This would be a perfect card for playing at that resolution. Anything more would really be over kill. Otherwise, that'll be a decent setup that will play all the latest games on highest of settings.
cheers, how much fps do u think i wud get about then?
cuz atm i have a 7900gtx which is okay but doesnt play the most demanding games that well. im only going to run crysis on high with no aa cuz im not fussed with that tbh.
If you're going to be using vista, make sure you get the 64bit version and get another 2gb of RAM (to make 4GB total). DDR2 is very inexpensive now days, don't be cheap :). I'm using XP, which uses alot less resources so I can get by with only 2GB. Vista is a different story, if you're gaming on Vista i'd highly recommend atleast 4gb RAM (Especially when trying to play resource hogs like Crysis).
With that setup you should be around the 30-35 FPS range, especially at that resolution.
okay cheers, i am using windows xp. im thinking about getting the higher clocked version of this card and watercooling it too improve my performance. whats ur card clock speed? cuz im thinking of getting the 650mhz and clocking up to 700 with watercooling
Not worth the extra money to water cool it. I'm at 675/1100 and it does more than fine. You generally only get a 5 FPS increase and you put more stress on the card in the process so instead of spending money on a waterblock and all that jazz, just get a better card. ATI 4870's are pretty cheap now, the same price as the 4850 when I bought it a month after they come out.
fair enough, so u would recommend buying one of these cards for my current setup? il run all my games at 1280x1024, but crysis i will run at 1024x768 i think
I wouldn't base buying a graphics card off how it performs on Crysis to be honest. It's a horribly coded game. Having a 4850 myself, I can run all the latest games completely maxed out settings @ 1680x1050. In this video I was playing crysis at 1680x1050 as well. It's a phenomenal card that you really cant go wrong with any way you look at it. I'd say the 4850 has about another year of life-span to run games maxed out at 22" resolution, even longer if you're running at a lower resolution.
true, but crysis is the most demanding game at the moment. and if u computer can play crysis it can play anything. aslong as i can run this game on high settings at 1280x1024 and get about 45fps average that wud be great. i also play cod4&5 . i just done like lag in my games it annoys my thats why im asking so many questions about this card.
Yea but still, crysis is not the game to do your benchmarks on. COD4/5 I can run fully maxed at 4xAA 16xAF @ 1680x1050 and average around 75 FPS, high of around 80 and low around 40-50 in heavy firefights with smoke nades everywhere. It's a little lower in COD5 average is about 60-65 FPS with these settings.
that sounds wicked tbh, im currently running cod4 just on high settings with no aa and getting bout 80fps but at a smaller res, so if this card allows me to play all the latest games at a higher res maxed out that would be good.
I generally run it all settings on high (I'm on windows XP) and generally with 2 or 4x AA at 1680*1050. I normally get around 30-35FPS with these settings, while recording with fraps it drops to about 25 or so which is still in the playable range. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
