  • I been flying for ever and haven't seen service like this forever! nothing but 10% juice and ugly women

  • The air hostesses are all lovely - Irish women are a God's gift to men - but the one at 3:00 is HOT!

  • women were prettier back then

  • And to think today a cheap narrow-body like the a321 easily measures up with this once marvel of technology in terms of passengers and range. Then it beats it in terms of efficiency, noise, ride, maneuverability...

My god those old super noisy and very dirty jet engines... yeesh

  • lovely noisy

  • Everyone loves the 707. The sound of the engines is great. Aer Lingus has also provided excellent, hospitable service. Ryanair, however, is a DISGRACE. Michael O'Leary and his businesses should be AVOIDED at all costs. What a shame to Jesuit education he dipplays. Really just a greasy ex-shopkeeper, who likes to preform foolish stunts for publicity cameras. Simply a rich grinning fool, What's your next stunt O'Leary?

  • @cinneadboy2 Like to trade for America's most recent wealthy buffoon? Please take Donald Trump, absurd combover and all.

  • Okay, the 707 is SO HOT. I'd like to be alone with one...

  • 707... its so beautiful

  • 4:11 Vickers Vanguard! Now that's a rarity.

  • WHY would any decent Irish person fly to Britain in the 1st place ?

  • @indyfan22k Yeah why would they? Decent people got the boat.

  • @laughatpa

No I meant, why would an Irish person want to go to Britain, for what reason ?

  • 2:01 I love how streamlined the 707 looks, especially right after it takes off! Such a great airplane!!!

  • Great Video .. buts lets not forget the remarkable protectionism that existed at that time, not just in Ireland - but also elsewhere in Europe. Aer Lingus had a complete monopoly on flying in and out of Ireland.

I remember when the cheapest return ticket to London from Dublin in 1988 was £250.00 - which is about €1000 in todays money. So lets not have our glasses a little too rose tinted eh?

  • @wolfandcub0070 Ooops! A sensible comment at last! Take care, man. Being so rational may get you into trouble...

  • Lovely. I remember flying alot with Pan am & Lufthansa 707s accross the Atlantic.

In those days, flying was more comfortable & prestigious than today. Even without board entertainment.

  • The good old day of flying, now if you ask for an extra vodka, you get a `who the hell you think you are look` and reported for being a problem. How the world has changed.

  • God look at Dublin airport , only business men and the rich. Now thanks to Mick, everyone can fly. CHEERS MICK !!!

  • @RYANAIR815

yep thanks to good ol' mike any gobshite can now fly to Latvia for a stag night and share a little vomit with them

  • pilot is pilot

  • little did we know that ryanair would fuck that up

  • The narrator's accent is closer to RP than I would normally expect for something Irish. Was that common before the 80's and 90's?

  • :) love Aer lingus :)

  • great great video , I,ve had the pleasure of flying in the 707s when i was a teenager, some central american countries still operate the 707s

  • Aer Lingus Air Hostesses are the best in the world, flying the Shamrock with Pride...makes me so proud to be Irish xxxx

  • when I first heard the engines I thought it was screaming and I forgot no jetways back then damn they were taxing fast lol at 2:49 at the nun now more about 1 million kg a day

  • shame wish Aer Lingus flew to Canada again.

  • great memories of flying in the 707

when flying was a special occasion

and you looked forward to travelling'

not so exciting with todays travel.

how the flying experience has changed

  • the 707 use to be the ruler of the sky before the 747

  • pretty pretty boeing 707...thats what i call research in motion....nice mercedes too...call it rim too !...

  • I agree with the last comment. Great times to fly. Airports are such hostile places now. That's why I mo longer fly.

  • What great times those days..you could walk anywhere, wave at the planes, not have to worry about safety the way we look at these days, and fly gorgeous airplanes..

  • why do flights from ireland go via Shannon? isn't that just a wast of time

  • some go via shannon because the government and aerlingus alike feel that it's important to keep the west of ireland connected and not just dublin..

  • Thank you so much for this great footage of the seven oh. And in the colours of such an exotic airline - Aer Lingus in the 60s, wow.

  • Noses are the same on 707 and 737. They still make that nose today.

  • Nice memories - nice pics of the 1-11s as well.

Take the nose of a 707 and even after 50 odd years it doesn't look dated when it's on the front of a 737.

  • The Aer Lingus 707s were TURBOFAN powered, not turbojet. They operated a fleet of Boeing 707-348Cs which were powered by the Pratt and Whitney JT3D low bypass turbofans. They also operated a three smaller Boeing 720-048s which WERE turbojet powered (Pratt and Whitney JT3C).

Aer Lingus operated (and still operate) into London Heathrow.

  • Thank you so much for sharring,I Like Boeig 707,it's a beautiful plane.

  • So where is all the porno???? Oh, promo. Never mind.

  • @madisonelectronic You wanted leprechaun porno?

  • Great video, thanks for posting! I would not mind to fly like on the move. Swiftly and in style. AerLingus has changed a lot since then, but still prefer AerLingus then Ryanair.

  • Great 707 video- thanks for posting! I've posted a video response above with a BOAC promo video that I uploaded.

  • turbojet engine ....... nice and loud :))))

  • I love old aer lingus footage! It shows that flying used to be glamorous to many. To be in the sky and treated with luxury, was to may peoples likings back then.

  • Yeah and it cost about three weeks pay to fly to London.

  • Now it takes a day salary.

  • was this plane big form the inside? what was its seat arrangement and how many passengers could it seat?

  • 3 by 3 707-320 transcon

  • Superb! I'd rather fly once like that in a lifetime than every day the way flights are now with boring planes, huge queues and no sense of occasion!

  • Oh, yes!! How wise of you! Those were really the glorious days of aviation, in which one could fly from Paris to New York paying the equivalent to 5000 or 6000 dollars of today. How could it be compared to the present days, in which people with no style can board a plane for a few hundred dollars...

  • Yeah, waiting for 3hrs in security, removing our pants and shoes, crammed onto a plane like cattle. Charged $5 for a sandwich and extra for hold baggage, stuck in a seat with 6" of legroom. Yeah, that's advancement.

  • Then again you could go back 100 years and ride a horse across the USA in about 2 months....and have a lot WORSE things to worry about

  • @marmal320 god bless aviation;)

  • @marmal320 then fly bussiness class of first with virgin atlantic

  • @marmal320 i know! It seems like people don't care about comfort anymore when they fly. all they care about is getting a cheap flight. every plane now is essentially an "airbus"--a flying bus--and it's so sad :(

  • @marmal320

    God bless the USA!

  • Airlines don't care about style or good service for that matter. They care about money and that's about it.

  • That cheatline livery....ah...how I would used to associate that with airplanes. And I wonder why airlines back then always painted the nose of the airplane black.

Check out how the plane moves from 1:14 to 1:19. It's bobbing like crazy. I guess Americans like their cars AND planes with very bouncy suspension... LOL

  • To fly from Dublin to London, how many hours does that take?

  • One hour ten minutes is the advertised time.

  • @thibaulthalpern 50 minutes

  • i love the 707

  • Out of interest what airport in London did Aer Lingus use in this video?

  • Besides from DUB to SNN, did EI fly the B707 on other domestic or European routes?

  • The hatch that's being closed at 0:51 is the hatch of a BAC 1-11, not of a Boeing 707.

  • fantastic video!! Thanks for posting!!!

  • This brings back strong memories for me. My uncle, Sean J White went with his family to New York for three years as the Bord Failte representaive, possibly about 1969, and seeing these pictures recalls the exact same view we had of their Aer Lingus B707 on the tarmac from the balcony of the old airport building. Other times, me land! Other times.

  • "London to Dublin has become a bus ride." How true since Ryanair practically dominate this route. BTW, what has happened to the old Dublin terminal? Was it razed to make room for DUB's expansion?

  • No.. It's a listed building and can't be demolished. Development is going on all around it though!

  • @Jeteaime65 t's still there. You pass it on your way to Pier D

  • In 1968, Aer Lingus made a documentary for cinema release called "Shamrock Sky High". I wonder was this taken from that film. Lovely stuff to see as that was the time I first started taking an interest in aircraft and flying.

I notice that they made sure they didn't show any of their Viscounts - which would have been looked on as a bit old fashioned by then.

  • Absolutely great video! I'm curious: 04:23 to 04:27 , is that Irish? I love the sound of it! And what is she saying?

  • Thanks for comment

Yes that is Irish she is speaking

    Roughly translates as

"it is a cause of happiness to Aer Lingus that you were on board with us, God bless you"

  • @tecmovie

is that an online translation ?

  • Aer Lingus value people and service to people............that may have been true in the 1960'S

  • John Travolta Own's a Boeing 707 for himself LOL , whats he going to do with all that space isnide :O? But he named the place ,I Love you. Something like that after his death of his son Jett Travolta.

  • LOL, its like Airport 1975 - lots of nuns and stewardesses who like like Karen Black, and who could burst into song at any minute. LOL

  • Crikey the terminal wasn't as busy as it is now and its much cleaner too!

  • back then there was only about 2 flights a week before ryanair came along and made it affordable for the common man

  • the name of the aircraft shown in the video is now the name of one of Aer Lingus A330-200s

  • Best Historic Irish aviation vid I've seen yet!

  • what an awesome video. I know the service isn't as exemplary as this nowadays but Aer Lingus is still a pleasure to travel with.

  • Legendary. How did you get your hands on that?? Thanks for sharing!

  • This is a legand video!

Wish airtravel was like this today!!!

  • cool wish we still flew 2 canada

  • didnt kno we used 2 fly 2 canada, was it a fuel stopover? the aoa on the 707 was mad

  • Aer Lingus used to fly Shannon-Montreal-Chicago from 1966 to 1979 not sure if it was a fuel stop though.

  • no i think it was just one of their destinations i would imagine that a 707 has the range to go to chicago no problem from ireland

  • Brilliant! Aer Lingus is very different airline these days but I still enjoy my fights with them.

  • How times have changed!
