The Bible is remarquably same between all Christians (Catholics,Orthodoxes,Protestants). Minor differences are not significants for the spirit or corpus of belief. Study your Bible (take a Catholic or a Baptist one to have a high quality version), study it, compare with Quran and make your own opinion. God will not judge you on politics but on sincerity.
The bible isn't falsified. It's books r all available in their original txt. Just go study @ the museum. Ur findings will match what's currently printed. There's 1 split in the church, -every1 from Catholics. Only Catholics revere saints. The difference between other churches go no further then their services , i.e. -baptists spend more time studying, pentecostals more time praising; etc. People go to what suits them, i.e. academics r generally baptist, artist r generally pentecostal; etc.

@janustinus if you put the claim that it was silver age by "western standards" (not sure how you define western standards as the word "standard" is a variable that changes with time), then yes, the difference between the Islamic conquests and the crusades is clear: the muslim conquests were more ethical that the crusades by every standard. islamic armies were the first to ever have a soldier code of ethics (don't kill women, children, elderly, don't destroy wells...)

But read sourat 5:13 and 5:14.Muhammad claims the Bible was altered in order to be able to feed muslims with HIS version of the Bible. He never says WHO,WHY and WHEN it was altered. Since muslims must believe blindly Qur'an unless be punished by death, there is no way for them to study the Bible. ALL independant scholarly research has shown that Bible texts (taurat and ingil) have never been significantly altered as far as we can go back.

@xtaufux To my knowledge there is no specific interdiction in the Quran, so the word "formally" I used in "formally forbids YOU to study the catholic Bible" is not appropriate. However the interdiction is strongly implied since only the Quran version of the bible is deemed good. It is obviously wasted time for any muslim to even read the Bible. I have never ever seen a comparative study Quran-Bible made by a muslim although many such studies, very thorough, have been produced by Christians.
@world20011 : The 'dark ages' are a myth and so is islamic scientific superiority. The uprise of Europe has more to do with a different approach to scholarship. What did arab scholars do with greek philosopher ? What did european scholars do with greek philosophers ? The outcome was very different. Moreover - all important scientific advances where made by secularist or polytheists - never by monotheists.

You are right. The only intellectual feat and prowess any educated Arab will think about to defend the value of his culture is the so-called invention of zero. But even that single event did not occur. They were not even able to invent zero. BUT they are still able TODAY to believe and pretend they did it, and they prove it by BEING the best zeros around. I spent 20 years in muslim countries. Arabs overall are not intrinsically bad. The bottom of their problem is ISLAM, which is a TOTALITARIAN ideology (of which religion is a small part, but as BAD as the whole). So this guy criticizes the Arabs but does not say a word against islam. His criticism is funny and very well observed but useless. It is like trying to extinguish a fire a big water gun but attacking the TOP of the flames instead of the BOTTOM, ISLAM, source of all troubles.

That the word "zero" comes from "sifr" does not mean that Arabs invented the mathematic notion which is now called zero in our western world. The Bible is remarquably same between all Christians (Catholics,Orthodoxes,Protestants). Minor differences are not significants for the spirit or corpus of belief. Study your Bible (take a Catholic or a Baptist one to have a high quality version), study it, compare with Quran and make your own opinion. God will not judge you on politics but on sincerity.

The bible isn't falsified. It's books r all available in their original txt. Just go study @ the museum. Ur findings will match what's currently printed. There's 1 split in the church, -every1 from Catholics. Only Catholics revere saints. The difference between other churches go no further then their services , i.e. -baptists spend more time studying, pentecostals more time praising; etc. People go to what suits them, i.e. academics r generally baptist, artist r generally pentecostal; etc.

But read sourat 5:13 and 5:14.Muhammad claims the Bible was altered in order to be able to feed muslims with HIS version of the Bible. He never says WHO,WHY and WHEN it was altered. Since muslims must believe blindly Qur'an unless be punished by death, there is no way for them to study the Bible. ALL independant scholarly research has shown that Bible texts (taurat and ingil) have never been significantly altered as far as we can go back.

@xtaufux To my knowledge there is no specific interdiction in the Quran, so the word "formally" I used in "formally forbids YOU to study the catholic Bible" is not appropriate. However the interdiction is strongly implied since only the Quran version of the bible is deemed good. It is obviously wasted time for any muslim to even read the Bible. I have never ever seen a comparative study Quran-Bible made by a muslim although many such studies, very thorough, have been produced by Christians.

What did arab scholars do with greek philosopher ? What did european scholars do with greek philosophers ? The outcome was very different. The bottom of their problem is ISLAM, which is a TOTALITARIAN ideology (of which religion is a small part, but as BAD as the whole). Arabs write from right to left but their numbers are written same order as in english ( after all, we use their numbers), what this guy means by zeros to the left is like this ( 00000000100) is still ( 100) as zeros to the left of any number have no value in integers

@123flippany . In my opinion the answer is YES. The speaker has 2 big protections:
1- He IS ARAB himself,
AND
2- He never criticizes Islam.
On the contrary he shows all the signs of a good believer and I think he IS actually a good muslim believer. Therefore it is even more funny to see such an excellent view of most real Arab shortcomings WITHOUT in any way being mentally able to identify the ONLY BOTTOMLINE CULPIT: ISLAM.

Arabs did not discover or create the number zero that's a big lie the Hindus were using it long before the arabs. The Indus valley Civilization (about 7000 - 5000 years ago) were active traders with the Sumerian and Egyptian empires. Zero was invented by them to keep track of their trade. It was called "Shunya" by the proto-Sanskrit speaking people. Arabs imported this concept circa 1000AD, along with Hindu decimal place addition. It was exported to the West around the 12th to 13th centuries.

OK guys. Let me declare something. I used to hear all the time that Alkhawarizmi invented zero, but after this debate of replies I realized that zero was first invented by an Indian mathematician, but I still insist that the word zero is originally Arabic, and I have 0% doubt of this fact. "Zero" comes from the Arabic word "صفر" which means: Yellow, and the connection between yellow & zero is the Arabic idiom "with yellow palms" which means "broke"

Zero was invented by the Muslim Mathematician Al-Khawarizmi (Algorithm).
The term zero or cypher is derived from the Arabic word "sifr".
"sifr" is the word we use to say zero, but it literally means: yellow.
"Yellow handed" is a common expression used in Arabic that means: empty handed or broke, and that proves the Arabic origin of this word. صفر = zero
صفر اليدين = empty handed or broke.

I agree that Indians gave Algorithm hints about inventing zero, but their idea was different from what is used today.
If we said that Al-Khawarizmi didn't invent the zero, we would also say that Columbus didn't discover America because Indians lived in America before his great-grandfathers birth !

@volgaize Aryabhatta invented the zero (not exactly invented but put it into the form that we currently use). He even gave the modern trigonometry, calculus, rejected pi, etc. Read about him to know more. Persians were the recipients of mathematics from India.

@volgaize You and me were not there at the time of the zero invention. I am a mathematician but knows only what is reported on the dozens of sites regarding the origin of zero. It seems that the actual inventors were the Indians. The main point would be to know whether they passed it on to the Arabs or not. In that case the Arabs would have reinvented it and why not?
