@edmas17 your funny. Its the name that was given to celebrate the birth of christ, which IS in the bible. The word Catholic, isnt in the bible either, these names evolved with time. Catholic meaning universial church (for all people). The word Pope isnt in the bible either but Peter was the first Pope.
@edmas17 thats just it, it doesnt get in the way because at this point they arent looked at in that light. eveyone puts up a tree but in saying that who worships the tree? who worships the yuel log or a reef? the answer is nobody really. those sybols hold a particular meaning to pagans but to Christians their decoration for festivity purposes. pagans put lights up to celebrate light but Christians celebrate Christ being the light but its both celebrated using acuall lights in symbolism.
@damienbrennan1 yeah too many people have tunnel vision on the matter and dont want to look from another angle and really dont even make constructive arguments, just quick to judge. thanks!
@edmas17 The first refference to celebrating the birth would be the wise men. if you read from the nativity onward youll see refferences. the 3 wisemen were the first to celebrate and worship and braught gifts at the time of the actual birth itself so yes there is a refference and it started the very day he was born.
YES CHRISTMAS WAS PUT ON A PAGAN DATE? SO WHAT? THESE DATES WERE CHOSEN BY THE CHURCH TO REPLACE THE OLD PAGAN CELEBRATIONS WITH THE NEW TRUE CELEBRATIONS, LIKE CHRISTMAS AND EASTER. GET A LIFE AND LIGHTEN UP, HAPPY CHRISTMAS! MAY JESUS TEACH YOU TO LOVE AND NOT TO JUDGE! JESUS LOVES CHILDREN! AND JESUS IS HAPPY WE CELEBRATE HIS BIRTHDAY AS LONG AS WE REMEMBER THAT IS WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT!
@damienbrennan1 true, just because the catholic church placed Christmas holiday during the time of the solstice doesnt mean its not real. Christ may have been born in the spring but he was still born non the less and thats what celebration is about! the pagans celebrate solstice and the Christians(key word is Christ)celebrate Cristmas so Christmas isnt a pagan holiday or even rooted in paganism. its 2 seperate holidays celebrated around the same time although many christians us some pagan means
@dirtyjew1974 Please show me in the Bible where God authorized the use of pagan symbols such as the Christmas tree in our worship of him. If you carefully study about the commandments, the ceremonial law, and the idolatry of Baal and the grove in the Old Testament and Christ's instructions in the New Testament, you will (if you are open to truth) begin to realize that God is very particular concerning the methods used to worship him. We are not free to worship him any way we choose.
@VeryImagesozo it dont say in the bible for people to do that but Christians arent celebrating paganism on Christmas although there are some traditional pagan symbols envolved, Christians are celebrating the birth of Christ. most people Christians included dont even know the history of the tree and the yuel log etc. the just use them as festivities.
@VeryImagesozo God knows mans heart and if we have a christmas tree simply for decoration and we celebrate christmas with Jesus in our minds and hearts, it will not bother him. God is not a dictator with a big stick. If you want to worship God in song, in prayer in dance it is all -good. Where in the bible does it mention protestant religions? where in the bible does it mention that Jesus had a beard? man don't be such a square

@damienbrennan1 historicaly jews did keep beards so thats why Christ is depicted with one. it was only later on that not all jews wore beards.
