So this is a response to all the people who kept telling me to play the game or wait for Rising:
I bought MGS4 relatively recently...and I loved it. Didnt really explain much on Raiden that I know of, but theres always Rising. HOWEVER, I think the plot of Rising has changed. From what I read, its not going to explain why he turned into a cyborg. I hope another game is made that does explain it.
It is alot like the JAK games jak was all cool and simple then fans wanted him to look really awsome so they 'JAKED' him up and I never liked that but then again RAIDEN looks really cool now
I liked Raiden in MGS2. Those saying he was gay or sissy are either insecure of themselves or need to grow up. I think Raiden in MGS4 is cool as well, but I feel like he was never supposed to be that way. Like Hideo was sick of the negative feedback on Raiden and changed him just to please the fans. They even gave him a larger body with broader shoulders. It just looks so awkward with his more feminine face. By the way, did they explain his new body in MGS4? I never played it.
@LotusDragon09 Not really in the MGS4 game, no... If you want the story on why he became a cyborg, you'll have to download the 'MGS Encyclopedia' of sorts, called the MGS4 Database (It's free on the PS store of your PS3).
But then again you can probably find a copy of the database online if you google for it.
@yuyuzja Its not so much that, but at the end of the game, I know the make him fully human again. I saw a video. Like, they give him a new body. He wakes up in a bed and Rose comes to greet him. Then I think his child too. During this scene, you will noticed that his shoulders and upper board is much more broad than in MGS2 and in MGS4 while he was a cyborg. Its really really weird to me and I dont know if they give an explanation to that or not.
@yuyuzja Actually they might of mentioned when Raiden brought up Dr. Madnar (IDK his name) who saved Raiden's life and then Otacon mentioned he worked underground with cybernetics.

Yes Raiden's inexperience shows in that game, and he acts awfully pansy at times, so people don't like him for that. Deal with it. @Dsurvivor21stCentury MOST people who didn't like Raiden just hated him for the simple fact that they were tricked into playing him. I guess it's kind of a legit complaint but most of the time people just resorted to calling him gay or about the way he looked. THAT'S immature and petty. i think if he were introduced into the game differently more people would have liked him. i personally like mgs2 raiden more than mgs4 and japanese gamers liked raiden since the prettyboy look is popular in asia.
@selphiexfairy You are right. MGS2 Raiden was really funny at times and towards the end when he got fed up of it all, you could only feel sorry for how he was being manipulated. I still prefer MGS4 Raiden cause it seems more realistic (a child soldier, orphaned, tortured, night terrors) MGS4 Raiden's personality is how any man would be if he was subject to this his whole life. His peppy behaviour in MGS2 doesn't show this. I don't blame them, because his memories were suppressed but you know...
@DarkX6 Woo! Yeah, the somersaults were weird, but he was still a pretty cool character. I dont think he was as whiny as people make him out to be. Like I said, people need to grow up. So what if he wasnt the epitome of masculinity. Thats what we have Snake for. A story will be very boring if all the characters are like the main character.
@LotusDragon09 Forget the gay and sissy comments but he did have to change. Because of the exp. w/ Snake, the situations in the battlefield he's never faced before. He's changed into a more wiser ninja. As for his body. Technology has advanced, so he needs a suit that matches. This just enhances his abilities that he already has, and any he gained while wearing the suit. I wont spoil it for you, but know that since BIG SHELL alot of sh*t happened to him.
@kale61 Well im completely fine with his personality changing since Big Shell, as it makes sense. Rising will fill the gap (Which I keep getting reminded of!!!!), so im looking forward to that. I didnt mind his personality in MGS2, which was my main point. I do agree that in order for his skills to improve he had to change. Which did happen. The change I was against was that his in body, and I dont mean the suit. Whats up with his torso after the suit is removed? Rising better explain.
@LotusDragon09 Yea it sucks that his personality had to change because he was just introduced to us and then totally flipped as a character in MGS4. At least give him one more game for us to feel a real connection for. Unless we see that "flip" in Rising. Have you played MGS4 yet? i hope so dude...
@kale61 I havent actually lol. Im trying not to watch any walkthroughs and keep my viewing of MGS4 media to a minimal. Its definitely on my wishlist though. I actually dont have a PS3 or 360 yet, unfortunately. Its possible I will eventually end up with both. Yeah if Rising is going to explain his transition to a cyborg, we *should* see his personality changing throughout and the turmoil that caused it. Im also hoping for a pre MGS2, post MGS1 game as well.

Youre gunna enjoi the f*ck out of the story mode and it has TONS and I mean TONS of replay value. So when you get your PS3 we need to play METAL GEAR ONLINE together! (the multiplayer for MGS4)
@kale61 Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the online part! That would be interesting to play. I have MGS3, but never played its online mode. I hear mixed reactions to it though. I have seen videos of MGS4's online mode and it looks pretty fun.
@LotusDragon09 Raiden obviously wasn't gay, but he was a bit of a sissy lol. They even made a joke about his feminine appearance IN the game. Remember when tries to rescue the president? The first thing the president does is cup Raiden's testicles, because he's unsure of whether he is male or female lol. It didn't make him an less of a character. I thought he was brilliant in fact. He felt like a real person, there was nothing exaggerated like there is with most other fictional characters.

@LotusDragon09 I didn't really hate Raiden or like him. But he was cool in the sense as he was just a regular guy. Most heros in a video game are hardcore killing machines and Raiden in MGS2 was just a regular guy. I liked that aspect and it was cool to see Snake from another characters view.
I remember playing mgs2 and saying "wtf who the hell is this Raiden dude? He's gay, where's snake??? :(" Then I played this game and said "wow.....nevermind, this guy is bad ass as fuck." When you hear him say "its my time to protect you" DAMN fucking awesome voice!

i was playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance with my bf last week and i was playing Spiderman, and i knew i recognized that voice as Quinton's..sure enough i wiki'd it and it was him..he voices Spiderman and Arcade in that game..also found out that there's a shit ton of MGS voice actors who voice characters in that game..Cam Clarke, John Cygan, Paul Eiding, Greg Eagles, Josh Keaton, Phil LaMarr, Kim Mai and Peter Renaday... wowzer! lol

well.. the appeal for raiden to the female gamers was a little off.. at least in my opinion lol.

personally, i liked raiden in MGS2, cuz i knew Snake would have to step down and the world would have to be saved by someone else. also, i liked the possibility that anyone could be snake when motivated.

i was playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance with my bf last week and i was playing Spiderman, and i knew i recognized that voice as Quinton's..sure enough i wiki'd it and it was him..he voices Spiderman and Arcade in that game..also found out that there's a shit ton of MGS voice actors who voice characters in that game..Cam Clarke, John Cygan, Paul Eiding, Greg Eagles, Josh Keaton, Phil LaMarr, Kim Mai and Peter Renaday... wowzer! lol
