epic album from the 80s, i had the 33rpm goin round for years back in the days, album has quality and was well produced - sounds like marcus miller had a job, but thats just me
Folks! This is way back in the days when Midnight Star was so bad in the 80s. This is for you to enjoy this saturday. With their music with title " Engine Number Nine { 9 }.
we still play this live in down south funk bands, i keep my bass hot for music just like this, man they were funky as hell. midnight star made there albums by going to the club and playing a single at at time, if the crowd liked it, they put it on the album, man that was a smart thing to do in the 80s'.
lol why is everyone complaining about how they miss this kind of music? youtube lets you listen to it whenever you want! and you can download whatever you want off the internet! i'm glad we're in the present, i can fit 1000s of my old school songs on my one ipod instead of on 86 tapes, which was a pain in the ass to do to begin with
@musicalsilence0813 no one is complaning bout the present today. Were just complaning bout the music in the present lol im with u on the ipods tho it makes it a hella lot easier to store music
Fanbloomingtastic!!! This is such a rarity now and hard to find ... I remember taping this song off the radio ... i wore the tape out listening to it!
wanna know something I'm 17 & i love this song all the new stuff thats coming out now,to me is just wack.I'm proud to say that I'm an ol' skooler now!
@tony805es13 Good for you!! Most of the time they are only sampling licks from the old skool anyway, but this is TRUE MUSIC. When they performed live, they sounded just like their records ... Didn't need all of the studio mixing, etc.
@tony805es13 Good for you! The new artists only sample licks from old skool songs anyway. This is REAL MUSIC, and when they performed live they sounded just like their records. I have a 13-year-old nephew who grew up listening to old skool so he can KNOW who the original artists and musicians are. We need to teach the younger generation about when music meant something instead of that crap and dirty lyrics out there today.
Funky and black music has a huge success in Algeria ! more than any other genre ! i'm algerian and proud to tell you that we grew up with Funky music (D-train/Mac band/Eric Gable/Black street /Karyn white/ B.face/Surface/Silk )and many others that we played in parties !
Bien dis! Souvenirs souvenirs!!
@DaGetFunk Yes that's true and i agree 100% ! i was born in 1975 ! but remember how my eldest brother taught me to listen good music ! my father was disco music fan (Donna summer ,Ottawan,Boney M,,,) my sister was a huge (Blondie) fan ! and i grew up with Funky bands and artists (Kano/Change "let's go together") check it out !
I thought that this was by Cameo or another group when I first heard it in the spring of 1987, but I was surprised that it was by Midnight Star. This is heavy on the funk and the bass guitarist sounds tight on this groove! The drumming is astounding and thundering on this song! Still another one of my favorites from this band!
wow i didnt know the extended version was on the greatest hits album.. nice.. i have it on vinyl and just uploaded it too.. marcus miller plays the bass here
i've been looking for this a long as well. YEAH BOY!!!! haven't heard it since the 80's. absoutely one of the top three songs they made. thanks victornewman06
Midnight Star has always been my favorite band since i could remember. I became a musician because of them! I love this song most of all, because of its constant groove!
I've been looking for this song forever! Last time I heard this song was around late 86 at "Celebrations" in West Palm Beach, being played by a band called In Color from VA. Good Times, Funcky song.

Didn't know that about Marcus Miller.
I do know these top musicians played their ass off in all kinds of productions in the 80's, when many of the music was still man made!
