@Lolbeatmewithabook Disney was probably scared to put another show on there because of the negative reviews of this show! But I seriously think this show had great potential. The music especially!
Never seen that show before. LuminAria, a Christmas fireworks show which it ran in the Disney California Adventure park back in 2001 and it lasted until 2002. Sadly, Disney no longer run a LuminAria fireworks show, but some bits and pieces of music can be found in the castle lighting ceremony at Disneyland every Christmas. This show was pre-dated the "World of Color" nighttime water show at Disney California Adventure.
@DisneyFireworks During the show, they had low level fireworks and projection screens which can also be use for Walt Disney World's "Let the Dreams Begin" promotion for 2011 where they had guest photo projecting over Cinderella Castle and a special fireworks show together for the new celebration.
I for one really loved this show. It had a huge heart and the soundtrack was simply gorgeous (seems like whoever decided to use the score for the castle lighting ceremonies agrees with me). It could have been a huge success with some tweaking, but that would have been difficult to do, especially considering the "I refuse to admit anything from DCA is successful or enjoyable" mentality among fans at the time.
As much as I do enjoy World of Color, I can't help but feel it lacks the heart of Lumi
I like the lights at the end on the sun wheel and screamin, they should have kept that and used it in World of Color, or at least a better version like the lasers they use for the Troncore.
I Have the Soundtrack of This Show! This Song is Still Heard at Disneyland, Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris Winter Castle Show During the HolidaysWhich Plays in English, Japanese and French!
posted my last comment before the video was finished do they still have that effect a glitter on the coaster a Mickeys Fun Wheel or did they take all it down after renovation :) i like that effect :)
to all of you suggesting a holiday World of Color, I agree that would be awesome but I've got one word for you all: hypothermia, that's what it'll feel like if we have another cold snap and judging by this summer, I'd say this winter is going to be pretty brisk.
now that they have the world of color display they could add images onto the screens like nightmare before christmas, the christmas carol, and the polar express
wow i never knew about this show :( and i was a annual passholder its ok but cant wait for world of color supreme project i think 20 k projectors and massive asome water lights and fireworks display cant wait :)
The body of water is not called Mediterranean harbor! It's called Paradise Bay! And it wasn's far away from the viewing area. Sorry if im being rude or anything Horizon5556, just defending my DCA. I live close by and I go there twice a week so thats why im defensive. I love going there and I can't wait for the expansion and World of Color next year. I think they'll use the World of Color projection to create a new christmas show and I hope they keep the tree as well for the new show @ christmas.
This was a great show with amazing music. Poorly planned as far as fireworks, but the show and its message work really well.
The good news is, Steven Davison (creator of WoC and Luminaria) has said he is interesting in developing Luminaria 2.0 using the WoC technology. Let's hope+pray that this comes true - it would make an awesome holiday version of WoC.
for the amount of little space they had to work with in the lagoon, i thought it was good show. it wasnt like, disneyland big explosion good, but it was a petite nice small one.
you have to remember they cant have big butt fireworks exploding right over the people.
not exactly what i meant . i meant you cant have those big super explosives ball fireworks you see at disneyland that shoot up hundreds of feet in the air, thats just too dangerous and could fall on guests . illuminations can do that easily because their body of water as like several sizes larger than the lagoon at paradise pier .
correct me if i'm wrong, but i've heard that the show is performed in the middle of Mediterranean harbor, and it is actually pretty far away from the viewing areas around? I'm not sure. But I do hope we get a Luminaria 2.0 with the world of color platforms... and the christmas tree :)
umm this show sucked, Disney has money now, that's why they're redoing practically the whole park, and just you wait till they premiere the new lagoon show.
Hahaha I think you got the point across to me a while ago.
Considering the show they released not to long ago (Which I dislike very much) It proves that they have money. Just the fact that they re-did a while pyrotechnic show... Proves that...
That wasn't all that bad... I kinda liked it. It could be 100 times better, but you can't really compare 2001 fireworks to the new World of Color, two totally different concepts. Man, this park could be so great.... but it was poorly managed and was murdered by budget cuts :(
Disney poorly managed? no it was the CEO Eger that was doing it on the cheap. Why do you think the share holders fired him. But I am waiting for the new DCA to be complete it will be alsmome.
People who are calling this show lame: Keep in mind this was done almost 10 years ago. Pyros and show technology have come a long way! Even Fantasmic's renovations render the old version a little clunky once you see the new pyros. And Fantasmic will be HARD to beat... the fact that it is so innovative, amazing score, and uses the area and boats so well is what I love about it.... World of color will be good, but I can't see it being as innovative as Fantasmic. Maybe they will prove me wrong!
I differ from your comment about. I don't think LuminAria was a bad show, yes poorly planned, but the message behind it is very touching. Oh, World of Color will have smoke, they're going to be using fire effects. and yes, it will be AMAZING! :]
I see Luminiaria as a cheap "nighttime spectacular" which is basically made up of music, fireworks, and...that's it. With World of Color, you get projections on mist, great characters, great effects, great fountains, and most likely a great storyline. I think it's a little too early to make predictions, but I say that World of Color will beat Fantasmic. Renovations are happening fast. World of Color will amaze us before we know it.
Do You no they use the music from the show for the Castle lighting Shows at Disneyland for the Holidays but this show might come back because the fireworks are from the old one Disneyland used now they have new tech and with the bellagio fountains going in well have to wait and see

The new show at DCA will be called Wonderful World of Color permiering March 2009 it will have "dancing fountains" similar to the Bellagio's but of course smaller in scale but just as klpeekl2000 said they will be more advanced and will be nothing related to Luminaria the show is like a journey through stories of the many disney charaters, if you go to DCA right now you will see that the Lagoon or lake is empty and they are already beginning work for the upcoming show it will be AWESOME
No No No not the new show thats coming Luminaira might come back for the holidays it just a rumor but the Lumiaira music for Shie is the Lighting music for the Castle
This Holiday season I dont see that happening on the count of the lake being empty and the holiday season has already started, but if your talking 2009 then possibly, It would make sense for them to do that since they will have a firework show already, lets hope!!

no the world of color doesn't premier on march 2009 they wont be done with the lagoon till september then they will run test till spring of 2010 when they will first be premiering the show
Luminaria was a holiday spin-off of illuminations and was shown at DCA for only one season due to growing complaints about clouds of smoke from fireworks being blown into audience faces. In my opinion the smoke was the only bug, and it was a pretty good show. The musical score was the best. I think they should create a holiday spin-off like this for Walt Disney's World of color lagoon show that debues next year, and they should use this musical score as the base for the show

hmm it looks like they tried to imitate Illuminations...but they didn't account how small the lagoon is or the smoke control...it was a good try because the music is awesome...but like Light Magic I bet it looked better on paper than what happened
I do agree but you have to remember that this came before illuminations. For all we know, Illuminations could have been based on Luminaria and might have been an improved version.
are you sure? I thought Luminaria debuted in Winter 2001 and Illuminations: Reflections on Earth debuted in 1999, as part of the millenium celebration
It might have debuted at the end of 99 but still, by then Luminaria had to have been finished in the development process so I doubt it was a copy of illuminations.
I highly doubt Illuminations was a copy of Lumanaria. Illumniations has been around every since 1996; it debuted as a part of WDW's 25th Anniversary. Besides, both shows have COMPLETELY different concepts.
why since actroid arriver i want to make disneyland resort more park and hotel beacuse i want bigger and if you look goolge earth still landlock for 3rd park by many house and buliding there will be kick out area
Even if you disregard the massive amount of smoke this show generates, it's still a pretty bad show in my opinion. Everything just seemed poorly paced and the fireworks weren't as exciting as Believe, which was wowing audiences across the esplanade during the time.
Sure the cards were a cool thing for parents to see their kid's work in a Disney show, but it took up too much of the show and the rest of us want to see professional entertainment offerings, not your kid's drawings.
Also, Golden Dreams will be replace by "The Little Mermaid: Under The Sea Adventure" a ride similar to Epcot's "The Seas With Nemo and Friends). The make over is already well under way with the building of the "Toy Story Mania" interactive dark ride and is said to be complete in 2009.
yes it will be similar to main street, but a lot shorter of course and themed to Los Angeles during the 1920's complete with a red trolly car. The end, replacing the sun fountain will be a model of Carthay Circle Theater wich will house a modern version of The Walt Disney Story
toy story mania is opening summer 2008 not 2009 i cant wait to go for ride! and they said dca a new name if they drop plan a rename dca will same name a long time long live disneyland !!!!
Also, Car's Land will be added to the park featuring a Test Track (Epcot) type dark ride/racer called "Radiator Spring Racers" (one of the most expensive attraction ever built at a price of over $200 million) The Golden State area will see the addition of several new restaurants and one more possible attraction.
Disney is still fighting for the land. Anaheim residents will vote in 2008 whether to allow the condos to be built or to use it for turist reasons, not necesarily by the Walt Disney Co. The "Disney's World of Color" will premier in December 2008 as part of a $1.5 billion make over of DCA that the Company is more focused on. The Make over inclued the comple remaking of Sunshine Plaza, and retheming of Paradise Pier.
I Think There Making a new show called "Wonderful World of Color" I saw that they used the effects from this show and brought them on the lagoon, but im not so sure yet.!
Oops... "Wonderful World of Color"'s premiere might be a mistake. I'll have to check on that again, but it'll be in the style of the water show at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
I read that WET Designs is building the feature. Besides designing numerous water features for Disney, WET is also responsible for the Mirage volcano and the Fountains at Bellagio. The Bellagio's feature does seem to be the most similar to Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color; both have 1,200 lit water jets. The main difference is that the Bellagio's system is spread across 8 acres. Disney's will be in a bay roughly 4 acres large. This makes the new show twice as impressive, by my reasoning.
The graphics on the screens near the beginning are from ones that kids drew in the Christmas Card center (located in the San Francisco buildings) from that very day. They would change everyday with the new batch of cards drawn each day.
I do miss doing Guest Control for this show. While flawed (with the smoke), I thik it did bring out the spirit of the holiday season.
Watch for the "Wonderful World of Color" show to premiere at DCA in 2008.
Luminaria was only performed for one season, due to high levels of smoke from the pyro used. Unfortunately, the wind would blow it in the direction of Grizzly River Run and the Grand Californian... and would stay there. There were times where I would be coming down the mountain after we clear out Grizzly and I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face.
Needless to say, Grand Californian Guests did NOT like it.
One of the rarest videos of a California Adventure show/attraction. I never even got to see this. It is what I call a remnant of the original WESTCOT plans.
Disney's firework shows are always so splendidly choreographed. I shivered remembering past shows I've seen with my family. Thanks for sharing the magic.
Dude, chill. You're the one that have no idea what you're talking about. The new show will be called Disney's World of Color and it will probably premier by the end of 2008.
The third park has been shelved as far as I know. The recient plans for a condo complex by the city of Anaheim has been place in the spot where the third park is supposed to go.
Not quite. Disney owns that property, so the city would not build there. The city of Anaheim wanted to build condos over a current mobile home park that would have posed other difficulties. Anyway, that has all but fell apart. The third park will be delayed probably until Disney finishes its huge makeover of DCA.
dued you need to go hong kong disneyland and you went ALL DISNEY PARK who you are a big disney fan or you work at disney? sorry mam i just belive you went all disneyland.
thanks for the vid, but too bad you can't see the "candles" floating in paradise bay from the angle you've shot the show. i think i saw one of my cards in the video sequence!
they got the fountains and the lights if they really wanted to they could really bring back this show in a whole new way

I liked the show, but I do agree about the smoke.
msexybeastp 4 years ago
why was this show cancelled anyways?
surfurgy92 4 years ago
Too much smoke is the generally accepted reason for it closing. I would also point at lack of popularity.
It's a holiday show, so it isn't really "canceled". It had its run and when the holidays rolled around again, it simply wasn't renewed.
I did enjoy the main title "Shine" and I'm happy they included it in Disneyland's holiday festivities this year. It's a nice song.

oh. i see.
thanks for the info(:

why since actroid arriver i want to make disneyland resort more park and hotel beacuse i want bigger and if you look goolge earth still landlock for 3rd park by many house and buliding there will be kick out area
muffles12 4 years ago
Even if you disregard the massive amount of smoke this show generates, it's still a pretty bad show in my opinion. Everything just seemed poorly paced and the fireworks weren't as exciting as Believe, which was wowing audiences across the esplanade during the time.
Sure the cards were a cool thing for parents to see their kid's work in a Disney show, but it took up too much of the show and the rest of us want to see professional entertainment offerings, not your kid's drawings.
Spokker 4 years ago
yeah, damn this show is horrible, even the nearly 2 decade old Sorcery in the Sky is more impressive
stitchcastle 4 years ago
Also, Golden Dreams will be replace by "The Little Mermaid: Under The Sea Adventure" a ride similar to Epcot's "The Seas With Nemo and Friends). The make over is already well under way with the building of the "Toy Story Mania" interactive dark ride and is said to be complete in 2009.
garce114 4 years ago
They also will be re-themeing the entrence right? somewhat looking like a walk down hollywood or something with a theatre at the end?
surfurgy92 4 years ago
yes it will be similar to main street, but a lot shorter of course and themed to Los Angeles during the 1920's complete with a red trolly car. The end, replacing the sun fountain will be a model of Carthay Circle Theater wich will house a modern version of The Walt Disney Story
garce114 4 years ago
toy story mania is opening summer 2008 not 2009 i cant wait to go for ride! and they said dca a new name if they drop plan a rename dca will same name a long time long live disneyland !!!!
muffles12 4 years ago
Also, Car's Land will be added to the park featuring a Test Track (Epcot) type dark ride/racer called "Radiator Spring Racers" (one of the most expensive attraction ever built at a price of over $200 million) The Golden State area will see the addition of several new restaurants and one more possible attraction.
garce114 4 years ago
Disney is still fighting for the land. Anaheim residents will vote in 2008 whether to allow the condos to be built or to use it for turist reasons, not necesarily by the Walt Disney Co. The "Disney's World of Color" will premier in December 2008 as part of a $1.5 billion make over of DCA that the Company is more focused on. The Make over inclued the comple remaking of Sunshine Plaza, and retheming of Paradise Pier.

I feel like I'm the only one who LOVED Luminaria. :D

I Think There Making a new show called "Wonderful World of Color" I saw that they used the effects from this show and brought them on the lagoon, but im not so sure yet.!
surfurgy92 4 years ago 3
The show is just going to be called "World of Color" not Wonderful. It pays tribute to all Disney Animation.
klpeekl2000 4 years ago
oooh haha. thanks for getting the right name. haha i really cant wait for it!!! :D it looks incredible by the artwork.
surfurgy92 4 years ago
Oops... "Wonderful World of Color"'s premiere might be a mistake. I'll have to check on that again, but it'll be in the style of the water show at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
BurntToast256 4 years ago

BurntToast256 4 years ago
Luminaria was only performed for one season, due to high levels of smoke from the pyro used. Unfortunately, the wind would blow it in the direction of Grizzly River Run and the Grand Californian... and would stay there. There were times where I would be coming down the mountain after we clear out Grizzly and I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face.
Needless to say, Grand Californian Guests did NOT like it.
BurntToast256 4 years ago
Wow! This is definitely on my list for when I next visit CA.
007deadbeat 4 years ago
I don't see why this is boring. It's completely brought my into the spirit of the season.

I agree with you!

One of the rarest videos of a California Adventure show/attraction. I never even got to see this. It is what I call a remnant of the original WESTCOT plans.
coolmccool5 4 years ago
Oh yes and you did a superb job with the video. Mine never come out this well. I tend to zoom too much and it makes people ill when they watch it ;o)

Disney's firework shows are always so splendidly choreographed. I shivered remembering past shows I've seen with my family. Thanks for sharing the magic.

klpeekl2000 5 years ago
Dude, chill. You're the one that have no idea what you're talking about. The new show will be called Disney's World of Color and it will probably premier by the end of 2008.

Hopefully.... I can see them working on it at DCA. Keeps finger crossed for special screenings!

muffles12 5 years ago
I have not heard anything about this since 2001. After DCA failed to bring in the crowds they put the thrid gate on indeffinate hold.
ParkHopper 5 years ago
The third park has been shelved as far as I know. The recient plans for a condo complex by the city of Anaheim has been place in the spot where the third park is supposed to go.
coolmccool5 4 years ago
Not quite. Disney owns that property, so the city would not build there. The city of Anaheim wanted to build condos over a current mobile home park that would have posed other difficulties. Anyway, that has all but fell apart. The third park will be delayed probably until Disney finishes its huge makeover of DCA.
