Another nice method of demonstrating how coping is done, but I believe using the coping saw is still faster as it only cut the profile line and not have to sand the much material out.
Well if nothing more after 5 days of doing crown this way you ll have forearms like popeye. Hey I have a jackhammer for sale, that or you could maybe try having a friend hold the joint under the tire of a car and do a brakestand on it,
If it works for you that's great! I couldn't nor wouldn't due to the amount of dust involved with removing that much material with a sander disk. I have great success with a jig saw and I use dust extraction at the tool.
that did take a long time. well your method of using a grinder still saves your arm if you're coping 5 1/4 + poplar, i prefer to use the jig-cope method. much quicker! in fact i used the jig saw on the 10" poplar base i did in a house today.
huh, cool thanks. i have both the bosch 1590 and 1591. ive always done it by hand without the use of guides or special attachments. but i will look into it.
thats cool dude , but dang.. i could of coped 3 boards and mitered probablly 6 in the time it took you to do all that ... and my joints are paper thin tight
i see....and your prolly right.. however no trim carpenters here in TEXAS cope .. pretty miter EVERYTHING ... but i know its diff all thrue the U.S....It seems like all the carpenters cope up north ... my uncle lives in IOWA.. and he swears by it ..
Actually more and more professionals are using a grinder to cope along with other tools like the Collin's Coping Foot which is an attachment for a jig saw. The really advantage is that if you have to cope many large joints all day the grinder is far less fatiguing then using a coping saw.
With a little practice you can get very good at using one.
Is a grinder spinning at 12,000 - 13,000 rpm a little more dangerous than using a cope or jig saw..? just thinking of diy's that may watch your vid and try this method. other than that, really like your thinking outside the box for finding new methods to doing things..
easier on the arms terrible for the ears and lungs

platinumber,
I also use the Collins Coping foot and have so for a long time. It's an excellent tool.

Started out a lazy idea... then realized it takes way longer that just using a coping saw!

Given an improvment to the type of wheel used make a replacment to the round file. Not the jig, scroll or coping saw.
