  • two absolute greats!!!! and not a surprise to me showing that Nusrat truly was transendental as well as Gabriel's spiritual soul....I have to get this!!!!

  • Happy Birthday Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan :)

  • nusrat..:)))) superb....

  • Gr8 Maestro.............at his best

  • Haven't seen or listened to this in ages. Still gives me shivers 15 years later. So glad this is here to bookmark. Thanks!

  • This version is a million times better than an exactly similar one with a bunch of amateur singers lining up distorting and meddling on the legend Nusrat Khan Saheb.

One of those amateur singers was apparently doing it on purpose to meddle Khan Saheb's Raag!! in an advent racist fashion! Gabriel smiled slightly as if he knew why she was screaming with her squeaky voice!

May Allah bless Khan Saheb's Soul.

  • superior to the album version.

  • @3:16 ... priceless smile on Peter's face. NFAK had that affect on his true listeners. Peter was a damn good judge of talent and gift. NFAK was the best musician to ever be judged.

  • r u listenng?

  • omg.... the miracles...

  • 2:51 NFAK's voice is mind blowing

  • One thing.. Goosebumps!!!! NFAK RIP

  • nw wat cn i say abt hm.....aalaaaps !!

  • What an amazing collaboration! The song is almost apocalyptic in feel here. Thanks for posting.

  • saw him sing this last night amazing!

  • isn't there a longer version of this on the vh1 show? i would have sworn it was like 8 minutes long. either way, RIP Nusrat. Your voice and passion will be missed.

Did you know Michael Stipe called it his "favorite new song" after the performance?

  • @k0pikolombia

    Hahaha. Exactly!

  • Rencontre au Sommet.....Nusrat une Voix hors du commun...

  • Not necessary to describe this, or the feelings it produces. I fall short. The most significant song, the best performances I have ever seen. Gabriel's music sounds at once ancient and futuristic.

  • Nusrat ... Nusrat ... Nusrat ... Nusrat ... Nusrat ... Nusrat ... Nusrat!!!

And thank you Peter for showing him to the wider western world!

  • 15 Bieber fans hated this...

  • nusrat jamming to the beat at 2:26.... too sik!!!!

  • THis version of the song is WAY better than the piece of shit PG did in Up .....we need a remaster of this song ....Now

  • top video mir ist klar das man sowas hier nicht schreibt aba ich bin einsam und süß

  • @hotSarah99 ich kann dich shoen verstehen.......

  • 3:15 is the moment which will live forever. Peter knew that Mr Khan just did a miracle. Mr Khan forever!!

  • I am a Canadian and I miss Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan. Rest in Heaven pal.

  • mmmmm where and when was this recordes, the song apears on UP 2002, and Nusrat past away in 1997, so im confused about the originaliti of the video, i gess is an edition of various session videos

  • @cerojase

    Recoded @1996

    one year before his death

  • @cerojase This was from 1996 - live from the VH1 Honors show. Peter's intention was to have Nusrat record a fresh take for the album, but Nusrat passed away not long after this performance. Instead, Peter edited this vocal take to fit the album version.

  • @cerojase hey which album have this song

  • @cerojase

  • @cerojase The take you hear on "Up" is taken from this recording.

  • @cerojase VH1 (like MTV but directed at adults, at least it used to be like that, in case you're not in the United States and are unfamiliar with VH1) used to have an annual "VH1 Honors" show where they'd highlight a singer's charitable cause. In 1996, Peter Gabriel was the one being honored for his work with The Witness Project, which was created in an attempt to distribute video recorders to people so that they could document injustices... quite ahead of his time... continued in next reply

  • @cerojase Peter had worked with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on the soundtrack for Dead Man Walking (a Sean Penn movie). This was the very first performance of Signal to Noise in front of an audience. In my opinion, this is the best version of the song ever. This is my favorite song ever. It's so, so visionary.

There's a live version floating around the internet with Youssou N'Dour doing the guest vocals, he's a long time guest vocalist with PG, it's also quite good but just not as great as this.

  • Great !!!!!

  • Where is this concert? What DVD??? Tks in advance for any reply.

  • Can somebody pls tell me the name of the Nusrat song (possibly remix) that has a huge drum section at the beginning, i think it's something with Michael brook but i'm not sure. Thanks.

  • Quality!!! Small sections of this song were used in Scorsese's "Gangs of new york"

  • This is from Peter Gabriel's "Up" release. It took 10 years to complete the album with greats such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who are no longer with us.

  • he is the singer from soil.i dont want to say he was becouse in my eyes he is always alive

  • Thank you very much snkhan! : )

  • it is rightly said for NFAK "A VOICE FROM HEAVEN"

  • Is it true that P. Gabriel said Nusrat is my Elvis?

  • @Mirpuria

    Jeff Buckley said that.

    Nusrat is sublime.

  • @Mirpuria

Jeff Buckley said that Nusrat is his Elvis. =)

  • WHAT THE HELL? How come I never knew about this? Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a perfect performer. I lovvvvvvvve him!

  • WHAT THE HELL?

  • People like Nusrat must live for 200 years.

  • @shayansalman

    you are underestimating him...!

  • This song took years to get onto a CD - just a tremendous track that needs to be played at full volume. Thanks PG for this spine-tingling composition supporting the Witness programme.

  • @coraldonna can you please tell me the cd tittle...thanks

  • Nfak 4 life

  • amazing

  • Excellent

  • If any singer can give you goosebumps ... that singer is only Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.. Peter Gabriel is also great.

  • Sir Nusrat was One n Only , Period !

  • how terrific. Many blessings

  • I am from India and I feel he is the one of the rare singer who holds the heart of even younger generation who love fast numbers.Once again this fusion is really a great stuff and I was really surprised to see this rare vedio clippings on youtube.Any way thanks for the one who post this. I repeat with great voice NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN = NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN [no one can be as him]

  • @malibogpaul As a Pakistani, Bro He Belongs to all the Countries in the World ( Not only to Pakistan )

  • L`occidente incontra l`oriente....un brano stupendo e intenso...almeno nella musica non ci sono barriere tra i popoli.

  • Too good ... NFAK you are the best..... R.I.P. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan... Even Peter Gabreil was looking like nothing in front of you....

  • Gracias Peter por acercar esta voz a occidente!!!

  • when nusrat does his thang, no one,,, NO ONE can freakin MOVE

  • love it love it love it

    excellenttoooooooooooo

  • Nusrat Fateh khan sahab was the first artist from subcontinent who mesmerized not only Pakistan

but wetern countries with his inimitable style of sufi quwali. When you heard him and saw him performing,

one could see the intensity and why they say in india that there could be many ways to connect with God

and one way is through music. Well it is sad that we lost such a legend so early but i think God wanted

to hear him sing and he called him to be with him. May his soul rest in peace

  • OMG His voice - I am speechless, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was the most amazing singer ever!

  • unbelievable mind blowing

  • unbelievable mind blowing

  • Thanks for posting. Wasn't this from the VH-1 Honors show? I recorded it back then, watched it a few times, loaned it to a friend who lost it, and have been trying to find it ever since.

  • nusrat is best

  • at 3:15 peter gabreil smiles to himself during khan sahab does his amazing raag, i think he connected himself with the flow and understood the raag language. Listen this song with good quality headfones, thanks for the upload.

  • @AHSAN1986

    from where r u........i think frm india....dats y u t saying....bloody baster

  • @AHSAN1986 ma sparate

  • i would venture to say Gabriel was damn lucky to collaborate with NFAK

  • @toodance They were lucky to be friends with each other. Has nothing to do with talent levels or anything, they are just two pure spirits that were lucky to become friends.

  • That voice can not be replaced!!!

  • P. Gabriel is the final word when it comes to true recorded artists. This is perhaps his finest song. His music so often sounds part prehistoric/part beamed in from the future. Whilst other recorded 'acts' pretty much talk about themselves and boring crap, a few musicians are the real thing. Peter is the finest- because he always has something to say, put in a very interesting, compelling way.

  • Oh God Goosebumps when the Maestro starts singing.... Amazing

  • 2:49?? Nusrat is the best!! Damn!

  • miss you uncle..!!!

  • Nusrat fateh ali khan - awesome!

  • Surely Nusrat clearly Overshadows Peter Gabriel !!

  • what a Pakistani singer . oooooooh awesome. Nusrat mindblowing

  • I get goose bumps when NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN SINGS, He was the greatest voice in my opinion

  • WOW! NFAK has one of the most powerful voices I've ever heard and I'm a rock singer myself.

Why do the good ones die young?

  • @1CoyoteSpirit

da saddest thing for us is dat that his father n grandfather died at very joung ages,,, they all were awsome singers

  • I love NFAK - what a voice and what humbleness....

  • i never seen a singer singing on scale like nusrat just did...god dam..that was the best and the highest sur i have ever heard....classic....fantastic....super..king of Qawali...

  • so amazing... his voice is godlike... always gives me hope for peace for all of us while listen to it.

  • wow, wow ,nusrat ist always wow

  • Tupac Shakur -irrepressible

    Bob Marley(legend) -irrepressible

    Michael Jackson -irrepressible

Nusrat fateh ali khan (legend)-irrepressible R.I.P

  • @kibakimafi Agree completely with the last three.

  • @kibakimafi Completely agree with the last three.

  • i couldnt agree with you more

  • Sends chills on my body when Nusrat starts singng here. Amazing combinations. Wow!

  • this is DOPE

  • 2:48 to 2:54 the best.

  • A most powerful song.. it wrenches at your soul and really makes you think about this crazy world in which we live. Long Live Gabriel!

  • Pure Ballziac!

  • Is Peter Gabriel singing here? What is he singing about?

  • @uzbekmann ... I advise you to go to this video version of the song entitled "Peter Gabriel Signal To Noise for Darfur" and maybe this will answer your questions (just search that phrase on youtube). Thank you for asking, more people should know the message PG is trying to convey. He's always been a fervent supporter and advocate for peace in Africa and bringing the atrocities of the world in general to the front stage.

  • Yes he is singing, this is his song!

  • God shown his "giving power" to send Nusrat sahib among us and remain alive after death.

  • Thank you brother, your voice lives on.

  • Listen gues this type of singers never die their voices remain in this world forever. Miss you Nusrat sahab a lot

  • @bholazree14 it's so frustating... i just met him and learn he's already gone...

  • Miss u n your voice KHAN sahab

  • genius.

  • heavenly voice - nusrat fateh ali khan.

    musical genius- peter gabriel

  • sections of this song was used to great effect in "Gangs of new york".

  • khna Sahib you'll missed

  • two great artists... a masterpiece of humankind...

  • Masterpiece

  • That. Was. Amazing. I started listening to the version from the growing up tour and on the dvd i was wondering where that fantastic voice solo was coming from, glad i finally got to see the face behind the voice, to bad he died. rip.

  • Is mr Ali Khan singing in the studio version too? I must say he is astonishing. And Peter Gabriel as always ,too.

  • i was always in troubles...but never cried..but today this song made me to cry...nusrat sahab we miss u...

One and Only Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahib .. Legend ...

  • R.I.P Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan AKA The GREATEST thing that ever happened to Pakistani music. What a great performance. I still remember the day he passed away. How everyone was shocked and crying. Even though most people didn't know him on personal level and still felt like they did because of his music

  • really touching

  • This is definately not one of our everyday stuff! we will never get to see this kind of event again. RIP Nusrat saheb

  • what event video is this?

cause lots of great singer of that time had performed in this show?

Nusrat u are the one !

  • 1996 showing of VH1 Honors, a show which was put on to give recognition to Peter Gabriel's charity called "Witness", I think, the goal of which was to put video cameras into the hands of oppressed people around the world... kind of an odd idea back when he put it out there, but today it looks pretty visionary, doesn't it?? This was a good show, look for "Red Rain" feat Michael Stipe and a few others also, it's nice.

  • It's almost unreal how great avoice he had. R.I.P. My freind.

  • Rest in peace Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

  • RIP

  • chthe is not a song. this is an experience ---very entense. I'm having it for breakfast...every note and beat..thank you for putting this up - sarah

  • I used to listen to this and every other song from the Up album over and over again while I was stationed overseas. It honestly brought me a lot of closure.

  • Nusrat fateh ali khan!!!!! What a lost for this earth! R.I.P

  • really touching

  • WHAT A VOICE "VOICE OF PEACE"

  • khatam hai!

  • Great and simply GREAT

  • Look at trhose high notes by Nusrat Sahb.

    Great.
