December 1 1979: Interviewed in London for Countdown (Australian TV) End of the Decade special.
Countdown's Molly Meldrum: "He insisted that the interview be conducted in London's Kew Gardens, which we only just managed, after telling the attendants that we were filming a special on beautiful English gardens! David posed as an expert on plants as we paid our penny to get in the gate."
Wowie!!!Thanx for taking the time to add the extra info on this little known facet of the Bowie past. Hmmm..... 1979 was a strange time, to think we nearly lost him to a career in gardening reality shows!
btw, great footage. more rare footage like this should be officially released. the Bowie dvd was good, but it never really satisfied me to see the music videos, i want to know about the artists and man more intimately, and interviews like these always shed a little light on that. also, the bowie dvd's would've been more satisfactory had there had been at least commentary by bowie on the videos.
this looks like it was taped directly off the TV as it aired, with an old handheld. That would explain the flashes of color, only when really strong would they come through?
Hi, sorry the end was clipped but he mentions that he likes the Talking Heads, oh!, and the interviewer was trying to get him to comment on Gary Numan but David declines to say much.
Total non sequitar (sp?), but my name is Starlet. (No Ziggie prefix, however) And thanks for posting. Bowie looks like such a normal guy here. So non rock legend/icon-ish.
I KNOW! WHAT OTHER BANDS?? WHAT OTHER BANDS? Who was Bowie listening to in the early 80s! Yeah, I can see him listening to Talking Heads, who are pretty damn amazing.
well, from an audio interview i have from him in 1980, he's very excited about Throbbing Gristle (!), mentions The Raincoats, Gang of Four, The Pop Group, Madness, The Specials, and the 60's groups 13th Floor Elevators, The Seeds and Jefferson Handkerchiefs
Hi Matt, this was on a video given to me by someone who had seen me on T.V being interviewed about David Bowie(which was also on the tape). Bowie fans are always so generous!
