Huh, all the references to what this area reminds people of and yet no mention of Xenogears or Xenosaga... to be perfectly honest, those are the games that come to mind most readily. Of course, it helps that the same guy composed the music for the major Chrono~ and Xeno~ games.

Don't forget that 2300 AD is basically just 1999 AD technology that has been left there to rot and decay. The Dead Sea is a denied future, frozen in place for eternity. What we see here is basically a city as it was during the Lavos apocalypse, stopped in time as it was being ravaged by a tidal wave.

I always loved going through the game just to get to the Dead Sea. This place is so eerie and just creeps me out, plus the whole information of Lavos and it pretty much being 2300 AD..It's insane.
