Bet that commentator making the comment around 1:20 bit his tongue a bit after the conclusion. It would have been stopped if Sakuraba had ever lost control of Galesic's leg.
You are amazing, Sakuraba. You will always be my favorite but please retire and stop being hurt. Teach catch wrestling and pass your mojo to a new generation of fighters. Fights like Manhoef, this, and Smirnovas hurt to watch.
Yes I agree. Even though I'm a fan of the Gracie fighters I truly enjoyed Saku in his prime. There was a short time where he was the best in the world. Now he almost seems "punch drunk" or something. His reactions are slow and he has lost his legs.
peric victory. sak, you are one of the alltime greats. a bigger name than royce gracie, as you provied gjj is not the almighty. please do not take punishment like that anymore
@morrink if you watch it he's always defending himself. He has the leg the entire time and sometimes covers with the right hand, while other times bringing the right back to the leg for the ankle lock. A good ref's gotta know the fighters and the posistions. the entire time Zelg was punching he was in danger and eventually got tapped
@RealTenryuken big differences bro i study jj&judo and studyed greco thats like saying a kimura is the same as a keylock they involve simaliar hand holds but are very different.besides he uses catch wrestling from his pro wrestling career.not bjj.
That was awesome! He took dozens of punches! I agree with whoever said that would have been stopped in the UFC. He was continuously attacking, but UFC refs often have limited vision.
ufc sucks every1 mma fans know it pride was the best and always will be now pride is gone there is something els called dream , they got the techniq ppl they got lenne hardt and they need only more good ppl like sakuraba i hope fedor will come to dream and wanderlei silva etc. shogun. and if ppl think ufc is good thy suck dream is new pride give them more time and they will reach pride his lvl just when pride started unknown!!!!!
@politie210 America is where all the best MMA come to fight, I won't argue that at one point pride fc was the top dog, but If you want to be considered one of the best in the world you have to prove it by fighting in The United States (Aoki). Japanese fighters need to start doing one of two things cutting weight (unless your Minowaman or sakuraba) and start your career in smaller org don't have your first pro fight be against someone with 30 in Dream just cause you have judo black belt.
he should not be fighting anymore at 40 years old, you can tell he has lost a lot of weight in his legs and back, even his arms looked thin compared to his best work 6 years ago.
You have nothing to prove man, we all know who you are a pure Legend!
that was scary... i was seeing a stoppage during those punches. to be honest, i think because it was sakuraba they let it go on longer, which is good.. i mean he pulled off the win even after all that punishment. i'm a huge saku fan, glad to see him win.. but man.. just so close to defeat i though. maybe it'll look different a second time.
i like Guy but after hearing him in this fight. i didn't care as much for him. Bas wouldn't be talking about giving up the leg as Guy did. He'd have known Saku still had something there.
Hahaha, crocodile dundee :D Yeah he's a kiwi I think. I've heard him commentate here in NZ years ago on several of our meager little boxing comps... I never imagined I'd hear him screaming "goodnight irene!!!" to a Sakuraba submission.
He also refers to knockout punches as "the bosh kabosh!"
i bet the ref was very close to stopping the fight, in fact i think 90% of other people would have stopped the fight if they were reffing the fight, but it was a good decision to let it go on. awesome fight
I have seen a few of saku's latest fights and its like he s gotten hit so many time he actually only feels 50 percent of the hits he takes to the head
Chuck//Yes, he wasn't "defending" himself, that's because he was ATTACKING the guy. He had one submission locked in and was yanking on it. This way, he transitioned into some other submission when opportunity arose and won. And look, little hammerfists and punches w/o your hips(and your leg twisted back) on the ground do not generate that much power.(unless you're Lesnar with brutal 2-inch hammerfists)
Is it just me, or does the color and lighting in this video make it look as if you're watching footage from a next-gen video game? I swear, it's trippy if you imagine that and watch the video with that in mind!
unreal display of heart and coolness under pressure! You can see the knee pop if you look closely. Plus the guys face expression says it all. sick sick fight! Props to both men.
wow! nice! i think ref should of stopped it he wasnt defending himself for a while but that leg lock was amazing yeah hes a hero to japanise people haha
Congratulations Master Sakuraba. Thinking while taking those heavy hits isnt easy.
