  • It was the storm that changed our lives until 5/22/11 on 5:41 PM

  • i live in wardell and i remember hail the size of eggs slamming into my house. i heard that braggadocio had been hit but was unaware at the time that it hit Cville. my wife daughter and myself rushed to braggadocio and wanted to help with anything we could but they wouldnt let us near town

  • glad i moved out tht shyte befo it happin

  • One of the great tornado videos. You captured the essence of the approach of the tornado, some really terrific views as the tornado hit, and the aftermath.

  • I was only 15 miles away from C-ville when this happened God bless the ones who were closer

  • this night was just awful i was in Marmaduke Arkansas when it us it started out in eveingshade in Randalph County and went all the way to rural Pemiscot county Missouri east of caruthersville and stopped before the Mississippi River and then reformed in Dyer County Tennessee used to live at 11685 US HWY 49 Marmaduke but was disroyed all thats there is the tornado shelter if you go by there its on the left south bound side of road before the curve to head to Rector Piggott in Allegan Michigan now

  • i was in elementry when this happened and i remeber that when school started back high school had to use elementy as their school and everyone got a half od a day

  • i lived behind the high school in the yellow house and firefighters couldnt even get to us......2 houses were in the middle of both roads completely desrtoyed......we had no high scool and in most cases no homes ......took a while to get bak on our feet but things are going great now and most people have cellars now haha

  • makes me so sad to see the school like that :( My mom taught there for a long time (Ms. Lloyd the high school art teacher). I have such fond memories of hanging around the high school while waiting on her to grade papers. And Knox's drive in fed me most nights. So sad.

  • That was sad. I was at home in Hayti when that happened. My cousins high school was deystroyed. Couldn't even go visit afeterwards b/c of the damages. I'll never forget it. Its been 4 years since that happened.

  • It was on a sunday eveing i remember it

  • I live about a mile or not even that away from the school on Highland ave

  • i remember the bus shed had just been finished being built and then it got torn down by the tornado.

  • i can see why that would be scary. i know exactly which house you're talking about too.

  • i've gotta admit, still 3 years later, its still hard to think about this. the tornado might not have hit my house, but it got pretty close. i still can't believe that this happened though. i always heard about tornadoes on the weather channel and stuff like that, but i never thought our town would get hit by one.

  • We took a fire truck down there from the St Louis area as part of a mutual aide task force. I remember sleeping in a tent across from the Fire station and it was so cold. The destruction was severe and I am sure many had no insurance. I also remember a large building that had cotton in it that was destroyed. A church group fed us well while we were there. I hope that the residents have recovered from that destructive storm.

  • Even though they survived? O.o

Also the song ruins the vid, an epic tornado kinda calls for something a lot more ballsy then some gay Creed-style emo whinefest.

  • i was in too .......i lived right behind the high school

  • Wow Its really hard to watch this even 4 years later. . . i lived on 18th street and during the tornadoe was in a truck on truman just barely out of the storms path. i cried when i saw my house with my mom dad and 2 very young little brothers in a little closet. this tornadoe changed many peoples lives and thanks you God it didnt happen during the night or during school or alot of people wouldnt be here

  • still to this day i cry about that i am scared of bad weather, my daughter remembers that day she talks about it all the time , this is the first time in a little over a year I have watch this video , it was really sad about it is the day this happin my grandmother died,

  • How many people live in Caruthersville, Missouri? Anyone die?

  • Comment removed

  • 6,760 according to the 2000 census. but nobody died.

  • I lived in East Haven In Caruthersville,

I was home with my 3 1/2 month old and 2 Year old daughter, n my son dad was with us, It took us two hours to get threw the mess, with two crying kids . before it hit the little girl next door was on the porch waiting for her mom to come home from work her sister was in the house just got home from being in a car reck,

I told her honey get it the house its comeing she was a strong 13 year old little girl, she did not cry or nothing, all tho i did, lol

  • hey i live on Grand Ave. and i saw this tornado when it happened!

  • I used to lived on Ward Ave. across from the school. The house was blown away. God have mercy that this never happens again.

    dennis james

  • well i go to FEMA High and it isnt any fun cause even though it was two years ago caruthersville has just now made up their minds on what they are going to do about our school but i am probally going to graduate out of the trailors but thats nothing compared to some kids who have no school so i still appreciate what we have

  • you are so strong.....and have a wonderful outlook on life. your comment made me cry because there needs to be more people like you. thank you for sharing your comment with us.

  • That surveillance footage is unbelievable! How have I not seen it before? Great video.

  • As the title was playing, I was hoping to god that music wouldn't play, and then that song.. oh that song.. I will watch no more.

  • Google is a seach engine. It's not the National Weather Service. Regardless, it probably did get up to F-4 before it came into town.

  • i was it that tornado .............its otis

  • That is just amazing and scary!

  • Wow...its interesting to see something like this. Ive personally had close call experiences with probably...F2-F3 tornadoes, but this seems like nothing. Its also interesting that this happened two years ago.

  • i live in Kennett Missouri and it was on its way to hit my town and i didnt have a basement my step dad works for KBOA and we were on our way to the basement there and we saw it there was 2 tornadoes and i was so freaked out i was 12 at the time and was so scared it hit a house bout 4 miles out of Kennett it was gone and still right now Marmaduke still has debris out in the fields it was a bad day for the bootheel.

  • im glad it didnt hit hayti thats my home town

  • I was coming back from Alabama that day down near Bradford, Tn on US 45 when that tornado outbreak happened and just missed drivin into one there....but I see Caruthersville every now and then on my way to Casino Aztar

  • I live in Cape Girardeau where KFVS-12 is based. My two cousins live in Caruthersville and the tornado went right passed their house.

  • I remember when this happened i live in sikeston missouri which isnt that far away from there.

  • An F3 on the new EF scale would actually be a EF4. Because there was an EF4 that hit a few hundred yards away from my house and my neighbors houses are in trees. Some brick homes whiped off there foundations and moved about 30 yards away.

  • I remember when this happened but I didn't realize how bad it was ... holy crap! I do miss the bootheel a little bit though. :(

  • I used to live in Caruthersville. I went there the day after to help friends. It was horrible.

  • man that was messed up im glad didnt hit my house hit my freinds tho just a few blocks away from my house

  • My heart goes out to all involved in the tornado. I spent alot of time there. I live in Memphis, but my family in Steele are the Allison's. I hope all is going well with all.

  • My grandmas house wasnt torn down lol her name is Gladys she sells candy on 11th street

  • (sad)_(sad) wow so many peoples houses runiened

  • i live in caruthersville and i mean im only 14 and it was a bad night im glad i was in wardell when it happened but they built tigermart in replace of noxes and it burned a week ago i mean were havin some problems but weve come a long way its too bad we were voted no for a new highschool im goin to hayti next year becuz i cant go to school in trailers but ALOT of people goin to highschool like me r movin cuz we cant go to c'ville it would be to hard with the trailers plz pray god bless

  • Knox's is completely gone I'm sorry to report..

  • This is a award winning video. Excellent in all ways. I have been to Caruthersville many times and I want to send a thanks to all volunteers and community for all the help that was brought to this town. God Bless you all.

  • thank you. we have come a long way since last april.

  • My cuz was the on who the home vid was on KFVS-12 i was in Malden MIssouri

  • That is probably the best tornado video I've ever seen! I've never seen what a building looks like from the inside when it gets hit by a tornado. That footage is amazing! Good job!

  • omg i hated that this tornado hit our school but it brought our community closer!

  • hey im from Kennett,Missouri about 15 miles from Caruthersville it was scary enough looking at it WOW!

  • But if my sience teacher die that would be great! =D

And u can make a basket with something like a ring, a piece of wood and a paper ball =P

  • it sounds cool to have ur school destroyed, but it delays everything. we didn't get to play any football or basketball games at home this year and our graduation is delayed.

  • the damage to me would put this twister here an F2 or F3 houses were still intact and i havent seen any buildings completly destroyed like an F4 or F5 would do. another chaser would probably say this as well

  • channel 8 news had it posted as an F4, i didnt get all the footage that i needed. there were parts of our town that were completely destroyed.

  • It was rated a strong F-3 by the NWS.

  • Yep, that is correct, it was an F3 (would be EF3 on the new scale).

  • @AceFighter10 The houses may not be leveled but they are total loss's. They are not salvageable

  • Hey im from caruthersville and my hous was hit! and thats my school!

  • Thanks for posting this! Excellent job!

  • thank u for your support. caruthersville i builing back.i was in the tornadoe. and when it hit my house it didn't sound like a freight train but it was loud though

  • sorry to hear that, but suprisingly noone in caruthersville died during the tornado. we are all thankful for this, but i know of several people that got hurt.

  • Nice video...it was much worse to actually go through it though...all I could think of was my 6 mo. old daughter

  • soo sad..

  • AAAAHHHHGGG NICKELBACK

the video itself is haunting and well edited, but please take the music out, it ruins the whole effect.

  • You see this stuff like this on the news and you always feel sorry for the people involved. After seeing this video it really made me realise the pain they must of gone through. Imagine just loosing everything you own.

Even the photographs, the memories, the life.

    Brilliant piece of footage. x

  • I know what you mean, so many of us lost everything because of this tornado. Thank you all for your comments.

  • yo oz this is jeff good footage : )

  • ay man i'm so sorry to see that dats depressin
