Think I was ten at the time, and I had just gotten enough money saved up to buy a Super Nintendo. (Allowance, helping around the house, weird yet responsible kid I was) Parents where proud I had enough sense to actually save and work for what I wanted so one day they come home with a game. A game with a blue knight on the cover and say, "Here son, for your new Super Nintendo."

Before then, I had no idea what an RPG was and now, because of this game, it's my favorite genre.

I mean I wasn't born until 1994 but I had 2 older brothers and one of them was about 16 or 17 when I was born. When I was old enough he gave me his snes and a bounch of his games and this was the first one I played and had the most fun with. Sorry for the long message but I just had to let it out <3

@60GramsOfNothing No shame! I think I got this game in '93 or '94 when I played it, which would make me 9 or 10 at that time. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and still love to replay it every few years. It's not extremely complex, but it's a very, very fun game! The soundtrack is awesome, too.

This game rules, just beat it again for the 100th time on the Wii Virtual Console... awesome stuff. Most people hate this game because it was an adventure style Final Fantasy but it's 100 times better than that shit on the game boy they tried to pass off as Final Fantasy.

The soundtrack in this game is actually pretty high octane for a Final Fantasy game, I guess it's to hold your attention longer but it fucking works, this sound track is amazing. The only thing that sucks is the plot.

Back then I didn't know this was a FF game as in PAL regions it's called Mystic Quest: Legends.

FF mystic quest new was much cheaper than most carts i remember it being about 15-20 $ cheaper then a regular title. It was around 30-35 bucks where any other snes game was 45+.

@marmar3291 mystic quest is just too easy, and short, and boring. I think it might have also had password protection and not the internal battery so that accounts alot for the price.

My favorite ones are 4 (2 on snes) 5 (snes) 7 (psx) and 9 (psx)

Secret of Evermore was fun for a bit but it was too short and glitchy as all hell. Sometimes I wonder if they even beta tested that damn game. Another gripe I had with SoE was that alchemy was worthless because of the infinite ammo glitch for your bazoka: even if you leveled it up to the max it still barely did any damage against the final boss.

Actually, the Life and Heal spells had different effects when cast on your opponents.  Life was an Instant Death effect, and Heal afflicted a random status on the enemy.

This was my first RPG ever and the one that got me hooked on the Final Fantasy series. It's funny how the Level Forest gives better EXP than the first couple of areas after it, and you can pretty much max out in a matter of days just by staying there. I remember figuring out, around 4 years after first playing the game, that you could use Exit as an offensive spell, boy was that funny :D
