Phantom pain is not fun or funny. Believe me it is difficult to understand why your foot or ankle or toe etc, hurts like crazy when its not there. And trying to make logic out of it is even worse. If you really have it you know I am right. If you don't, be glad.
I lost my right leg to diabetes. I had to keep on walking on Charcot Foot, because my wife was sicker than I was. A month after the amputation, she died. My leg was gangrenous, so amputation saved my life, but all alnne, at about 3 AM, I don't see much good. A prosthesis never fits well over the long term.
Yes I am quite sure that is the case. However what I was trying to say was ... its better one lose a limb that die. Simple point.
If I were faced with death and a limb loss or more would save my life it is worth it without question PERIOD! Atleast that is my point of view.
There is a lot to life that can be experienced that a limb loss has no impact on. Although mobility is one thing taken for granted by so many. I cherish the ability to function as I perceive normal to be.
Well I guess I was meaning to say that the technology is getting there. It may not be there yet but it is eventually. Although for some people who's real legs were so messed up an artificial one might actually be better in terms of function and pain reduction.
@tangoseal1 There are no artificial legs that are anywhere near as good as the real thing. For one thing you can't feel anything. You cant feel the sand between your toes in the ocean, you can't get up and go pee in the middle of the night without hopping, crutches or putting a leg on. It isn't as simple as some film clips make it look.
I think what I meant was a decrepit bad functioning leg is not as good as the prosthesis that can replace it giving back better function than one had before. Of course this is subject to the predicament that the person whom lost the leg in the first place was experiencing. That is more in line with what I meant to say.
@Superfreaxx No. From what I have gathered, it feels like you are wearing a ski boot. The media exaggerates the "technology". Most legs are not powered so it requires A LOT of additional energy to use them and they are uncomfortable. There is a powered knee now but it is very expensive and a little big. They make a big deal about things like C legs but it's crap. God and your parents still cannot be beat. Hands are much further behind though I think.
@Superfreaxx No. Not yet. They have just started doing leg transplants though. So far I think it has only been double leg transplants for people missing most of their legs.
@kingofallwhites or their might be something good about it they probably won't feel no Pain if they fell over or probably get kicked in the leg they won't feel nothing at all but I wouldn't know because I still got 2 real legs

Better a leg than an arm agreed and better a limb than a life.
I wouldnt care if lost my leg. Heck prosthetic technologies are getting so profound that some fake legs are better than the real thing.
