As for what limits our love for another, there are different levels that can be obtained, depending on the one who you direct your love toward.

Them loving you back, would precipitate your loving them to a much higher level.

Their indifference to your love, will over time, cause you to become hardened toward them.

This hardening toward them, takes a long time in some cases.
