I would have preferred higher taxes for a subway system instead. Such a bad idea to have the train exposed to the elements and harsh MN winters. Even the stations are outdoors.
This is great. Once they finish the construction and people start to ride the thing, people like it, and all the people complaining that the idea was a waste of money vanish back into the woodwork they came out of. Look, with gasoline getting so expensive, we need this as an alternative to cars. We should not have to depend on oil and gasoline from the Middle East (countries that don't like our way of life) for national security reasons. And these can be run on solar or wind power.
Minneapolis and the Twin Cities once had a much more extensive street car system but the greedy people in the late '40s, including one guy who later went to jail for fraud sold the tracks and burned the street cars!!! Believe it or not, the surviving Minneapolis street cars can now be found in Mexico City!!!!
Absolutely wonderful LRT system, and I love the public's response to it.
I read where Cincinnati had a chance to expand their transit and blew it, My sorry hometown (birmingham, alabama) did the same thing in 98.
Amazing how stupid some people can get over a penny.
Anyway, congratulations, Minneapolis, it looks like a fun way to get around a very vibrant and exciting place to be. I hope to get to come up there and visit before I leave this earth and ride!

Thanks for link Jim. Minneapolis did it at the perfect time to start light rail service in the twin cities area.
Those cars look almost the same as those used in North New Jersey(Metro NYC area)used on the Bergen-Hoboken-Jersey City light rail line.

i agree, every american metro area should use this method as prime transportation...instead of using (money) it to fund wars or giving it to israel!

That is a beautiful train.
I'd expect Minneapolis to have a train network of several hundred miles in total length.
