  • Is XP running in the background or do I have to click on anything to use the xp work..ie if my printer runs on xp drivers will it work simply by installing the software? or do i have to do something else

  • "andrewjandrewj" wasn't.

  • "What new techology?"

Read up on the Vista kernel changes, security model, and new features. Old apps that do some unsafe 'hackish' things like access undocumented APIs and directly access data structure members held Windows back for a long time, but no longer.

  • Great Explanation! I also think this will be a very good selling point for 7. From what I have tested on the Release Candidate, I didn't really need XP Mode because all my 2000+ apps ran just fine! Anyways, keep up the awesome vids! I just subscribed and sent you a friend invite!

  • Thanks for the kind words. I didn't receive your friend invite though.

  • you got style!

  • I think that it says a little about Microsoft's current position when their biggest "selling point" for Windows 7.... is XP.

Granted given the adoption of Vista to enterprise environments, it'll probably work.

I believe though that it will just let lazy software developers rest on their laurels rather than develop aggressively for new technology.

  • The selling point is not "XP," it's that you get all the new Windows 7 gadgets and security w/ XP applications compatibility. The really significant thing here is that using this sort of virtualization instead of the traditional "XP Compatibility Mode" allows MS to start making major improvements to Windows that they just couldn't do in the past for fear of breaking old apps...

  • How is the winXP mode in windows 7 different from XP mode in Vista?

  • there is no xp mode in vista unless you use vmware or a virtual machine

  • Windows 7 XP mode sets aside a big chunk of memory and boots up a full copy of Windows XP in it. The older XP Compatibility mode simply loosened some restrictions to accomodate older apps. The old method is very limited in it's usefulness because Vista and 7 are extremely different "under the hood" from XP and prior.

  • Bruce, what antivirus do you use? because when I run Kkiller, the kido romover which kaspersky reccomends on their website, crashes with the blue screen of death, I think the worms been updated so kkiller cant romove it, or f-secure cleaner, my specs are Q6700 quad core 2.66ghz, 2gb ram...160gb HDD

or is the blue screen meant to happen?

  • Windows XP needs to be gotten rid of. XP is a big security hazard with lots of security holes. Vista tried to implement better security (UAC), but too easy for average moron users to bypass.

The answer is to run Linux and be far safer.

  • Linux is unusable for most 'morons' without expert help, and driver suport is way too limited.

  • Drivers? I have installed ONE driver in the last 2.5 years of using Linux.

  • Lucky.

  • Let me see, I have Ubuntu Linux installed on FIVE different machines including TWO laptops.

Number of drivers I needed to install on those machines. ZERO.

I must be the luckiest man on earth.

  • Must be.

  • I can see you have near zero knowledge of Linux. Know what you are talking about BEFORE you open your mouth.

If you look, 99% of Windows users buy the OS pre-installed. The average Windows user would not know how to install the OS or drivers as well.

  • Don't bet on that.

Do they also never replace or upgrade hardware?

  • Does the average "moron" even know how to upgrade hardware? Probably not.

Beauty of Linux is all drivers are in the kernel so new hardware just works. As I said I have have only had to install ONE driver in all my Linux days. I am so lucky I should play the lottery.

Can you say the same thing about your Windows installs?

  • Who cares. Shut your smug ass up!

  • Nobody asked for your opinion retard.

  • @stchman What I can say is that I'm lucky that you are probably about 3000 miles away, because you're a moron.

  • @nakedvolleyball Likewise. I prefer it when complete trash talking idiots are as far away as possible. Please do the human race a favor and don't breed. No need for you to pass your inferior genetics to some undeserving child.

  • @stchman I can see that no one cares what you fucking think and you offered your opinion on something where it wasn't needed. So, you're a fucking nut-sucking moron. I mean you would suck nuts, if they were always stuck in your ass.

  • @nakedvolleyball WOW, you just showed your IQ. I wish I could group filth the way you do. What a talent. I guess talking like that has made you such a success. I see you have a fascination with nuts in men's asses.

  • @stchman Riveting.

  • Wouldn't it make more sense for Microsoft to continue to provide XP and not try to kill it off? Then no one has to be concerned with the virtualization process which may well cause additional problems. I'm a firm believer in "if it aint broke dont fix it" and I wish Microsoft would employ this approach. Instead they seem to want people to only go for the latest operating system which may or may not be the best choice available.

  • Yes, that makes sense to a point. MS wants those fat corporate accounts, and I think this is for them. Many companies run software that may not work at all under Win7. So I guess this will give them a warm fuzzy. Also, Microsoft has recently ended mainstream support for XP.

  • is this xp mode going to be in RC released in May? or is it only in the final version

  • I believe it will ship with the final release of Win7.

  • it will b released in RC build
