That Miami team had amazing talent. Moss, Wayne, and Andre Johnson I think was the #3 receiver. Can't forget about Clinton Portis as a backup. Ed Reed, Vince Wilfork, and I know I'm missing a bunch of guys. Crazy.
@okcboi ummm, because they were better than Miami in 2000. Huskies finished #3 in the country in 2000, and really shouldve been #2, since Miami was #2 and they had identical records (both 11-1). hell, Miami had a desperate comeback to make the final score respectable, Washington was crushing Miami midway through the 3rd.
Actually, I should slightly amend what I replied earlier. I don't know for certain that the Huskies had the best team in 1-A in1984. I DO believe that they had a better team than BYU had, however. Had the current "BCS" system been in place then, I would CERTAINLY have entertained thoughts of putting the Huskies in the national championship game before I would have EVER entertained thoughts of putting the BYU Cougars in it. Those are my feelings on the matter and I'm sticking with them.
I don't care whether the Huskies can OFFICIALLY "lay claim" to the 1984 national title, or not. When all you're dealing with is polls and rankings, it's all about perception. Had it been up to me I would have pronounced the Huskies the #1 team in 1984. At the VERY LEAST I would have given BYU a tougher opponent in the Holiday Bowl than 6 - 5 Michigan (quite possibly "Bo" Schembechler's WORST Wolverine team, ever). You, and history, can say what you want to. For me, the 1984 Dawgs were the best.
Oh, really. What was UCLA's record last season in "Slick Rick's" first year as head coach, there? 4 - 8. The wins? Over average-at-best Stanford and Tennessee, and over Washington and Washington State, two of THE WORST college football teams in the "FBS" last season. And remember that UCLA is "Slick Rick's" alma mater. Rick Neuweasel can coach? What were you smoking when you typed that?
Who says I can't claim they were the best team in 1984? Completely within reason. 5-loss Arizona beat 2-loss BYU in their bowl game after this last season, so why is it so hard to believe that a one-loss Pac-10 team in 1984 wouldn't have been able to beat unbeaten BYU? They weren't given the chance, so all I have is my opinion, but on that point I will ALWAYS believe that, given the chance, the 1984 Huskies would've beaten BYU, no question about it!!
man the Huskies they were the team of decade in the 90's but I don't know if that's ture because they only won National Champsonship in 90 and 91 but that's good
the Huskies can lay claim to a championship in 1990, but they weren't chosen by any major polls. IMO, nor should they have been chosen since they lost to Colorado who was the champ that year.
The Huskies can also lay claim to 1960, 1984, but only 1960 of the 3 is rationally arguable. 1984 is controversial, but unarguable.
Like f*ck it's not "arguable." Just because a team finishes unbeaten does NOT necessarily mean that that team is the best. I have NO DOUBT that the Husky football team of 1984 would have kicked BYU's *ss, no question about it. Unfortunately they didn't get the opportunity. I don't care what you, or anybody else, says on the matter, the 1984 Washington Huskies would have CRUSHED BYU that year. Easy as pie.
That's got nothing to do with anything (though I agree that the uniform changes the Dawgs have gone through over the last decade have largely sucked). Here's what's relevant: the Huskies have had four head coaches (the fifth hasn't yet coached his first game for the Dawgs) since legendary Don James retired, and the it's arguable the best one among them was Rick Neu-weasel. When Rick Neuweasel's the best head coach your team has had over the last 15 years, that spells trouble.
Miami had a ridiculous team that year. but UW was better.

They wore them from 2000-2003 , 4 straight bcs games.

It seems they have changed them frequently (Miami's uniforms) .
The good thing is the Huskies are kinda going back to their 80's style of uniforms.
