There is no "live" version of Autotune though, but other brands manufacture units similar to Autotune for live applications (such as TC Helicon's products). One last thing: when you actually can hear that there is autotune on a voice it can mean two things: the settings are pushed really hard OR the singer is REALLY not in tune with the scale.

Err... I think the Autotuning process perfects the tune of one's voice, and yet, more often than not, it makes it sound slightly robotic. Similar to a Vocoder, if you like.

@phoenixon99 it was all done post-production(after the show). So, the people in the arena saw the raw performances while the TV viewers saw the auto-tuned versions. Considering that it was post-production, I can't for the life of me figure out why they made the auto-tune use so obvious. But, it was really stupid on their part, and I'm glad they got caught. A talent show should not auto-tune the singers to make it more entertaining.

Let say that Gamu Is siging a C note and its a little flat, autotune with sharpen it to make it a Ptich perfect C note, but by doing this it adds a sound simlar to a Vocoder to the voice because it has to move the note up, making it modulate. A better example is a pitch wheel on a keyboard.

It is strange why they did use autotune in the first place as its a singing contest and these were the auditions and it was the judges picking who went through. Maybe they just wanted to stir things up? Who knows. But trust me, autotune is present in all of these auditions in the video

@marsuse6 Best way to describe how it sounds is it kind of de-naturalises the voice and gives it a robotic sound, some RnB artists use it as an effect such as T-Pain. Just because autotune is present does not mean the person can not sing, if you were singing a D and you wanted to autotune that D to a C, you'd hear it pretty clear as the interval is much longer thus autotune having to shift the note a longer distance.

In this clip it is though, or maybe you think it's natural for a human being to have that weird roboticised tone to their voice without any kind of variation in pitch while she's holding a note.

I think Gamu has a great voice, but they really overdid the autotune IN THIS CLIP. Listen to it again then compare it to a live performance.
