  • @CorruptedRonin geez. i knew that. i guess i was having a stupid moment when i typed that. thanks :)

  • @sbriscar

  • they kill this song every freakin time. its seriously a work of art!!

  • 2:43 it's so hard to play when a monitor is out, all you can hear is the crowd, so your basically playing deaf to yourself... it's pretty crazy. He's brilliant.

  • You guys are so amazing!!! That is a dream of mine to see your live performance!

    Congrats! U'r the best!

  • it's my dream to travel the world playing music. if i had the bonus of doing that with someone i love that would literally make me complete.

  • it's just perfect...

  • I saw "Once" just some minutes ago and felt in love with this song. Could someone send me this one, please? (ICQ: 404425577)

  • 3:30 on pretty much explains why he has such big holes in his guitar! His hands move faster than the video camera can even register! I'm amazed he had strings on the guitar after that performance!

  • @pyrofreak321 I have downloaded his project with marketa.. the swell season... damn I really like his song.. thanks for sharing this information with me guys...!!!!

  • such beautiful (: .. i´m so impressed by glen hansard, normally i don´t hear such music but when i heard it in the movie i want to buy the whole album (: when i´m older i want to play guitar too; not at the moment trumpet :D sorry for wrong english -greetings from germany

  • powerfull song!!

  • @ jetpumz...he´s in leadsinger and guitar player in an irish band called "the frames" :)

  • the best few minutes i have ever spent :)

  • I love these guys! So original, so deep, so talented, so real! I really want to hear Glen and Marketa sing "Dimming of the Day" sometime because I can imagine just how awesome they would make it sound!

  • I like this song!!!! his voice is great..!!! is he a real singer??

  • @jetpumz yes. has a band made in i think 1991 called The Frames(much more successful in Ireland) and they're having an american tour in 2011 to celebrate their 20th year aniversery. Marketa wasn't in the band back then, but she'll be touring with them. These guys are deep. Buy their music its amazing. The movie Once he was in with her really boosted his career and is now more known in America for the band Swell Season, focused on Marketa and him, but his other band musicians are from The Frames

  • @jetpumz I recommend the songs High Horses, The Verb, Feeling the Pull, Low Rising, Fitzgeraldo(from album Strict Joy(the bonus live tracks CD), and When your Mind's made up( Strict joy bonus live tracks CD)

  • omg.. its teh same guitar form teh movie.. wow!!! the movie was real time wasn't it!!!

  • so beautiful song and the movie is very simple but it's fantastic!!!!

  • I really love the music from this film <3

    Great!

  • i tried singing falling slowly. i cant do the octave thing he does. crazy man. Loved the movie = D

  • Yea. It's in 5/4..

  • His strumming patterns are insane hahaha.

  • just as good live! Extremely impressive!

  • All their songs make me cry. Marketa was gorgeous in ONCE.

  • theres something catching you about it...so like melacholic...or is my favourite part in the film when they record the song and the guys think theyre gona suck and then WOW

  • my fave part too...its unreal!!!! love them... going to see them again in december...cannot wait!!

  • grande film, meravigliosa canzone!!!

  • The love of my life and I use to listen to this cd before we went to bed everynight. We broke up about a month ago and he minds made up about not wanting to be with me anymore. I can forget about her and this song makes me think about how much she meant to me and how I wish her mind wasn't made up.

  • great musicians!

    great song!

    great performance!

  • This is my best song POLAND !!!!!!

  • Marketa Irglova is so damn beautiful!

  • Esta también es mi canción favorita de la película. Siempre me quedo pegada escuchándola... amazing composer! he really has spirit.

  • the bestttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • still trying to get the kinda burst strumming he does ugh very hard

  • yeash its hard. as long as your going from the elbow and not the wrist youll get it with practice

  • This is my favorite song from the movie!

  • he's bloody adorable!

seriously, asif he has anything to worry about, he sounds perfect always

    he is so so beautiful

  • Dude, seeing him torch himself because of that monitor issue is almost excruciating to watch. He was pushing so hard as a result of that bad setup. You can really hurt your box pushing yourself that hard. But like always, he sounds amazing.

  • such great emotions he put in his music...

  • It's annoying to play without hearing yourself playing.. You are going to play harder or putting your own volume up because you need to hear yourself...

(Or else you don't know if you're playing the right thing).

  • incredible!

  • wow...

if that was without even hearing themselves...

hAHAAHA that was moving to say the least

  • the movie was really touching.

and this song is touching ,too.

the songs in the movie are quite simple ,but really good.

  • great song, great performace...

  • its wonderful how worried he is about the monitors because he cant hear himself and thinks hes singing out of key... but he sounds perfect and is giving an overwhelmingly brilliant performance...

  • The movie was great.! and this song made it even greater!!!!!

  • we need more musicians like glen. he never ceases to amaze me.

  • theyre so plain and simple-yet powerful, let this be the future of American rock

  • There is... Damien Rice...

  • you know you rock, for posting this.

  • very rarely is the world blessed enough to receive the gift of a man who's entire body and soul consists of music being one of these hopeless romantics myself i would like to say bravo sir and you have both inspired me to pursue my dreams and have also shaken me to the core brilliant

  • Brilliant .. that's what years of busking does for you...still in tune and in time even though the retards at the shop couldn't even plug in a monitor... good job there was no drums

  • y la cara de buena gente que tiene el tio......

  • he plays the shit out of that guitar i love it

  • well put

  • I half expect that poor Takamine to burst into flames at the crescendo.

  • he plays with such intensity because he believes in himself and his music.

  • Love the music, he's just a little pushy

  • which fits the song perfectly.

  • he wants things to be right because he is a professional.

  • which was also going to be the title of the film

glen and mar wrote the music, bar the van morrison songs, and the him character was going to be played by irish actor cillian murphy, but he pulled out due to factors like backing finanially of the film, so john carney, former basist of the frames, asked glen, and glen was very reluctant due to him trying soooo hard to play down his previous acting in the commitments

  • sadly mar and glen aren't together any longer, as a couple, but they plan to continue the swell season

john carney was the writer/director of once, it was his idea

he went to glen for inspirstion, for the point of view as a busker,

  • that rock..gomaith ar fad !

  • so powerful!

  • they remeinds me of damien rice and lisa hannigan when they were together

    just amazing luv it

  • this song so insipiring me...so deep

  • damn he just wails on that guitar.

  • Please, these are two common people hitting a vein that has been sorely neglected-reality. God bless them!

  • cant believe shes only 20!

  • yes but love is love...they are dating and live togheter now

  • oh i know that i was jus saying that because she looks older

  • man, that guy rocks

  • the smile he gives when he starts the 2nd verse.

  • I just love the piano in this song!

  • It reminds me of Yann Tiersen's "Comptine d'un autre jour"!

If you don't know the movie "Amelie Poulin" well...you will like it!!!! It's great music in it :D

  • I know this is weird but Glen seriously reminds me of Damien Rice. His voice i mean. And I love this song, the words are so true and the sound is amazing! Him and Marketa make such beautiful music together! And the movie was great as well!

  • glen and damien are actually good friends. their life story is also similar, where they both spent their early lives playing on the streets to get by. glen even gives thanks to damien rice at the end of the movie 'once'!

  • Glen is lightyears better than Damien Rice

  • From the sound... you're right but the voice...I mean Glen has a bit deeper voice :) Well I like both <3 And Damien Rice is of course my favourite musician

  • really like their music and character

  • I heard they are divorced is that true?

  • im pretty sure they were never married in the first place. they mite have broken up but i cant find anything suggesting that

  • i dont even think they were married in the first place.

  • They never got married.. she might have finally gotten a divorce from her husband back in the Czech Republic though...

  • The lines between fact and fiction appear to have blurred. Anyway, i saw them not 2 weeks ago and going by what i saw they are more than likely still together! Great Live though!

  • she is like 20..im pretty sure she's never been married.

btw i think you're thinking of the movie.

  • That was a piece of fiction. The movie is not a documentary. Glen was hired after other actors backed out like I forget his name but the guy who played Scarecrow in Batman Begins.

Glen and Marketa started going out after the movie. Mainly because she was 17/18 during the movie and Glen is in his upper 30's

  • Uh... I don't think thats how it goes.

From my knowledge, Once was made by Hansard and Irglova as a submission to the Sundance Festival thing in hopes of spreading their music (they are part of the band The Frames, a group of independent artists who have obviously made it pretty/kinda big now). Anyways, the movie was filmed with an extremely low budget and 2 cheap video cameras by Hansard and his crew. He revealed most of this when Falling Slowly won its oscar.

  • and I love his guitar

  • Man they are AWESOME!!!!!

  • This song is just so powerful. I don't understand why it means so much to me, as it's so simple. I love it.

  • it's anything but simple. it's in 5/4, the hardest beat of all

  • I'm playing a piece at the moment in 7/8, i think that's a bit harder...

  • now that IS hard

  • oooh la di da

  • I lol'd.

  • when he hits the high notes in the song i get goosebumps and that doesnt happen with any other song i know :D

  • BÄM!!

  • glen is an amazing musician and marketa is the cherry on top. they work absolutely amazing together.

  • He really cares about his fans.

  • yes!!! he is the most nice, committed(to music)and sweetest man i have ever met!! and i love that they are so happy together.

  • This song & the song, 'Back To Black' by Amy Winehouse are the two best songs of 2007! No contest!

The movie 'Once' was a TEN!

  • man...i love your vids...!
