Rule of thumb, if you own a modern computer that was built from 2002 to now, chances are you own a 32-bit HDD, so you might have to purchase a 16-bit HDD to operate old style OSes, such as Windows98 (I made the mistake to dualboot it on a 32-bit HDD and it wiped my computer's drivers to where it couldn't read my HDD, I still had my files on it, but it wouldn't read for nothing)

@christopher21667 I m pretty sure you can use a USB Flash drive... If you do that, it will say something else in the boot windows instead of "Boot From DVD/CD".... still make sure that from another source such as Wikipedia or another YouTube vid...i m not a professional but this is my opinion!

@thenighthawk63 its already partitioned, what do you mean ubuntu will do this for me? it will partition its for a second time? is it possible to undo a partition if that is the case
OK so you can do 1 of two things. If you want to install ubuntu with the partition you made, you can boot up with the cd and select install. Instead of selecting your C: drive to install it to; select the new drive that you made with the partition. The second thing that you could do is something that i recommend. You could go to wubi-installer(DOT)org and download Wubi. This will create a partition for you and install ubuntu on it.
@InfliktionDrums no you don't. i have done it before too just be careful! i did the same thing and installed ubuntu on the wrong partition and over wrote my windows info
SO guys, heres my problem, i have 2 disks on with XP and in the other i installed windows 7, i was expecting to see the DUAL boot screen , so i can select XP for Work or 7 for gaming. But it boots directly to XP. what can i do to get the dual boot screen? TKs
@MrDirtbikemaniac I recently installed windows xp on my windows 7 and I can dual boot as a default windows 7, u have to participate and then search a lot to make a good amd safe dual boot,,, and believe me ive made it by myself, I have not seen any same as the thing I do...im telling you that just to understand how difficult was that I have done... sooo? u still think im a noob?
I have a question i downloaded Wubi installer and everytime i choose Ubuntu when i start my pc it doesn't work just a black screen please someone respond
I cant open my boot menu? My boot menu button is esc but it wont open and i got all my f1- f12 some fast buttons for media playing so they wont work! how to get boot menu open when im useing windows 7 or how to make f1 -f12 buttons normal??
@Deza901 If your talking about when you first start your computer, and you keyborad doesn't respond all the time then follow this. When u boot up, go into BIOS/CMOS Setup, and try to find 'support for Legacy USB devices' (or something like that), and tick/ press yes on it, and that will proebly work. :)

im just curious, why dont you use ubuntu live cd for partitioning (it has also gparted) and why GAG, standard menu of windows should take care aswell or you could use Grub2 ? is it preference or any technical specifications?

thanks for the feedback, but it won´t work for me anyway, i already have 4 partitions. Too bad 2 are factory built-in Windows/PackardBell security, 1 for my system and 1 for my files. I wanted to have another one for XP or Vista to be able to play Fallout 3, but i already found a few tricks to get it working in Win7 :D
@Pengocent Your verdict does not match dual booting. Please attempt next time to consider posting a comment that matches what these videos say. And another thing, please do not post browser verdicts in front of other people, since they will think that their browser may have that add-on, so please consider next time posting something that matches the video that you are watching.
i really love your video but dont wanna like it because my friends on youtube will see it, well i dont want them to see because when i do this i wanna show off and i dont want them to know that this is how i learnt it
I installed Ubuntu and on the dual boot screen I selected Ubuntu and I am brought to a command line. 'grub >' is what it looks like. I tried to type 'boot', but it says i need to load the kernel. I am not familiar with ubuntu command line at all so help would be appreciated
@RetroKingdomrules Should be yes, as long as you haven't installed Linux w/ GRUB on your MBR, or else Windows will wipe GRUB and you can't boot into Linux. If you haven't got GRUB on your MBR, but in a boot partition, you're fine.
@silentwrath1 For windows 7 and XP its pretty much the same process that he did in the computer. You can just install the OS that you want on the partition that you made using GParted or whatever method that you used instead of Linux. And you don't have to reinstall windows, he was just doing that for purposes of demonstration.
hi my laptop crashed and when i try to go into diagnostics it comes up operating system not found and when i try the alt multitap F10 it comes up HDD recovery failed and i try changing the harddrive and the same thing happens please have u any pointers or could some one point me in the right direction its a acer 5738 Thanks

@MarioInATopHat
thanks for the feedback, but it won´t work for me anyway, i already have 4 partitions. Too bad 2 are factory built-in Windows/PackardBell security, 1 for my system and 1 for my files. I wanted to have another one for XP or Vista to be able to play Fallout 3, but i already found a few tricks to get it working in Win7 :D

WARNING: Please download an ISO image of an operating system and burn it to a CD before burning GParted. Why?
What happens if you don't have a CD of an operating system?
You will stay with GParted forever!
(Thumbs up if you agree)

This also works with WINXP.

If you install Ubuntu and you had Windows, when you boot up Grub 2 will be there so no need for other software :D

@Pengocent Your verdict does not match dual booting. Please attempt next time to consider posting a comment that matches what these videos say. And another thing, please do not post browser verdicts in front of other people, since they will think that their browser may have that add-on, so please consider next time posting something that matches the video that you are watching.

I installed Ubuntu and on the dual boot screen I selected Ubuntu and I am brought to a command line. 'grub >' is what it looks like. I tried to type 'boot', but it says i need to load the kernel. I am not familiar with ubuntu command line at all so help would be appreciated

@floriandubois No. You can't run WUBI (WINDOWS Ubuntu Installer) on Mac.

Does this work with WIN7 32 & 64bit?
RetroKingdomrules 10 months ago 39
@RetroKingdomrules Should be yes, as long as you haven't installed Linux w/ GRUB on your MBR, or else Windows will wipe GRUB and you can't boot into Linux. If you haven't got GRUB on your MBR, but in a boot partition, you're fine.

@RetroKingdomrules yep mine is 32 bit and it work PERFECT
but no sound on ubuntu

Can use wubi on mac?
floriandubois 10 months ago
@silentwrath1 For windows 7 and XP its pretty much the same process that he did in the computer. You can just install the OS that you want on the partition that you made using GParted or whatever method that you used instead of Linux. And you don't have to reinstall windows, he was just doing that for purposes of demonstration.
