the thing people need to understand is .... anette isn't bad ... she's actually a good singer and she does fit in nightwish .. the thing is ... tarja is better and changing tarja for anette was a big mistake... they should have ended nightwish and started a new band, with a new name ... and that would be ok ... because with anette, or without tarja (same thing) there's no NIGHTWISH ;)

@MajinLao Phantom of the opera is not a Nightwish song, but a cover. Why the hell would they choose a song like that for Anette when she's not an opera singer?
IMHO BOTH girls are great but songs also have own styles.This girls also have diffrent styles. I don't like Tarja in covers like"poison" and i don't hear her voice in, for example ,Amaranth. And Anette's voice is shit for "Phantom..." or "Ever dream". Everything is in style.

I really can't stand Anette's voice in Nightwish. Nightwish was created with Tarja, who has an operatic voice. Anette doesn't have an operatic voice and I think Nightwish lost its essence for that. They should have looked for someone who can sing operatic or classically like Tarja. I do like Anette's stage presence though.

Okay seriously guys just stop comparing, Tarja loves being solo she was going to quit after the last album anyway. I think Anette suits Nightwish just as much as Tarja did, and if you dont know this they are having more non-classica singers in the next album if you have problems just talk to Tuomas about it its his project not Tarja's or Anettes
I think the reason the tarja vs anette thing has lasted so long not because anette is bad or tarja is better or whatever, but because of the WAY the band fired tarja... it wasnt exactly a friendly split.... and the fans took sides.... and now the mess is what it is. it's not about who is the better singer, it's about the band firing someone who the fans LOVE/LOVED in the way they did. That was their mistake. IF they had kept the split "friendly" on the outiside, this wouldnt be such controversy.
Whenever Annette is herself, she does great. Like in the chorus latter part "My Love, it lies so deep". And when she doesn't go up a tone with the band in the last chorus, as she tried to mimick Tarja's way before. It just works great right now.
Replacing singers is complicated, we all know. In the beginning, they got to emulate the departed singer instead of put their own style to the songs. But in the end, the replacer style is what define them. I like Annette better now.

My point of view in my poor english. I been in music business for more than 20 years and something that i learn is there are to different way to see the music business and they are the FAN point of view and the professional music business. TARJA is way better singer than Anette but Anette is way more dynamic in stage. For recording TARJA is the choice but for concert Anette is a better choice, but looking in overall and to invest money in a band i will invest with close eyes with TARJA.
@punkraty I beg to differ. I've seen both Anette in concert with NW and Tarja on her solo tour. Tarja has incredible stage presence; she moves very well. That's not to condemn Anette, she did a good job but should stick to her NW and not try to cover Tarja's work, IMHO.
@punkraty Um, Tarja isn't 'WAY' better singer than Anette. I know a ton about singing, and Anette isn't a bad singer at all. While she may not be quite ready to do gigs with a metal band (or wasn't back then), there definitely isn't a lot f'd up in her technique.
Tarja didn't sing that purely on gigs, either. Especially after Century Child her voice started sounding very stuffy and tight.
They are just stylistically different. Neither of them is simply a bad singer.

I've been a Nightwish fan since 1998 and I must say that Anette is way more "consistent" with her interpretation of the NW songs than Tarja - not saying she was a bad singer, not at all; she had some extremely wonderful moments but when singing live she often sounded rather off in my opinion...
@heisenmanFC Tarja doesn't live as on a CD. She sounds different. Renember End of an era? Tarja sounds more operatic than on the CD. What's with Still of the night, Falling awake, I walk alone and so on? (I know these are songs from her solo career.) She doesn't sound as in a studio because her edited and such things. And renember: A singer in a concert can't sound the same as in a studio because there aren't possibilities for that.

Thinking that Nightwish WAS my favourite band ever.... they're dead. And listening to their new sound is simply painfull. I even tried to go to one of their concerts... well, I paid to listen to 2 songs because I simply couldn't stand it. It's sad but... bye bye Nightwish. :/

You aren't the only one. I as well tried to listen to them, I went to a concert with Anette, I just couldn't stand it. The feeling of the band being dead and listening to their sound is painful, exactly as you've put it. I cried as Tarja cried during her press conference, when she was kicked out. My one and only dream is that somehow Nightwish and Tarja could repair their bonds, and reunite. Highly unlikely, but I can hope. Marco's voice is amazing btw, so perfect.

I honestly dont think that Tarja and Nightwish will ever reunite again. What happen was too serious. The truth is that the band simply showed not to have any respect for Tarja having in mind the way they kicked her out. It wasn't only disrespectfull but non-professional as well! Ok, I believe that when something goes wrong within any sort of "relationship" both parts are to blame but still... this was indecent.
I think Tarja will reunite with Nightwish eventually. Most big bands have egos, but later on they reunite but still hate one another. Van Halen with Roth, Deep Purple with Gillan.
As well as I don't believe everything that's written on that letter and the book. There are several things that make no sence and I think that Tuomas and the band weren't the saints they clame to be. Remember that incident in Mexico when a fan atacked Tarja on stage They did nothing, nothing! They keept on playing like nothing happen!! This shows what? That something very wrong actually was happening within the band already by that time and this was 2000! And this is only ONE exemple.
They didn't even talk to her about the problems they had with her before they wrote the letter to her. You are write, very indecent. Wow really? I didn't even know that happened in Mexico.

I don't think I'll ever get bored of Anette's old NW song interpretations, or her quirky sense of style. She's being her self, and that's what's so awesome about her. How people can hate her is baffling.
I totally agree... Marco, Tuomas, Emmpu, Juka and Anette!! all together as a group. Maybe there are songs that Anette does not sing as we would like to, or maybe different,but she has her own style and she has improved a lot, some old songs sound really good on her voice and the best for me is that those old songs are still there, for us... to enjoy them. Tuomas is a God of music!!!

Okay seriously guys just stop comparing, Tarja loves being solo she was going to quit after the last album anyway. I think Anette suits Nightwish just as much as Tarja did, and if you dont know this they are having more non-classica singers in the next album if you have problems just talk to Tuomas about it its his project not Tarja's or Anettes

I think the reason the tarja vs anette thing has lasted so long not because anette is bad or tarja is better or whatever, but because of the WAY the band fired tarja... it wasnt exactly a friendly split.... and the fans took sides.... and now the mess is what it is. it's not about who is the better singer, it's about the band firing someone who the fans LOVE/LOVED in the way they did. That was their mistake. IF they had kept the split "friendly" on the outiside, this wouldnt be such controversy.

Whenever Annette is herself, she does great. Like in the chorus latter part "My Love, it lies so deep". And when she doesn't go up a tone with the band in the last chorus, as she tried to mimick Tarja's way before. It just works great right now.
Replacing singers is complicated, we all know. In the beginning, they got to emulate the departed singer instead of put their own style to the songs. But in the end, the replacer style is what define them. I like Annette better now.

My point of view in my poor english. I been in music business for more than 20 years and something that i learn is there are to different way to see the music business and they are the FAN point of view and the professional music business. TARJA is way better singer than Anette but Anette is way more dynamic in stage. For recording TARJA is the choice but for concert Anette is a better choice, but looking in overall and to invest money in a band i will invest with close eyes with TARJA.

@punkraty I beg to differ. I've seen both Anette in concert with NW and Tarja on her solo tour. Tarja has incredible stage presence; she moves very well. That's not to condemn Anette, she did a good job but should stick to her NW and not try to cover Tarja's work, IMHO.

@punkraty Um, Tarja isn't 'WAY' better singer than Anette. I know a ton about singing, and Anette isn't a bad singer at all. While she may not be quite ready to do gigs with a metal band (or wasn't back then), there definitely isn't a lot f'd up in her technique.
Tarja didn't sing that purely on gigs, either. Especially after Century Child her voice started sounding very stuffy and tight.
They are just stylistically different. Neither of them is simply a bad singer.

Bruce Dickinson is also true vocalist and only voice of Iron Maiden(not Bayley,not Dianno),and when he was out of the band he recorded his solo stuff.

@jacktatter1234 Actually Tarja is doing quite well. She is doing what she loves and so is Nightwish. So, why keep up all the negative bs. Nightwish with Tarja left us some pretty amazing music. Even if people don't like Anette's style it doesn't make them any less a Nightwish fan. It's just a different Nightwish and if they choose not to listen, why insult them for it? It isn't like it really matters in your every day life.

I've been a Nightwish fan since 1998 and I must say that Anette is way more "consistent" with her interpretation of the NW songs than Tarja - not saying she was a bad singer, not at all; she had some extremely wonderful moments but when singing live she often sounded rather off in my opinion...

@heisenmanFC Tarja doesn't live as on a CD. She sounds different. Renember End of an era? Tarja sounds more operatic than on the CD. What's with Still of the night, Falling awake, I walk alone and so on? (I know these are songs from her solo career.) She doesn't sound as in a studio because her edited and such things. And renember: A singer in a concert can't sound the same as in a studio because there aren't possibilities for that.

anette's voice isn't bad in general, this song just does not do good things for her voice...the entire time she sounds like she's struggling to match the intensity of the song... it feels like this song in particular was MEANT for tarja's voice. pure magic.

nightwish paso de una diva ( tarja turunen ) a una oportunista ( la destalentada de anette olzon ) ... apenas con dos años y medio con nightwish ... ya tiene represente , colaboraciones con otras bandas.. y por si fuera poco ya asta esta por grabar un disco solita .... a mi me parece que en cualquier momento se larga la tipa ... pero eso le pasa a thoumas por por quitarle las alas a un angel y darselas a todo un alacran

pues se ha aprendido todo el repertorio de temas clásicos y se nota que ha entrenado la voz pq las canta mejor, sino le importara pasaría olímpicamente...colabora con otros cantantes y???? será por algo....no creo ke si no tuviera talento la llamaran. además eso es bueno para nightwish, que llamen a su cantante. y el disco en solitario, es que no puede compaginarlo con nightwish????

Thinking that Nightwish WAS my favourite band ever.... they're dead. And listening to their new sound is simply painfull. I even tried to go to one of their concerts... well, I paid to listen to 2 songs because I simply couldn't stand it. It's sad but... bye bye Nightwish. :/

You aren't the only one. I as well tried to listen to them, I went to a concert with Anette, I just couldn't stand it. The feeling of the band being dead and listening to their sound is painful, exactly as you've put it. I cried as Tarja cried during her press conference, when she was kicked out. My one and only dream is that somehow Nightwish and Tarja could repair their bonds, and reunite. Highly unlikely, but I can hope. Marco's voice is amazing btw, so perfect.

I honestly dont think that Tarja and Nightwish will ever reunite again. What happen was too serious. The truth is that the band simply showed not to have any respect for Tarja having in mind the way they kicked her out. It wasn't only disrespectfull but non-professional as well! Ok, I believe that when something goes wrong within any sort of "relationship" both parts are to blame but still... this was indecent.

I think Tarja will reunite with Nightwish eventually. Most big bands have egos, but later on they reunite but still hate one another. Van Halen with Roth, Deep Purple with Gillan.

As well as I don't believe everything that's written on that letter and the book. There are several things that make no sence and I think that Tuomas and the band weren't the saints they clame to be. Remember that incident in Mexico when a fan atacked Tarja on stage They did nothing, nothing! They keept on playing like nothing happen!! This shows what? That something very wrong actually was happening within the band already by that time and this was 2000! And this is only ONE exemple.

I totally agree... Marco, Tuomas, Emmpu, Juka and Anette!! all together as a group. Maybe there are songs that Anette does not sing as we would like to, or maybe different,but she has her own style and she has improved a lot, some old songs sound really good on her voice and the best for me is that those old songs are still there, for us... to enjoy them. Tuomas is a God of music!!!
