  • I know John has been through dark stuff in his life. This is a song you sing when you are hopeless. He recognized that in Syd.

  • I'm proud to be the one and only johnsydjimi

  • this song is so brain-damaged

  • @Romchikthelemon i think you mean godly, john thank you for playing this underappreciated floyd song

  • italian-americans do it better

  • very cool.

  • Where's the bass?

    Where are the drums?

  • @Burqua12 john always plays covers wothout the band (at least before he left :S ) like when he plays tiny dancer, or how deep is your love, or his own songs like untitled #3 or your pussy is glued to a building on fire, love that title

  • My favorite musician singing a song of my second favorite musician!!

  • awesome !! :) Syd Barrett would be proud :) LOVE it.

  • except neith of them love you...

  • It cuts off before the climax of the song! :(

  • Pink Floyd wrote "Dogs".

  • NOT AGAAAAAAAAIN

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeah!

  • you're going out of your limits boy! lol

  • Johns the man, due respect to Syd in the 21st century..

  • and the sea isn't green , and i love the queen , and what exactly is a dream ? and what exactly is a joke ? syd is two billions times better on his own than all the punky-pseudo rock-asshole-shit we have today. maybe once rhcp could mean something , today they sucks.

  • tirando a choto.

  • maso...

  • i find that a lot if john's songs written while on herioin seem influenced by syd

  • barret is a million times better than the red hot... together

    That is all

  • that would of been great to see, i wonder how many people there actually knew jugband blues, but he should of finished it "and the sea isn't green and i love the queen and what exactly is a dream and what exactly is a joke" RIP Syd

  • syd barret and jf are kind of alike:S...

  • i agree there anti rock stars oppsydoodles they both didnt like the limelight

  • yes.

  • frusciante sings better than kiedis

  • @the5percent well he has a higher range. but not really any husk.

  • . . . not the whole song though....

  • It's really a great rendition of a great song of a great artist by a great musician

  • why do people care about other people taking drugs? bill hicks knows just what to say about this.

  • Fucking awesome... John Frusciante is awesome... I love him, and he loves Syd, which I love more... so you see...? we're in some sort of love-triangle.

  • Good to know that great musicians like Syd Barrett live on in other great musicians like Frusciante.

  • Except that nobody loves you... so I don't understand how it is a love triangle... jk I love you

  • surprisingly good version, and I think a genuine tribute to Syd's memory. I've read articles where John F. has raved about Syd and early Floyd, which surprised me as I thought anyone outside of the UK. would never have heard of Syd and Piper etc.. Good show.

  • good times, i was there, it was a good show

  • guitar abilities lmao syd was an artist, and like any other artist if he hears it in his head he's going to figure out how to play so don't give me that john's ability is greater b/s

  • I'm assuming you play some guitar, and it's pretty apparent to me that John's guitar parts are much more complex and technically more difficult to play compared to Syd's guitar work. Although experimental and amazing to listen to, Syd noodled with a lot of 12 bar blues and his genious came from his song writing, his creativity, his lyrics, and his rhthym playing (not solos and overly technical guitar). David Gilmour has talked about Syd's guitar abilities before and he's probably in the know.

  • like you knew syd barret, and as if the ppl that thought they knew actually knew him dont give me your bullshit

  • your right we can read or listen all we know we'll never know barret damm shame too i'd to be in his cambridge crowd in the 60's

  • how dare he play this song??? Syd barrett is so much better than him...

  • Who cares about who is "better". John always plays different things he feels like playing because he enjoys the music. He didn't disrespect Syd or the song in any way. Aside from that, I love Syd but as a song writer and player, John is NOT worse than Syd Barret by any stretch. If you compare the two just in terms of guitar abilities alone, John blows him away. Both should be considered extremely innovative musicians.

  • So, I think that john frusciante is a good guitarist, but not enough to confront Barrett ... is a matter of taste, in my opinion this song played by Barrett is more beautiful and more psychedelic ... we can consider Barrett a great musician and innovative high level and john frusciante a good musician and not else

  • I can't think of many popular musicians knowledgeable enough or interested enough in rock history to even think about playing a syd barret song. I know that John is a Syd fan, and playing a song like jugband blues live in a huge arena helps keep a legendary musician's work out there and broadens Syd's fan base. Unless you know anything about John and his music other than this video, I think it's unfiar to call him nothing more than a good musician.

  • maybe you are right...are you a fan of Frusciante?

  • I am defintely a fan of his. I think his work is always very original and always refreshing. I love the early floyd and Syd Barret solo projects too (huge fan). Really when I look at their musical career paths and the work they both have done, I see a lot of parallels between the two. If I had to guess I would say that John would be the kind of musician that Syd would have appreciated. To me they both speak a very similar creative language.

  • Instead I'm a fierce fan of Syd Barrett, and when I saw this song played by an other guitarist I was surprised.he performs well, maybe the chorus is not perfect but he's good. I think that the RHCP are one of the best groups in contemporary music lately is made only for profit and no one has more reason to write good music, abandoning to make banal melodies that, once past fashion,no one listens more.Instead of the songs are indelible barrett, anyone forget about, thanks to shows like this.

  • I see what you're saying. I'm crazy about Syd's music too. I think that John lives music. Really, that doesn't seem like an unreasonable thing to say to me. Very similar to how Syd communicated through his art or his music before he went away. John struggled a great deal with being in a band that is a huge commercial success for a while, but he's managed to overcome that and I think it's just fun to see him enjoy performing and covering a Syd Barret classic.

  • I believe that music should be lived, that is to be a means to spread their feelings, their fears ... the success of john is admirable, probably you are right, its performance has once again live like all Barrett Whenever someone plays a song and I think that is one thing meravigiosa.tutti the best musicians are dead or not playing more, but fortunately born groups like the RHCP who know what the word means "Music".

  • Syd was the song. It's about himself. John Singing it dosent sound right, but a good tribute non the less.

  • Surely, it is an appreciable performance of a song Barrett, Syd relive once again, but it is obvious that Frusciante (which is not good as barrett) makes some mistakes in song and sound.

  • exactly john followed in the footsteps of syd considering his way of thinking up to the point he kicked drugs and thats where the divide is... you see john came back and thus defeated the possibility of him becoming a martyr like syd did when he reclused permanantly

  • Well to be fair to Syd, he had other things going on in his head that were beyond his control (other than drugs). But it's great that John came back and defeated what he was going through. I don't think that was ever really a real possability with Syd. I think both artists are great either way.

  • i think the crowd was too loud and so he didnt finish the song...

  • lol i bet most of the audience didn't know what John was playing in the beginning, Syd Barrett was great

  • his music makes me sidder all over my body, it gives me goosebumps and makes me see the pure beauty in this world. it really makes my eyes fulfill with tears.

  • That was a cover of pink floyds (in the syd barret days) Jugband Blues

  • john eres un idolo de la guitarra

y sid UN GENIO no hay duda

    gran cover

  • great video!

    john is a GODDDD!!

    :)

  • He played this in Melbourne when I went in April! It was the best gig.

  • i love john and syd! great song

  • That was good

  • john sounds a little like syd so its even better. itd be great if the whole rhcp did the only thing together.

  • i was there it was amazing

  • Under the Bridge is a ridiculously loved song, holy shit. must be weird to hear people you have never met connecting with your personal art like that.

  • great video. i have the acoustic version, it's nice to see an electric one

  • Nice Syd tribute but should have done the whole song, complete with kazoos and Salvation Army Band. Still great though.

  • Is there anyway you could email me this clip? i was at the show and this bit was fantastic!
