  • The next best guitarist next to Eddie Van Halen

  • 6:05 LMAFO! Great move!

  • I did not know Tommy Aldridge was in Whitesnake..?

  • I hate big arena rock solos,..but ya gotta admit,...that was fuckin cool....

  • nice seven string guitar??*****

  • I travelled all the way down from Scotland to see Vai play at this gig :p His playing here has the feel of his performance in Crossroads...his picking has changed a bit over the years - but this and DLR tours he was at his peak :p I met him at the Edinburgh gig too and he signed my Flexable Leftovers 10" which I still have :p

  • Vai acts like a cheesy cosmopolitan showman.

  • It's almost like he spent some time practicing.

He'd have been bloody good if he'd tried a bit harder I think.

  • how did that guitar survive haha

  • Vai has improved a lot in 22 years. He's so much cleaner in his playing now. Practically 0 missed notes, and you can tell he never accidentially clips another string any more.

  • @Jahaudant In my opinion this sounds so much better than any of his recent performances. I'm not sure why, maybe it's the tone. At his guitar clinic he mentioned an injury to his picking arm that prevents him for picking as fast as he used to, so he seems to rely more on legato techniques which usually sound much cleaner than picking.

  • He looked like he was about to stroke out at 1:24

  • @JEZFLYNN dude i was only complimenting the epic greatness that is Steve Vai :/ who gives a shit as long as hes makin epicas mother-fuckin solos :)

  • in 1992 at Expo92 he played the song For the Love of God, he said then that it was the first time playion that song in from of an audience. If this was taken in 1990 and he is playing it here at 1:44 then he lied about playing it for the first time in in 1992.

  • Epic-facepalm!!!!!!!!!

  • note-perfect... frickin EPIC!!!

  • @SVtheshredder lol are you deaf 5:36

  • @SVtheshredder Actually it's not note perfect ....however, who cares!

  • What an era!

  • @enos218 ...if only everyone could be as intelligent as you eh?

  • @coltsuperocean10 Thanks.

  • It looks like he skinned one of eddie's frankenstrats, died it purple, and wore it to say "Yes eddie, I took your bitch roth from you, now I'm taking your title as best rock guitarist too."

  • This is why I Steve Vai is my #1 favorite Guitarist.

  • HOLY SHIT @ 7:05

  • he had a convulsion while still playing better than everyone watching this

  • Wait...where are the contractually obliged fans onstage with which he can have his hair subtly blown in a dramatic and epic fashion?

  • Can hear he learned to play from Joe...

  • i see coverdale lets slip at the intro 6 strings not good enough for him like a a old women bitching at the market he lets slip i dont he like him

  • que linda su guitarra, yo podria hacer una asi :)

  • Amazingly beautiful and inspiracional song...

  • @videosdopina

    It's a medley.

    anyway, Vay is great.

  • its not like he actually touched the extra string during the solo

  • thanks so much for this video in good quality, it makes me sad that vai doesnt play his uv77mc guitars anymore!

  • Cara é demais... \,,/

  • This man is my hero !!!!!!

  • omg!! please marry my mom haha

  • steve vai is super crazy when playing the guitar

  • Steve is the best. Nuf said.

  • @rulerwithcounsel-Fuck please please forgive us your highness!...for we are all just millions of fans all over the world that simply "fall for this kind of melodramatic playing"out of our sheer musical ignorance ....Man it must really piss you off to see so many "ignorant" people enjoying this video that you have to actually post about how shitty Vai is....LOL!..Know what pisses me off?-DickHoles like you.....Fuck Off and go listen to some Kotke or something CumShot!!

  • @tweetert1 he's a technical genius. but certainly not a musical one.

  • @tweetert1 I agree. This is music for nerds. Technically interesting but no soul.

  • Jesus oh fuck omg shit <3 semen just exploded out of my ears! -melts-

  • FUCKING SHIT ALMOST I DIE! X.X

  • that was fucking brilliant. stevie definately got laid that night

  • I was there :) it was awesome :) ahhh and David in a vest, and big hair... them was the days!!! :)

  • ..MR. passion and warfare!!

  • great. been lookin 4 that bit-flash i saw of him swinging a green guitar around his neck since 1990 ! finally !

  • Hes used that same tapping thing for years; the same melodramatic bullshit that fools the ignorant everytime. Take away his effects and hes a nobody

  • @rulerwithcounsel I'd agree if anything you said was true.

  • @rulerwithcounsel Allright, can you do it? Then post a video. I can assure you that if Vai's style is so simple and hidden under these secrets, so that you can easily emulate it, you'll soon become a super guitar star. I know, guitarworld is so unfair...But that's how it goes!

  • @rulerwithcounsel - You are a dickhead! Sure, he uses effects - but EVERY guitarist does to some extent... I'm sure he learned what to do with dry amp and guitar controls long before he dabbled with FX...

  • @ZEGO24x No, anyone can play like this with his effects and rig. For instance, even though I'd not played guitar before, I bought a Les Paul and a Marshall stack and lo and behold, I was playing like Eric Clapton *instantly*! The next day I bought an Eventide guitar harmonizer and mastered the entire oeuvre of Via AND Satriani!

  • @mahajohn yeah thats not true...

  • @mahajohn I will be waiting for your cover.

  • @LouCFur90 Please; I was being facetious.

  • @mahajohn - So, you are trying to tell me, you bought a Les Paul and Marshall stack combo, and was "INSTANTLY" playing like Eric Clapton, who is known for his Stratocaster anyway? What about the years of scales/chord practice necessary for smooth playing which ol' Slowhand is known for? OK, the harmonizer would thicken solos with harmonies, sure, but if you didnt know WTF you were doing, it would get old really quickly! What about the technical skills involved in Vai's/Satch's songs?!

  • @ZEGO24x A few things...

    1. I was obviously joking. Relax.

    2. Eric Clapton was *strongly* identified with Les Pauls during his Mayall and Cream days, when he was already "Slowhand."

    3. I doubt Eric Clapton every practiced a scale his entire life.

    4. Go back and read my comment and you will see how completely preposterous my claims are, then reflect on your own lack of a sense of humor.

    5. I was also paraphrasing Roger Waters in "Live at Pompeii."

  • @mahajohn - It's funny, but there are people who say this kinda shit here meaning every word they say! I obviously have a sense of humour, because I read these things, AND I'm Aussie, but seriously, go check some other claims in these comments - you'll see just how many ignorami comment here! Not including the obvious trolling, which reminds me - Good work, you got me there... I admit it... :P

  • Comment removed

  • @mahajohn lol whats your name..you should be famous if your playing like Clapton and Via.. And you have never played a guitar before..lol effects are nothing.. people know the music coming out of them. I would love to see you duel Stevie Vai.. it would be great..

  • @smileyfaceishappy You are obviously a bit dense, based both on your writing, and your inability see that I was making a transparent and rather absurd joke. I was obviously being silly.

  • @mahajohn People, please. This is obviously an absurd and completely impossible claim. Take a chill pill and look inward to find your sense of humor. In actuality, I suck. I mean, it actually took me more than a month to get from rank amateur to some sort of amazing hybrid of Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Django Reinhardt, and Michael Hedges. Protein supplements, kundalini yoga combined with ayahuasca combined with 18-hours of playing every day is the only way.

  • Steve Vai is a true Guitar-God! it's amazing how is playing so fluid! and the sound is still marvellous,21 years later!!!!

  • Geez, only in the early Nineties you could get such combo: Come for the Whitesnake, have a bonus Steve Vai mini concert with Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge in the Kitchen. Fuckyea!

  • The 1st song is For The love of God. The 2nd song is The audience is listening!

  • What is the song starting at 5:12 please someone tell me :D

  • @matezguy Steve Vai´s Passion & Warfare album....

  • Steve Vai é fera! Exagerou um pouco , mais foi ótimo a performance!

  • Wicked moment. Steve is on fire.

  • Why are all the Great guitar players from the United States?

  • @jpnoll Hell yeah he f*&*in' can !

  • Oh that poor guitar/lucky guitar

  • Ibanez Universe guitars are sooo awesome. 30 years from now, they should be considered vintage antiques like 59 les pauls.

  • How tall is steve ? about 5 foot 6 inches

  • iCame

  • Steve Vai at his prime

  • 4:16 hahahahahahahahahahahahah!

  • oh please all you fuckers baging out EVH go fuck yourselves, without him via would not have picked up the guitar!

  • @friedfeedback Except for that he picked a strat up to play like hendrix....

  • inovador!

  • come on Stevie, play some music at last....

your admirably fast and skilled, but that's all you can get credit for. sorry. no music seen at all in this video.

  • @2k6baranello f*ck off and die.

  • @TheMikeakers I might as well do it, but Steve Vai won't play any more music than now. ok. but seriously - he's really superb in terms of speed, technique and any freaking way of making guitar sound. period. and I do admit that there are a few guitarists that can compare like compete and compare like being equally innovative. having said that, I just say that there's little melody in what he plays and it's simply boring - as I prefer more music in guitar sound.

  • Comment removed

  • @2k6baranello Just... listen to some of his music then?

  • @Guitareben I did try, and well, thanks. but anyway, with this guy you just can't convince me, still I do respect all his admirers :) and of course, I will never be as skilled as him.

  • @2k6baranello Fair enough then :D Steve Vai ain't for everyone :)

And don't be silly, you could learn to do all that stuff ^^

  • @Guitareben oh gosh, why do you provoke me :) theoretically I could, though my best years in mastering my guitar skill are behind me. I won't since I don't see the point :)

  • @2k6baranello Ha well, there is no point learning it if you don't want to or don't like the sound of it :D

And was i provoking you?!?! :o

Also, it's a pleasure to have a fairly civilised conversation on youtube :D

  • @Guitareben yeah provoking to express my hatred once more by saying that I don't see the point ;) I also appreciate your responses. last time I put my critic here some prick insulted my mom, so I know whattya mean :) cheers, mate.

  • @2k6baranello Ohhh no i didn't mean to provoke you :D You just said you'll >never< be as skilled as him, and what i meant was that you COULD, if you so wished, learn to do all of that stuff :D But you don't, so whatever :D

(likewise, thank you for not being like "Lololol Vai fanboy why don't you go suck Vai's dick lololzzzz" etc :D Appreciated :D )

    Cheers :)

  • That is why they called him "The Dark Sorcerer".

  • In this time Steve Vai was the greatest guitaridol on this planet !!!!!! I love him !!!!!

  • Honestly, that's pretty sloppy of a solo for Steve Vai, but entertaining none the less. He's quite the showman. I saw him live in 1996 and again in 1999. He really started to play more accurately on EVERYTHING he played live then. I wonder if he was a bit of a drinker in 1990?

    Also, BAD ASS jacket!

  • Thank Faraday Vai

  • Took the electric guitar to a new place.

  • 1:23 - "huurrrrrr derpppp durrrrrrrrrrr"

  • your right he's not human and ment to bring down all those over sized ego guitarist that destroyed the art of Rock and roll by seeing who can play the fastest making noise and rubish! Steve brought the art of the guitar back up from the ashes of Rock and Roll and he's seems like a great guy. I'm obviously a fan...Da!

  • 1:23 so fast his own face melted! I imagine he would be immune to it now

  • Was there with my GF

    2 days later

    Now she's my wife :)

  • @BlackStar5812 Yeah, we were all there with her

  • @BlackStar5812 that's life man!

  • I was there... great memories.

  • makes it look so easy......

  • Vai reminds me of David Copperfield. He is truly a showman, a 'magician' if you will. Like him or hate him, he's truly a master of the guitar like the others. Absolutely unique.

  • Truely Awesome Guitarist!!

Where do these guys come from......????

  • Pity he prances around like a tit

& this flying all over the guitar is a bit - well boring after a (short) while

  • I am starting to love Vai. When I first got a guitar I loved him, but all the newbs loved him so i got turned off. But this guy truly is a master of the instrument.

  • move whit melody! and enjoy! that said Steve Vai

  • Stunt guitar

  • God I hate all the moronic comments that always follow these kind of videos....

  • my favorite playing from steve, is from when he played in whitesnake..truly amazing!

  • 2 people who watched this video play bass

  • I don't know...a lot of gimmic...playing is not so good...

  • @hamaars Dude he is very very very very technical and soulful

  • @IMaiden23 Im not so sure.. I have been a fan of Steve Vai All my life, But sometimes i think he is more bussy shaking his ass and doing strange poses, Than actualy playing the guitar...

  • @hamaars You have a very very good point!

  • Steve is awesome!

  • His little finger is longer than my middle finger, therefore, I hate him.

  • I'm fucking scared.

  • Where does a person go and what does a person play when you get to the point when you can technically execute anything possible? Well you start by adding an extra string. Than you just do off and do a bunch of etherieal crazy stuff like this

  • @faithandpractice

    I love your comment!

  • What a clown he is!! hahaha greaT!

  • He is so goon man

  • vai ...my master!!

  • REALLY?? REALLY?? he just is a MASTER at guitar!!

  • Mike Terrana on drums?
