  • Check out my cover of the classic bourree on Bass on my channel !

  • The only possible superiority is that Bach was not from Canada. This is an irredeemable failing in Bach.

  • @nequillim The fuck are you talking about? Bach was an extremely accomplished soprano at an early age and has more talent in his pinkie nail than Justin Bieber has in his entire body. Just because they both compose different type of music, doesn't mean they are on equal footing in their own way.

  • @nequillim We are not hating him, we are just stating the fact that, yes, he can sing--but not very well. He can dance--by copying dance steps from other dancers. Okay, he is not gay--he just said that to gain publicity. His "Baby" made many views because "baby" is a very common word that does not necessarily mean viewers are searching for the song itself--it just so happened that it has a relation to the other videos of babies. He has a handsome face, that is not talent. I hope you understand

  • @nequillim bach composed around 1127 works, and as a composer of high lvl he would probably voice train, and finally its called ball room dancing which bach did do. justin beiber USED to have the most dislikes on youtube and now he doesnt even have that anymore. yup. superior.

  • @nequillim im sorry but exactly which part of that has to do with Bourree by Bach?

  • Great interpreter of Bach

  • This is very good indeed....but nowhere near as good as the version by Jethro Tull.

  • @heehawluck1 jethro tull play a different bouree, from a Lute Suite.

  • @simonmitternacht that may be........but it's still nowhere as good as Tull's.

  • @heehawluck1 well that could be debated I think ;)

Both are Bach anyway, that's where the true genius lies...

  • I can play it just like him, when i´m bourree. (don´t you?)

  • im amazed at the sound quality of this for being nearly 50 years old

  • I found it! After so many years, I finally found the piece played on Encarta for the music game! And all it required was that I started learning cello.

  • omg he's young when he's playing that!

  • oh great joy, thank you for posting this.

  • 33 people play the violin and can't handle this epicness

  • who dislike this video vry sucks

  • oh no, he died.. :(

    R.I.P magic man

  • I like this video. Thank you for your sharing. Hope to see next your video.

  • It's Amazing! I can't say anything else.

  • Merci Slava pour tout la musique et tes engagements!

  • please help me music people...im doing a project on this piece for my Music Appreciation class....What is the volume? What is the source of the sound? Identify the meter or describe the flow of the music, including tempo? Is this consonant or dissonant? Monophonic, Homophonic, Polyphonic? Describe the themes or motives, if any? What types of scale(s) are being used? What is the form or structureof this particular piece? Is this program or absoulute music, sacred or secular, classical or romantic

  • @holenone91 neither classical nor romantic

  • @holenone91 you are asking to DO your homework, not help you out with it. Do your research brother, you wont get too far with that kind of attitude in college.

  • @holenone91 it is not classical or romantic, it is baroque, and is monophonic

  • @holenone91 :))))))))) what a waste of time....

  • @holenone91

Hi, holeone91, I think you forgot the letter a.s.s. in front of your alias - cheers, remimonteverdi

  • @holenone91 That's why it is called 'homework'. If I were you, I'd ask a classmate or a tutor to help. I don't know if you're in college, but asking for help from the professor is the reason we pay a ridiculous amount of money. Good luck.

  • perfect Bach !!

  • Great Music youtube.com/watch?v=2i3Ua1gQLmQ

    Great Music youtube.com/watch?v=2i3Ua1gQLmQ

  • i like my own interpretation so much that i can't listen to anyone elses haha. This is the first time this phenomonon has ever occurred in my life lololol

Probably because everyone else dances this in 4 but i dance the bow in 2.

How are Bourrees supposed to be played? (hell if i care, but still...)

  • woah hes young in this video

  • Hehe... it was only recently that I learned that this was originally composed for the Cello (or was it?), because I have been playing it on the Violin...

  • I love this song- I annoy people by humming it all the time. I love the way the beginning notes are staccato, and how he plays the three strings at once. Does he momorize his music? I know it's easier to play in tune and rythem if you can look away from your music for a while. This is a fun song, even though I can only play to the repeat.

  • une super belle mélodie, jouée de main de maître

et transcrite aussi pour la guitare, super agréable à jouer !

  • so Bach~

  • This is quite lovely Luke!

  • I love playing this on my trombone. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • i adore the careful, clean way he plays. and he does it with all the sweetest emotion

  • beautifull

  • I love this song. I love to whistle it sometimes.

  • Hey Bryce, it's Shane

  • Manifold1 I'll say it again as you are confused.

The Violin family has 4 strings tuned in 5ths. All have a rounded back.

The Viol family have 6 strings tuned in 3rd's and 4th's with gut FRETS! They all have flat backs. This family of instruments was superseded in the first part of the 18thC by the more powerful Violin family.

There are two types of Double Bass. Some have a flat back and some rounded, but both are considered members of the violin family even though they are all tuned in 4ths.

  • It's funny ! Because "bourrée" In french means "Drunk" Is it drunk ? Yes you know when someones drink too much alcoohol. So the sentence "Rostropovich plays bach bourrée" Means Rostropovich plays bach when he is drunk lol.

  • it means drunk because the bourrée was a dance that they did in france after the grape harvest, it's in 2/4 with an accent on every bar. They did this dance "jumping" on the grapes, you know

  • Oh it really means drunk ? LoL I thank it was just a coincidence (I don't know if you say like that in english sorry im french)

  • don't worry i'm italian! well yes, I remember that bourrée means drunk, I'm quiete sure about this, but I'm completely sure about the dance of the grape harvesting! They made a big accent every 2 beats becouse of their jumping on the grapes

  • More like Rostropovich plays "Bach is drunk" (Bach's bourrée).

  • @Taquilou wow that is a really stupid remark it might mean "Drunk" in french but in music terms it means a "dance" >.>

  • @Taquilou fun! "bourrée" name= dance (often folk dance in Auvergne) - here, this sense (bourrée , adjectif= drunk woman)

  • @Taquilou still sounds good

  • What are u talking? its an old bass guitar with stick

  • Well, technically it's called a Violincello, because it branched off of the Viol. Same with Violins and Violas. The double bass is more closely related to the piano.

  • originally named the viola de gamba

  • "Ferndawg2012"

You are wrong. The Viol family was a totally separate family of instruments. Viol's have 6 strings and are tuned in 3rds & 4th's, unlike the Violin family which have 4 strings tuned in 5th's. Of course you are joking about the Double Bass being closer to the piano!!!

  • What I was saying was that they branched off of that family....and yes, I was actually joking about the double bass, like most of the other posters.

  • Yeah, I liked your joke about the Double Bass but Im saying that the Viol family was always a separate family of instruments that co-existed together up until the early 18thC. The Viol family became obsolete by the 1750s or so whilst the Violin family of instruments obviously continued to develop to what we have today.

  • Oh...then I wonder what my Orchestra teacher was smoking last year...lol

  • thats not a flute its a Basketball o.o

    u dont see?

    BLIND!

  • It's a cow. Listen to what it says = la la la, la, la, la, LA

  • Haha, you guys are all great xDD

  • Hawaiian Bagpipes never sounded so good.

  • damn that dude is a sick viola player

  • You're all talking out your ass, it's clearly a kazoo.

    some people...

  • Glad to se everyone here is full of good cheer! The fact that only one of you can recognize a marimba is pathetic, though.

  • i believe that all of you are wrong. that instrument is clearly a marimba, you can clearly see the metallic string like wood sticks that he is playin with his innovative percussive technique wich made him one of the most famouse glockenspiel players on uranus.

  • Definately a flute! sure look at the keys he's pressing.

  • Well quite clearly you can see that the instrument he is playing is a flute. The design is somewhat avant-garde, but let me explain it to you. The stick is designed for a sort of pneumatic effect, which pushes air through the flute. The two large f's are the air-intakes. Then with his left hand he opens and closes the holes on the flute. I'm sure you'd all agree.

  • @Zale27 what do you mean by flute?

  • @Zale27 your an idiot

  • @Zale27 your an idiot, i play the cello, and watching the vibrato, finger, and bowing all in tandom, that a CELLO

  • @raymondsymes212 he's joking idiot.

  • @Zale27 Similarily, the only proof one needs to 'believe' that Paulaianity(Chrostianity and pigslam) are monotheistic is to notice that people that advertize bible verses on sandwich boards are very high class white trash things. The other proof that western religion(christianity and pigslam) is monotheistic is that the very auspicious catholic church has been violently coercing people to accept their plagiarized 'religion'.

  • @countdumas We're in a religious discussion here? Really? YouTube is ridiculous...

  • @Zale27 thts a cello

  • it's a cello, read the side bar.

  • Its a cello. A cello.

If you wanna be specific a the full name of a cello is a violincello.

I know a cello. That is a cello.

  • I am almost certain that is a bass drum. I t believe without a doubt that Rostropovich was the greatest bass drummist of the 20th century.

  • thats a bassguitar

  • i believe that that instrument he's playing is a cello. u can tell by the sound of it. a violin doesn't sound like tht. NOT trying to imply tht a violin doesn't sound nice. i just don't think that that instrument is a violin.

  • Truely, he was a king amongst men. He will be missed.

  • Gawd, what is wrong with you!

It is IMPOSSIBLE for that to be a violin!

    You guys are stupid retards!

It doesnt even SOUND like a violin!

  • you are right! it cant be compared to a violin..cant they just look how big it is to be called a violin..

  • I was also amused by this idea (with all my respect for the Giant Rostropovich).

  • idiots.

those that sound like a violin?

  • The truth is that he playing the violin. Seems to be a cello, because the artist was very short.

  • Oh, you.

  • thats the most funny thing i ever heard here :-DDDDDDD

  • yeah right! it's funny how they call it a "violin" just because the man playing it was short..LOL

  • I can confirm this. It seems odd, I agree, but this is in fact a Violin being played like a cello by a man of very small stature. My great grandfather Gregory Gregorovich is the cameraman.

  • Are you being sarcastic?

  • I believe he's joking. I don't see any sarcasm in his words. YMMV.

  • Haha! :P

  • shiiit!!! OMG its a cello!!! every body knows that a violin is smaller!! and a cello sound i thousand times better than a violin or a viola!!!

  • omg muy bello jjaja

  • Very Very Good! 5 Stars

  • WOW, thank you : )

  • Omg. That trill in the beginning gave me chills...

  • He has a very masculine-sounding cello. I like it- especially its lower tones.

  • My professor mentioned this guy was short, but Jesus, that violin is damn near as big as he is!

  • Not a violin....

  • Not a violin? Then what the Sam Hell is that outlandish contraption!?

Sure looks like a Texas fiddle to me, I tell you what!

  • Cello much?

  • I laughed so hard when i read this

  • omg why does everyone think that's a violin? It's a cello!!!!!! I mean how can you mistake a cello for a violin?!?!?!!!

  • They are retards

  • jesus i can only manage the first part but after secon 0:38 i just cant. rostropovich sure was talented

  • Touch of a master, sounds just great!!!!!!!!.

  • Treasure!

  • Maestro, this is just perfect.

  • love this song

  • ok....does anyone else notice the harmonics that stick at 0:28 out or is it just me? Other than that it is AMAZING!

  • he was so much younger

  • yeah!

    that impressed me too

  • genial!!

  • PERFECT!!!!

  • He ends his phrases so well. He does everything so well.

  • R.I.P. Rostropovich :(

  • far too cool.

  • cool

  • I just liked the musice

  • Comment removed

  • COurante I agreed with the comment because I dislike snobbish attitudes of any kind. To say Rostropovitch is the all-time greatest ever cellist is by my definition of the word snobbish. I disagree with sweeping un-provable fact. We perhaps one day will hear This person is the best ever at everything. Sounds silly doesnt it? It is precisely because it is un-provable to believe in a Greatest Ever Anything that makes the opinion snobbish and bigoted. What else can the attitude be based on?

  • With all due respect, that is not a very correct argument. The only provable facts are facts relevant to science, Even that can be disproved or adjusted through new discoveries and theories! let alone music, aesthetics and philosophy. The domain of these fields is such that nothing can be proved to be true or false objectively. Beauty is simply a matter of preference, and if one says X is the greatest musician ever , the subjectivitly of the comment is implied therein.

  • 1. What is the domain of philosophy?

    2. There is a difference between knowing-that and knowing-how such that the musician knows how to play beautifully, but it does not reduce to knowledge-that statements (the statements which science requires for "proveability").

  • 3. There is a difference between knowing-that a mathematical proof is logical, and knowing-how a mathematical proof is logical. In the same way as music, there is something about the latter which can not be put into words, but surely is something objective. This is why some mathematical proofs are regarded as beautiful by many mathematicians.

  • beauty is subjective.

  • You are exactly the reason why I am going to dread existential philosophy in college. Gimme political philsophy any day and we'll settle the rest with "it's all relative"

  • Yes, it may be snobbish to claim one man as the "Best" at one thing, but is it not also snobbish to critique a world renound cellist on every detail of his own interpretation of a piece of music? I fail to see why many of you feel such strong resentment against Rostropovich's recording of it. Why can't you just enjoy it? Just because it's not your favorite doesn't make it complete garbage.

  • Regardless, as a classical pianist, i agree that some classical musicians can be very dogmatic and too traditionalist to the point that they cant appreciate the beauty in other forms of music such as jazz, very unfortunate.

  • Redthunder678-You are somewhat correct, but this is greatly exaggerated. Let me also say that this takes nothing from the beauty of the music.

  • Ooh, you MUST be somebody cool.

  • thanks for thumbing it down so i cant even remember what i wrote...wanna refresh my memory?

  • how does that have anything to do with anything? i dont care what you do..

  • Comment removed

  • It is because you make statements like he is the greatest cellist of the 19th C He isnt. Nobody can claim that title. You still dont get the point. NOBODY does everything better than anybody else. What about Casals? My musical opinions are based on objective judgment based on somewhat more experience than yours. I find R one dimensional, toneless and boring, as many others do. The sound recording quality has nothing to do with it either. R was a 20th C cellist by the way.

You can no more say that any one person is the best player than you can single out one piece of music and say that is the best.

How can anyone disagree with this?

  • He is inspired; the only stroking is from the lame commentors below

  • what are you talking about??!!!

  • hahaha you are retarded

  • hyunmyung

I think SUPER MARIO is about your level. I'd best stay there if I was you.

  • I agree with "chainstoking" as regards Rostropovitch. I remember his ludicrous cadenza in an early recording of the Haydn Cello Concerto in C. He somehow looses all sense of tonality. Authenticity aside, this cadenza just plainly didn't work. As for this Bach recording very poor on all counts.

  • i like the first 30 seconds of his playing. can't say the same for the rest of it anyway...

  • Mechanical, toneless, predictable, boring, one dimensional, romantic, tasteless, dated, sickly, inauthentic. Must be Rostropovitch.

  • So your from Finnland?Call: 0037384050473 ask for Dr.J Kevorkian. He will help you.

  • Yup. But there's no tonguing or anything.

  • I like the old him better than he was 4 years ago

  • slightly conservative but nice n crisp~!

  • all the cresindo's and decresindo's if i spelled them right and trills aren't even written in the music it all added except for the notes

  • prodigious!!!!!!!!

  • I play cello. I love it. He has so much emotion when he plays (The sound not nessicerally him).

  • I believe its him. He's played every friggen cello piece every written. I much prefer his interpretation of the music over another genius persay, such as yo-yo ma.

  • the cello is such a heartbreaking, and soulful instrument, the sounds it makes are beautiful

  • That's mainly his fingers, but a high quality cello helps

  • Yes but I think it's also the love and feeling put into the cello when being played - the doggiest cello can make you cry when played by someone who truly loves it.

Maybe it's because we hold it to our hearts when we play?

  • Well... the best heart and passion is nothing without having decent technique on the respective instrument.

  • True they must have technique, but it does not have to be a grand instrument to be able to sound well. I know many people who play crappy instruments (meaning cheap, not the instrument as a whole itself) and make it sound gorgeous. Any instrument has the potential of sounding amazing, it just depends who is behind it.

  • I couldn't agree more. You obviously know what you are talking about. (Of course the instrument needs to be set up properly)

  • Great, master. Your music remains.

  • I think playing such an instrument is very delicate:O

  • It quite is, playing to slow sounds bad, playing to fast makes unwanted overtones.

And indeed a instrument like this isn't played with your mind but with your feeling.
