You got hit by the Bob-Omb because you lost your speed (the Green Shell hit you. At full speed you should be able to escape the blast.

I believe you don't get hit by the explosion from a Bob-Omb if you drag it and it gets hit. I'm not sure though. It is on either MKW or MKDS.

And the TC doesn't work the same as the Star.

TC gives you infinite acceleration, infinite off-road and some extra speed (not very much). So it's not recommended to do some big shortcuts (Mushroom Gorge Gap Jump or Lava shortcut at the Grumble Volcano) with the TC. Just pass it. Only totally utilize it when there is no-one to pass the TC and watch out with the off-road.

I'd group the items in a differently:

Backspam (Defensive): Bananas, Green Shells, FIBs

Boosters: Shrooms, Bullet, Star

Offensive: Bob-Omb, Red Shell, Blue Shell

Special: TC, Shock, POW, Blooper

See, Backspam is used by first. Shells are also part of this. Boosters are you right about, but I won't count TC since you will rather get rid of it than get the shortcut + shock (+ it's not a real booster). Offensive for the items used mainly for attacking other racers. Special for a lower place.

Another thing: Only use mushrooms in air if you low trick a ramp and might not make it to the other side. Then lean back and boost.

Btw tho, if you go over a turbo pad with a thundercloud, I believe it goes away. And also, I think you can get hit by a star and a bullet bill while mega mushroom'd. well actully, I'm certain you can star'd (I did it to you in a Balloon battle once XD)

You can't take shortcuts with the Bullet Bill, so I didn't think it would fit in that group.

I don't think you can only get the bullets if you are in last place. I think you can be in 7th or 6th too.

Yea, I think you're right.

It's really rare, but if you're in 2nd-to-last or maybe even 3rd-to-last you can get one.

Also, do you know how long the Gold Mushroom lasts?

About 7.5 seconds, but if you use the last boost right before the Gold Mushroom disappears, you will get another 1.5 seconds of turbo (so a total of 9 seconds)

A single mushroom gives 1.5 seconds of boost.

A triple mushroom can give up to 4.5 seconds if the uses are spaced.
