Ok what is the deal, Is David Gates still performing and touring can someone throw me a fricken bone here? In the 70's I spent alot of coin on condoms and drink listening to this dude and the band. Now I spend the coin on Arthritic creams and pain meds! Hello!!!!
I was also named after this beautiful song. Spelled exactly the same way! I never appreciated my name until my teens when I found my parents Bread album, saw my name on it and listened to this song. I was amazed! I'm 36 now and still would not change it for the world. Thank you Mom and Dad!
What a great song !! David Gates is a little recognized national treasure..What a talent. And Aubrey is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written ,,and my personal favorite of all the great work Bread made...
Bread was one of a select few artists that was the "soundtrack" of my teenage years. I lost my older Brother to a drunk driver and every time I hear David Gates sing, my mind drifts back to some great memories...I think that David Gates and Bread epitomize the meaning of "timeless music"...
Music now is just not like it used to be. There was so much more talent, and so much morel feeling in the music from the past. Definitely one of my all time favorite songs. Beautiful.
Love this song! I was a senior in high school when it was released. Glad to hear David Gates is still gonna be playing (even though it will be with a whole new band - Manna). He's still a song-writing genius. I sure he still has quite a few more classics to write. Thanks for posting.
David gates is alive and well!!! A new band named Manna will be touring in Minnesota-spring of 2010-exact sound alike!! No kidding! Will update with more info when available!
@MrBreadmaker1 I hope people realize you're a scam and there is no Bread soundalike group. Only in your head. You've spammed this video 37 times and deleting your posts is getting old.
Ronaldo
I missed this one...where the hell have these guys been? Talk about guitar/song and vocals this guy had it all...and then disappeared off the face of the planet!
I heard this song first when I was 12 years old after sneaking downstairs and listening to it on my mothers HiFi in what 1981 I guess ......... I was awestruck and that band made me a romantic and a lady's man by the age of 14 :p (I can still sing everyone just a little better than David there he he)
i'm so sad that i missed the 70's... born in '83 and 26 now... my dad started me on bread and all the other music of that generation and i forever owe to him my love of music... the 70's music was such a time of creativity in music which is rarely found compared to the crap my generation has.. there has been some good stuff but nothing beats the 70's... i lived through the wrong decades... i get nastalgic listening to this music and i wasn't even there! 70's at heart!
Me too! I love the 70's and 80's music! My dad loved this style of music! and i give great grattitude to him for exposing me to this era of music! My favorite is Carpenters! OMG Karen had a Voice of an Angel! Davids voice is extrodinary! ~JON
I totally agree, jonwhite20.....I don't believe there will ever be a voice that can even come close to Karen Carpenter's in our lifetime....She is the only singer I know that when she sings, you feel like she is right next to you singing.....I am also a big fan of David Gates and Bread....The music that is out today does not even compare to what was done in the 70's.
The Music Is There For You To Embrace Whatever Music Venue You So Choose To Dive Into. For The Past Month I Have Been Stuck In The Swing Era, And Getting Into The Groups, And Crooners That Were Famous Just Before The Break Of Rock & Roll. Doo Wop Too Has Been A Huge Part Of My Musical Catalog As Well. I Guess Once 1970 Hit, And My Brothers Were Married, And On Their Own At Age 10 I Was Mainly Getting Into The Love Ballads That Was Mainly Forged From The Music Of The Beach Boys, And Beatles.
I grew up in the 70's and enjoyed all the great music but until the digital age, I had missed out on SO MUCH great music from the 70's, 80's and beyond. With downloading I discovered 10 times more music I never knew existed by artists I knew and many more unknown. This music doesn't die, you don't have to live through the era. Just join an unlimited music service and keep discovering. I have about 10,000 songs in my music folder I have purchased and downloaded!
I really enjoyed this posting! One of my favorite songs of the early 1970's....as a teenager, I used to listen to this LP record and dream about some of the girls I liked in High School. He sounds great here, I didn't realize he was still around...you never hear a thing about him or Bread these days...that's a shame his contribution is not more recognized these days....
Beautiful, simple, clear, resonant and unmistakeably David Gates!
Elvindinck, re your comment, I know what you mean. Somehow I wish we could just take 1% of the advertising and marketing budgets of some the formula/canned/corporate "music" acts of the past 20 years or so.... and provide to groups like Bread and others who didn't use glitter, lights, and cliche lyrics!
sures he, s kept his voice , he doesnt smoke , or drink, and takes care of his god given gift, . . .Ive followed david gates career all my life , he is as he appears , un touched by social pressure, . . a close friend knows him , . . . I also love james Griffins contributions as well, . . .
Unbelieveable! My sister had Bread's greatest hits LP when I was a kid and I always liked it. Got to listening to the CD today and came here curious. Thanks so much for posting this, what a treat! David's is such a rare, pure and magical voice and his singing is still so true to his gift and his songs. A genuine musician. Just amazing. Thanks again!
David gates is unreal...so true to the melody and right on key...not afraid of the high notes....a real musicianssinger...thesong is more omportant than the performer...
i remember when i listen this song for the first time i was playing this song as many times as i could again and again and again wow what can i say its fantastic
I'm sorry to hear this. They sounded great together. I saw them play ,maybe 20 years ago in Wheeling Wva. It was one of the best concerts i had gone to.
I saw this tour in the UK and I enjoyed it so much I saw them again on another date.I had front row seats and was amazed how good they were. One of the best concerts i've been to.David Gates Is a fantastic singer and you couldn't fault his voice live.
In this clip, it is 25 or so years after the original recording, and David Gates' voice sounds in perfect form. I'm saddened to learn that we have lost Mike Botts and Jimmy Griffin in 2005. :'(
