  • 4/4 is not a 'male rhyhme"...its just the most common time signature in music..

    No sex/gender involved.

  • There punk??

  • O.M.F.G! Was that Alan Parker I just saw?!

  • Ari is so beautiful with her big smile and crazy hair

  • The drummer for the slits sounds like Mo Tucker of the Velvets.

  • Gay Advert=still hot.

  • we here at aggression believe if you have the music in you dont matter if you got got a pecker or not, or what god you worship or what your fuckin race is. get out there and do what makes you feel good. it what punk is all about

  • R.I.P. Ari Up.........T_T

  • they better listen again to x ray spacs as she said 1-2 -3-4 a lot

  • R I P Ari

  • We need more chick bands!!!

  • 'they were part of our revolution'

    it's insidious.

  • If I was her age at that time, I'd have so married Patti Smith!

  • @desasterz me too, i want to marry her.

  • @desasterz Now that I look at Patti Smith, I realize she has some uncanny facial feature similar to that of my mother! She looks like she could be my mom's older sister! LOL^_^

  • The red haired woman's line of being able to wear what one wants and being able to look ugly. It reminds me of how I look compared to many of the adolescent/young adult boys and men who work and attend the church I go to. They wear tight jeans, I wear loosey jeans. They wear tight, preppy shirts, I wear large t-shirts. They sport moptop/emo hair, I sport chopped up long hair that's in a ponytail. They're all thin and lanky, I'm trim but look well fed.

  • @Jakegothicsnake Sounds sexy to me ;)

  • I'm suprised Rotten's dumbass actual agreed to get interviewed. Fucking idiot.

  • Also,i mentioned bands from the 1970s only, because this part of the documentary is mostly about the early punk music scene.

But you're right. The Runaways Go-Go's Bikini Kill,Bratmobile,L7,etc. also worth mentioning! As for Patti Smith and Blondie, even if they're not considered punk, they influenced the women in punk bands, both in attitude and sound.

Most Riot-Grrl bands cite The Slits' early songs among their influences

  • Don't get me wrong there is nothing more sexy and liberating than women doing their thing...their own thing on stage, be it in a mixed band or a GRLLL band. I think it is great and I am a fan of many female acts. I take issue with people here, who don't have a clue about anything and talk out of their ass and genre. I have read a lot about WWII, but was not there to witness it first hand.

  • Cmon asshole,,,,,You know everything tell us all how only your Goddam opinion and noone elses matters???? Are you one of those fokking goofballs that thinks he's Jesus???

  • @Maxharddrive64 Hey Max, tell us all your thoughts on the history of "post punk" or "dark wave". Turn off VH1 behind the music "Aerosmith" and read a book while listening to music your parents didn't turn you onto. Cheers from the center of the universe...SoCal

  • @aupsychobilly Naw see because only your opinion in music count no one else is allowed to have an opinion. Your Music Moses you tell us how were suppose to think . Im not suprized your from So Cal. People there like to try to tell everyone else in a free society how to live and think and sleep and eat

  • @Maxharddrive64 Are you listening to yourself? How old are you really? You ask me to debate, explain and enlighten; but in reality you are just spinning out of control with your closed mind.... As for SoCal...what would you know of it...you're obviously from podunk nowhere..."The D".

  • We desperately need a rivival of the punk movement. We need youth to start looking and dressing tough, sloppy, trashy, scary, and imaginative. This whole emo/scene/hipster culture is just full of losers trying to look cool without looking threatening and instead looking pathetic and impotent.....

  • Hit it on the fucking head...they have no idea what the fuck is going on.

  • Tell me about it.........

  • Yep only you do dip wad so fokkin enlighten us?????????

  • @Maxharddrive64 I wasn't criticizing everyone...only you...and you still don't know shit. I can see by your reaction that you are very young or immature. I don't need to enlighten you further as you aren't listening. Is this you soapbox in life...does it make you feel powerful? You have nothing to say. You have no mastery of lexicon and lack any form of valuable narrative. Don't like my opinion...OK, and what? I don't like yours, deal with it. Please have an opinion & don't be sensitive.

  • @aupsychobilly OOOh wow look at you throwing big words like 'lexicon' and structuring 'valuable narrative' in sentance form and acting all hyfalutent. Lemme guess someone used those words on you on here, made you look like the putz you are and you had to go look them up real fast and use them on someone so you could feel like you wereback to being a 'big man'. Clap clap clap Im so happy for ya Johnny go have some ice cream you used a big word today

  • @Maxharddrive64 Grow up...every time you hurl an insult you look like a bigger hick than before. Seriously, look at all of your comments, they are embarrassing. I am not even talking about all of your spelling and grammar issues. Your content is weak and low level juvenile. You are like an angry little boy (or a loser adult still living at home) sputtering out sentence fragments with. Just stop, you are inferior to me in every way...you say stupid shit and don't realize you've been owned.

  • @Maxharddrive64 I really do not understand why you became so upset...still live at home? Are you the "cock on the walk" in the aforementioned subject? Are you the only opinion that matters? Did I devalue and humiliate you...if that is how you truly feel...that I embarrassed, slighted or humiliated you, well then I apologize. I am sure I probably came off strong or as a know it all and I certainly admit that i do not know it all. I am well experienced and have been around for a long time.

  • All youve done is attack me fuck tard you still havn't enlightened us on your views towards the subject. All you did is come in here read someone elses opinon, didnt agree and criticized what I wrote. Ok so debate. Explain to me your why what I said is wrong regaurding the music?

  • @Maxharddrive64 You are illiterate and shortsighted...I have not attacked you with one syllable profanity, but it would be easy to do as you are a wide open target in every way.

  • @aupsychobilly All youve done so far is attack me...Thats all you are. Your exactly as i said you were. A lil (old) turd ball shit stirrer. Mommy didnt give you enough attention when you were young? You still havnt debated me. Go back to my original comment and explain your opinion as to why "I don't know shit".

  • @Maxharddrive64 I have already dealt with your ignorance once and do not feel it necessary to do it again... Debate? Really, really? You are a tool and a hypocrite. You don't what you really want to say because you can't think clearly with that 90 IQ you're sportin'...or is that a 64 IQ?

  • @Jakegothicsnake which is why i got rid of my emo cut and now sport a 23 cm mohawk :)

  • @sodrunkimissedthshow Poser dude.

  • @TheFigueroa007 cos he has a mohawk?

  • @sodrunkimissedthshow Good for you! :D

  • dude there is... TRUST ME!! If you only knew ...

  • @Jakegothicsnake where d'you live? I'm making music.

  • @desasterz I live in the Coachella Valley.

  • @Jakegothicsnake Right, I live in Middlesbough England.Oh well.

  • @Jakegothicsnake Thank god some one agrees.

  • @Jakegothicsnake ur right that's why I hate being a teen in today's society I would be just be happier growing up in the 80's because that's when everything was not about image

  • @Jakegothicsnake i try my best man. checkout my own band we believe in punk :) were called Checkpoint

  • The punk at 1:58 looks very much like my friend who goes to my old school! Except the resemblance would be spot on if her hear was cut shorter and dyed black.

  • The same about Patti Smith,Talking Heads,Blondie,The Avengers etc.

  • i definitely disagree! i think The Slits,X-Ray Spex,Penetration,Siouxsie and The Banshees or The Adverts, which all had female members, were just as good as any other male-only punk band at the time. Open your minds,as well as your ears.

  • I 100% Agree. Open your mind to music. Find out where your style of music comes from and the history of it. Blondie looking back on it now really was a bridge between Punk and New Wave, she introdouced white America to rap music with the song 'rapture". Yes there was rap music going but it wasn't being heard. The Slits arent credited enough with introdoucing ska and reggae to the masses. And Patty Smith, man what can you say? People young and old are still discovering her music.

  • Everything you said is load of crap...and in regards to Patty Smith....Horses, horses, horses, horses...horseshit! Saying people young and old are still discovering her music is like saying people are still discovering GG Allin or the Beatles or Clamydia. Your view on Blondie introducing white America to rap and the Slits introducing Ska and Reggae to the masses is lame and ridiculous. Really?! really? Open minds to music is one thing but knowledge of music is another.

  • Ok Mr or MRS fokkin know it all enighten us? You know fokkin everything and noone else is allowed to have an opinion? Well geeze damn, too fokkin bad my opinion is YOU dont know fok either !All youve done so far is criticize everyone else! Im also guessing you werent even alive back then to even know wtf was goin on... you nothing more than just a lil turd banger tryin to stirr up shit........Go ahead asshole enlighten us on your fokkin brlliance??????

  • none of you bands listed are GRLLL bands...the slits drummer is a dude.

The bands you listed have a female lead singer or as in the Adverts case...Gay was the bass player and only 1 female in the band. Yeah you said they had female members...but they were not all GRLLL bands like: Go-Go's, Lunachicks, The Donnas, The Runaways, Bikini Kill, ETC.......what was your point really?

  • i was just replying to some comments here, that either said the bands who had female members were crap or judge them by their looks, which they never do with male members.

I didn't refer to all-female punk bands in particular, because there weren't many in the 1970s. The Slits, had a female drummer,Palmolive who joined The Raincoats in 1979.

  • @cpunctn I did not have a critical word toward your comments...they are right on...in my humble opinion.

  • The Chumbawamba's (terribly ridiculous name) singer, I'm sorry to say, must be the ugliest thing I've seen in a long time (except for politicians). If their music reflects her looks they must be scarily awful. Is she a vampire? Bbbrrrr.....

  • They were fucking shit as fuck. I'd love them to read this and wake up to the fact. And yes shes ugly. Bird from the slits turned out nice though!!!

  • bigot

  • pistils clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols clash pistols...someone nudge the needle or change the fucking record
