  • so i downloaded a app and it disapeared and it says i still have it instaled will this make it work again

  • @MyAndrewr I need more instructions. What this does is it backs up an image of your iOS device (iPhone, iPad, etc...). You mention the app is installed. If it is installed, it should be on your device. Is there another issue? Like it not working when you try to run it?

    Need more clarification.

  • When i right click my device in itunes the option to back up is not there. Can someone please help me out? I really need to back up my iphone. And yes, i have the latest itunes.

  • @StraatMeneeer make sure your iOS device is not trying to sync when you right-click it. If it is (the status bar will show it syncing), you won't have the option to back it up until you stop the sync.

  • I plugged my iPod back into the iTunes today.. and it erased all I had.. bomer.. I am restoring in a older version of my iPod.. is there a way to restore from the iPod I just had now I did not back it up.. is there a way to back up.. even thogh i didnt?

  • @computertechiceer if you didn't back it up, it will be hard to restore it. You had to back it up first.

  • idk how to do.

  • @ryansangha123 Did you watch the video? It explains how to backup your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

  • can we backup ipad file to an external drive? 'cause my C:drive is full..please help, thanks before.

  • @dhanurdara you first need to create the backup file on your local machine. To restore, the file would need to be on your machine..not an ext drive. I would try and free up space for the backup.

  • @dhanurdara basically, it's more of a pain each time you want to restore your device. Personally, I would move files off my machine and onto an ext drive. Saves you from a headache later on.

  • @ckarasiewicz I'm following your advice, I free up lot of space and uninstall some of my files, it works now, thanks a lot bro, really helpful.

  • @dhanurdara anytime. Feel free to share this video with anyone else you know who wants to learn about backing up their iOS device.

  • @ckarasiewicz So question, i want to restore my iPod from a jailbreak. If i back it up first, then restore it with my old backup will i get all that old jailbreak data again? If so, is there a way i can just back up just my songs?

  • @whiteshadow666777 you would first need to back it up prior to doing any jailbreaking (I don't jailbreak so not familiar with the process). What this does is it creates an entire image - but you don't have the ability to select just to backup your music.

The best way to do that would be to backup the music in your iTunes folder. This way your music is backed up. Then do a backup of the device.

  • Thanks! Very useful! I had no idea until I watched this video.

  • @hsk661199 so glad! Thanks for watching and feel free to click the subscriber button to be notified when new videos are posted.

  • @ckarasiewicz Thank you

  • OH no, i updated my cousin IPhone to IOS 5 i only pressed sync with out doing anything else i forgot from where i back so i just pressed sync and there was something written before i update it L ( contacts, calendar...) i though they mean nothing well be deleted from the flowing...

then after the update all of his contacts ( about 80 contact ) WAS DELETED, HELP how can i get them BACK ?

  • @Fireaspider if you didn't back it up before you synced it, it's going to be tough to get the information back. Sounds like you plugged the iPod was synced with one computer and you plugged it into another one - which prompted the box to erase the information on the iPod.

  • I tried to update all my stuff from this and my ipod restarted GOD!!!! WHAT THE HELL DO I DO!!!! HOW DO I GET IT BACK!!!! SOmeone please stop!!

  • @nugginGamingFork01 what do you mean? you tried t update what exactly? more details...

  • @intheMixup @nuggingGamingFork01 definitely need more details. You plugged the iPod in, started the backup and then what?

  • Thank you I failed at jail breaking lol I needed this!

  • @BeyondClaw you're welcome - thanks for watching and feel free to subscribe to be notified when new videos are posted.

  • It's so obvious but you never think about that option. Thanks for this man. Liked.

  • @HaligonianType1 so glad! Obvious and helpful feature, yes. Pretty hidden though.

  • thanks sooo much this helped soooo much

  • @themastersukhi so glad! Thanks for watching and remember to click the share button to tell your friends about it.

  • how do u delete the older backup's?

  • @NguyenEmpir3 each time you create a new backup, it overwrites the oldest one.

  • Hi I have an iphone4 ios 4.0.1, I want to upgrade to 5.0.1 can I backup my applications? Like the "smurf"? thanks.

  • @cutieserenity31 yes. It is taking a snapshot of your iPhone at the current moment. So if you have an app on there and say 3 email accounts, when you restore, it will put them back on your phone.

  • thanx

  • does this also backup all the data associated with each app?

  • @EmBongHD it takes a snapshot of your phone at the moment - apps, emails, etc...even where they're located. It should back-up the data in the app, seeing how the app is not being removed - it's just taking a snapshot of a point in time.

  • i backed my ipod 4g up but when it's done it the back up screen is still there what do i do

  • @ninja890p once the back-up has completed, you can unplug your iPod.

  • thanks guy i love this video your amazing!!!!

  • @Badersphere That would be a good idea.

  • @Badersphere thats what im doing:) haha

  • idk if youd be able to help me, but itunes is saying my ipod cant be synched because there is not enough memory and i checked and there is a lot of memory left. any ideas on how i can fix this problem. and all the music and videos on my ipod is gone, but it shows its all there in itunes.

  • When you talk about backup creating a "factory image", does this image include songs, apps, and videos? Because when I backed up mine and restored from backup, all the apps and media were missing, although my contacts and text messages were still there.

  • @james121515 I did not mean "factory image", but "image of the iphone in its current state"

  • @james121515 it should backup everything that is on your phone at the time. It creates an image of your phone in its current state. Apps and media should be put right back where they were at. Contacts and text messages too.

  • I haven't backed up my iPhone in about a year and a half. That's why I'm watching your video, lol. Upgrading from 4.0 jailbreak to 5.0.1 jailbreak.

  • @GreenBand1080 awesome - 5.0 is a great upgrade.

  • will this back up text messages?

  • @kihgex they should. It creates an image of your iPhone in its current state.

  • hay ima new user to the apple ipod touch 4g an i wanted to put my ipod in dfu mode to restore my battery problems because i had jail broken it an i had restored it once an no matte how long i charge my ipod the battrey drains with in 3 hours of use pls help me

  • where does it backup to? so i can backup the backup onto my portable hard drive?

  • @mcintojo look under Library/Applications Support/MobileSync/Backup

  • So, as you might know, finding a jailbreak for Iphone 3g 4.2.1 is hard, but i found one, and when i back it up just incase it wont work, it stays at the end for a long long time, idk if it will complete soon or not, please help?

  • @EscapeFromAfterlife the backup can sometimes take a little while. It depends on how much you have to back up.

  • press 1. socks<3

  • is this gonna backup the iOS too or just the data inside the iPad ?

  • @MrFondrake it backs up your entire device - location of apps, music, os, etc... it is essentially creating a copy of the device.

  • @ckarasiewicz So, if I upgrade my device iOS, will it just back to the iOS I backed up ? P.S : I can't find the backup thing on my 10.5 itunes.. is it because I haven't registered my iPad2 yet ? Thanks for the help

  • @MrFondrake it should make an image of your device at whatever version software you are running. If you are running say iOS 4.3 and back it up and then try to restore, it will take you back to 4.3.

If you device is trying to sync with iTunes, the backup option will not be there. You need to stop the sync first and then do the backup. You stop it by clicking the x in the window at the top (middle of the iTunes window).

  • So if I back up my iPod touch & then restore it, I will still have all my music/photos/apps/etc afterwards? Thank you in advance.

  • @Jaqueline612 yes - it creates an image of the device and everything on it. This way when you get a new device or need to restore one you can do it right from the backup.

  • my ipod is jail broken and i would like to do an ios update. will this also work on jail broken ipods?

  • @CrumpyGrind I have not backed up a jail-broken iPod; however it should back it up -- minus the apps. Those are a little different since iTunes doesn't necessarily know what to do with them.

  • thx

  • @MegaCoolguy1223 you're very welcome!

  • Hey i was wondering if anyone knows, i backed up my ipod but i have a bunch of free music on it that i got from like limewire or some program if i update it to the 5.0.1. and then restore from backup will those songs be there? or do they have to be in your itunes library?

  • @Cflore001 yes, they should still be there. When you back it up, it makes an image of everything that is on your iPod at the time.

  • you have just saved my life and my ipod!!ive been trying to do this for months since my ipod system was ios 4.3.1 - LOL

  • @cadisobemia so glad! Feel free to also become a subscriber.

  • well spoken, no annoying laud music in the background and straight to the point

    great video!

thank you so much this was very helpful

  • @NOOBEPICASSO thank you - glad you found the video helpful in backing up your iOS device.

  • so helpfull :)

  • finally a very helpfull video

  • @NJpanda29 so glad! Thanks for watching.

  • i cant select back up please help!

  • @AlphaKid126 what device are you trying to backup? When you plug in the device, let it first show-up in the left column of iTunes. Then try right-clicking.

Also make sure that your device is not trying to sync. Otherwise you won't have the option to backup until you stop the sync.

  • I was really stressing over backing up my phone.... Thanks for the vid mann!

  • @CallMeChrisss Thanks for watching - so glad the video helped you out. Feel free to subscribe to my channel.

  • hey can you help me ?

i got a new imac and i want to sync. my ipad 2 to my imac but i already sync. it into my macbook? and when i plug it in my imac, then on my itunes on device there's nothing that's show up ? :)

  • @FrikkySmile you can only sync the device to one computer. the best thing to do is to consolidate your music to the new computer. Go to iTunes, click iTunes > Preferences > Advanced and look at where your music is stored. Then copy over to your new Mac.

  • @ckarasiewicz where do you find the backup?

  • @MrRoshi4 it isn't the kind of backup you're thinking. It creates a file that only iTunes can read. Whatever is on your iOS device at the time of backup is what gets backed up. It is essentially crating an image of iPhone, iPad, etc... and storing it. This way when you get a new device, you can simply restore from backup and everything you had on your device when you backed it up gets copied to the new one.

  • @MrRoshi4 wat if ur ipod froze nd u need 2 restore it... does the back up still works aftr?

  • could you back it up with cydia? is it recommended?

  • @Evildn Not sure - the method I use is strictly in iTunes. If you plan to jailbreak, I would create a backup of my non-jailbroken device first.

  • ok, so one question, i need to know where i can find the contents of my back up, cause my backup only took mabey 2 seconds (literally) to finish, and i don't think it backed up my almost 500 songs in 2 seconds..... so if you could tell me where i can find the backup folder/file/ect. then that would help me see if im backing up all my files that i want...

  • @frugooscape0taz it doesn't create a backup like what you're thinking. The best thing I can recommend is to try the backup again - it will create a second backup (basically an image of your device at the time you backed it up). Then whenever you get a new device. Think of going from an iPhone 3G to an iPhone 4S - you can do the restore from backup feature and how you had your iPhone 3G setup along with whatever was on it - would get copied to your iPhone 4S. No resync or moving things around.

  • Does doing this back up the music, photos and videos as well?

  • @swaglikekhims it backs up your phone in its current state. So anything that is on it should get restored when you restore from backup.

  • Thanks so much my friend told me that if I update my iPod everything will get deleted but now I know how to backup my stuff thanks again :)

  • @SadPanda121 so glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching and remember to become a subscriber!

  • hay thanks cuz im gonna jailbreak my iPhone :D

  • @PuqTheBest so glad! Feel free to share this video with others looking to do the same. Thanks for watching.

  • What happens when you restore your iPhone and lose all your notes from the last time I backed up my iPhone?

How do I get all my notes back? because I lost a lot of important things on there... Dx

  • @SoniKZooM when you create a backup, it saves your phone/iPad in its current state. f you add notes and then don't make a backup and lose your phone, you wouldn't be able to get your notes back.

For something like that, you should use iCloud and turn it on to backup notes to iCloud - meaning when you make a note on your phone and save it, it uploads to the cloud and you can get it on any device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch). I have a separate video on that. Will send you the link.

  • lol its alright now i found out that i didnt need to backup all i needed to do is transfer my apps to itunes. anyway im using icloud now with ios5.0.1 official (dont like jailbreaking so i prefer to wait for official release lol iv just gon on to a different subject now.

long story short when you have ios 5.0.1 just use i cloud

    P.S nice video ;)

  • you talk to much!

  • when i right click mine all it says it eject ?

  • @joseph252100 hmm...it should work. Is your device trying to sync or do something when you right-click? If so, you need to stop the sync and then right-click.

  • Great for me, you teach me one more thing I dont know from apple, but the bad case from me, I want to move/copy my picture from my iPod Touch to my pen drive...

  • /watch?v=Fsto2f5QFqg

  • amazing how simple that was!!!...ive been trying to figure it out since yesterday!

but 'when in doubt, just youtube it'

    lool

    THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!

    bless

  • I LOVE YOU IT FUCKING WORKS !!! I GOT IOS5 ON MY IPOD NOW !!!

  • @KosovonBeats101 great success!

  • Hi. I downloaded the latest iTunes and was asked if i want to update my iPhone to ver. 5.0 so i clicked yes. But it says "An error occured whiie backing up this iPhone (-50)." It also says "Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPhone" so i decided to cancel my update.

When i right click on device (iPhone) as its showed in this video, there is no option for "back up" :(

Do u have any idea? What should i do to update my iPhone w/o any errors.

  • @SalliKojima where do you stand with this? Were you able to resolve your issue? If not, let me know. Glad to help.

  • if i done a jailbreak today, would i beable to use a backup tomorrow that i made 2 days ago? and if so, would it un-jailbreak my iTouch 3g?

  • @t3hlinuxp3nguin I don't jailbreak, but it should restore the phone to the state it was in when you created the backup.

  • "Itunes cannot backup Iphone because an unknown error occured."

There's no error code included in that, so I don't know how to go about fixing this! Any ideas? I have very important notes in my Iphone and I really cannot afford to set up my Iphone as a new phone and lose all of that! :(

  • @juleisha123 what version of iTunes are you running? It seems this is a server issue.

  • @ckarasiewicz The latest one. Version 10.5. Any ideas?

  • @juleisha123 how are you syncing your iOS device? Wireless iTunes or plugged in?

  • @ckarasiewicz I plug it in. And when I click backup, it says what I had stated before. I've done this so many times yesterday and today.

  • @juleisha123 following back up with this - were you able to back your iOS device up or are there still issues?

  • @ckarasiewicz Well, I'm still unable to back up my phone. I've set up my Iphone as a new phone (had to or else i'd be phone-less!) & lost all my contacts & notes. But besides that, I don't seem to have any trouble syncing. It's just the back up part that I'm still having trouble with. Thanks for your help though. It's not that big of an issue anymore. As long as I'm able to sync, I'm happy. Because frankly, I'm too tired to care about all this confusing Iphone business already! Lol!

  • @Anthonyr730 seems like it is an iTunes server issue. With the launch of iPhone 4S, I suspect the servers are being taxed. I was able to backup a number of devices and had a friend backup theirs just fine. Keep trying and keep me posted!

  • @Anthonyr730 try restarting your computer and then try it again. I believe that should help resolve the issue.

  • @Anthonyr730 do you have enough space on your hard drive? What version of iTunes are you running?

  • does it back up music?

  • does it save your music

  • @YuGiOhdudes347 this tool creates a backup image of your iPod, iPhone, iPad in whatever state (meaning what is on it) at the time you back it up. Everything that was on it and the place it was at (like apps in folders) gets put back when you restore from backup.

  • thanks mate very helpful :)

  • one thing , where would the back up be stored on my pc ? any ideas !

    thanks

  • @ajhghuj look here: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

  • dude you are a lifesaver , this vid makes perfect sense unlike the other 3 i watched prior to this . i have a iphone 3gs & am upgrading to a 4 . obviously i didn't want to lose all my contacts & apps etc .. so when i receive my iphone 4 it will be a mirror of my 3gs once i sync from backup , i dont usually comment on vids but just wanted to let you know , great vid & thanks !!

  • @ajhghuj so glad this helped you out! Feel free to post any questions you have on my official Facebook Page (link in the description above). Also don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel to be notified when new videos are posted. Thanks again for watching!

  • thank goodness you actually know what ur talking about un-like everyone else's videos

  • @pen15701 so glad you found it helpful. A great (somewhat hidden) feature within iTunes.

  • okies thanks

  • like ex...i am using sumone else comp to put songs into mah iphone n i also wanna use mah labtop to get music n put into mah iphone but i can t kuz it says it willl erase n sync mah music frm mah iphone...so i wanna know if yu knoe how to sync iphone to many comp using itunes not losing any music or anything in da iphone???

  • @singlejen209 your iPod needs to be set to "manually manage music." In iTunes, click on your device in the left side. Look under Options > Manually manage music and video...

If you don't have this checked, if you synced an iPod with one computer and then plugged it into a second computer, it would erase what you had on it and replace it with the music on the second computer. You may want to do a test run to make sure you have everything setup properly first.

  • @ckarasiewicz i need heeeelp! for some reason when i first got my ipod touch i used MY computer (laptop) to get it set up/started. i restored it for some reason and didnt press *back up* and now whatever i do it wont let me cuz it says "your back up has been currupted" or something! so now i cant put any songs on! can you help i will subscribe to your channel and spread on! i JUST need help! PLEASE! i just got it last month and didnt get warrenty so best buy wont help! HEEEEELPPPPPPP!

  • do yu knoe how to sync iphone to many comp wit itunes n witout losing anything frm ur iphone..???

  • wats does dis back up thing do???

can yu put new songs into it using back up too???

  • @singlejen209 the backup feature allows you to "create an image" of your existing device. For example, say I lost my iPhone and had to get a new one. I would have to go through the process of re-syncing items onto the new iPhone and moving them back into place.

If I created a backup image of my existing phone before I lost it and then happened to lose it, all I would need to do is get a new iPhone and then restore it from the backup I created in iTunes. A copy of what my phone was like.

  • ckarasiewicz howe come on my iphone when i try to put music on it it says it will erase and sync? like it will remove all my crap on it but do something to it? it also says my iphone is on 2 itunes library..... please reply!

  • @pkonnoobs you are getting that message because you can only sync your phone with one computer. If you sync it with your home laptop and then try to sync to the work computer, it is wanting to sync only the music on your work laptop - make sense?

If you have songs on one computer and other songs on a second one, your best bet is to copy the music to one hard drive on one computer and then sync.

  • @ckarasiewicz But I only use one computer......

  • @pkonnoobs were you able to resolve your issue?

  • @ckarasiewicz Yeah. I replaced my useless iPhone 3G with a iPod touch 4G running 5.0.1.

  • ckarasiewicz, does it save your games level and progress?

  • @Titanotron that part, I'm not sure about. I don't play too many online games. It should save your current state of your iOS device - folder locations, apps, etc... so that you can easily restore to another device, so I would think so.

  • Okay, so I did exactly what you say. I have a question, I can't get my music back on my ipod touch, what do I do now ?

  • @Winter96131 when you right-click and select restore, be sure to choose the right back-up that it made. It should put your iPod Touch back to the state it was in at the time of the backup.

  • i will never play on my i ppod touch :(

  • Will this work right if I downgrade from ios 5 to 4.3.3, PLEASE RESPOND FAST

  • @owlman113 it's a back-up tool. You should be able to back-up your phone in its current state and then restore it at a later time. It installs whatever you had on your phone at the time of the back-up.

  • Great explanation. Thank you

  • @DraftHorse28 so glad you found it helpful! It is a great feature.

  • thanks this helped alot!

  • @TLuds15 you're very welcome! It's not very well known to most users.

  • Hey If I jailbreak my iPad then if all my apps are gone if I connect to my computer and go to device and right click then back up will I get all my apps back?

  • @MrJazzy646 you need to first backup the device through iTunes. Then if something happens, you can restore it from iTunes. If you don't backup first, you won't be able to restore what you have lost.

  • it dossnt say backup when I right click

  • @manuelb863 You should be able to follow these steps to let you back-up the iPod. 1. Plug the device in. 2. Once iTunes recognizes it, right-click your iPod, iPad, iPhone, etc... 3. Select "back-up" to start the back-up process.

  • wen my ipod updates, will it delete everything on my ipod?

  • @Brokenfoodmaster When you create a back-up, it should not delete what is on your iPod. When you restore your iPod from a back-up, it basically erases what is on it and restores it with what you last backed up.

  • Thank you, this helped a lot. =]

  • @daholdendude you're very welcome! Feel free to subscribe to my channel to receive automatic updates when new videos are posted.

  • thx

  • Does it replace all my apps in there folders?

  • @jeremieleduc yes, it should place all of your apps exactly where they were at when you created the "backup"
