  • Hi, Keith, do you happen to know the name of the movement at 0:46 after the thrust, where you spin the jian into a cut?

  • Nice long xing!

  • Interesting form. Can you tell me which style is it ?

  • @WahrerDrache Northern Shaolin

  • @keithmc1975

Yeah Ive read it. But Northern Shaolin is a very wide field. Northern Chang Quan or what style in general ? For example from what mostly is called Northern Shaolin I only know San Cai Jian.

  • @WahrerDrache Sorry I wasn't trying to be a smartass or anything. That was the short answer. I will try to answer your question the best of my ability...As I am sure you know Shaolin in many styles rolled up into one; Northern Shaolin has many examples of what some would recognize as Crane, Dragon, Monkey etc. But we do not (at least at my school) specialize in any one style. The forms we do are traditional forms (1000+ years old) and encompass many different techniques.

  • @WahrerDrache I can not therefore say whether it is a crane style or dragon because the sword forms we do has techniques from both styles in it. If you're holding a gun to my head I would say Dragon Style primarily because the bulk of the techniques are dragon style. Now as for the Northern Chang Quan...Chang Quan or longfist is simply how the moves are done. Chang Quan means external, meaning the power from the movement is derived from an external source (ie, muscles, stances, etc)

  • @WahrerDrache Nei Jing or internal martial arts like Tai Chi and some may say Akido derive their power from internal sources (ie. Chi) In shaolin your start with Chang Quan and you slowly move into Nei Jing. And as far as your San Cai Jian; as far as I can tell that is the name of a sword form. Jian I know is chinese name for the straight sword. That's about all I can say about the subject. And by no means is to be considered fact.

Thats an long answer :-) Where can I learn this style ?Thanks

  • @WahrerDrache I don't know. Where are you right now? Have you checked the yellow pages?

  • @StirFriedHam I appreciate the retraction. I am glad to see you have choosen the gates of heaven; as buddha would say. I wish only to see the form your classmate does; it is only fair that I should see it rather then simply hear about it. And given today's technology it should be a relatively simply affair. Let me know when it is up. Also; keep in mind this video is almost two years old. I also have others forms up if you'd like to critque them as well.

  • Thank you for your interest. I appreciate all your comments. I think it would be most helpful if you were to show me one of your forms so I can how Kung Fu is done properly. Anyone named Stirfriedham must be a venerable wizard with a sword. So send me the link I I will for sure check out your forms. Can't wait really.

  • i would say its a boring form beacuse u do it to slow but at the same time u still do it good just need to keep the power in ur hits but pick the pase up Northen is truly the best though lol and straight sword forms are not easy

  • that is. If you have any to speak of.

  • its gd but not practical lol

if the guy stuck his leg up surely it wud jus get chopped of ha

  • The sword first hooks the blade of the opponent and then the kick is meant to strike the inside of the leg and break your opponents structure before bringing the pummel down on top of the head. That is the application. I am pretty sure that is visible in the form. ALso, forms are not meant to be practical, they are meant to be representations of several practical combinations. A form is meant to be learned and then broken down into its components and understood. Thx for the comment.

  • Wonderful form
