man, looks good I say. I have a question: I have a Yamaha R6 from 2000. How do you think would look with a tank from a R6 2006 and a tail from yamha r6 2006? or .. combined tail from 2005 and fairing from 2005.. or fairing (bodywork) from 2006 full, on R6-2000 .. what do you think ?
I have newer videos of the bike in a different color scheme. As far as your bike, it's carbureted with a 3 - 5 psi fuel pump and only one fuel line. The 2006 R6 is fuel injected with two fuel lines and a very high PSI fuel pump. You will need to make some sort of a block off plate to cover the tank hole where the 06 fuel pump is and make the plate where you can bolt in a petcock from something else and attach your 2000 R6 fuel pump to it. The 2006 fuel pump will flood your carbs.
Your videos inspired me to do a 2007 R6 full fairing conversion! Check out my video. Doing blue dot conv and possibly an early model.r6 tank on (not a yzf one)
if you go to my main page then I have another video uploaded that shows my subframe and tank brackets. I walk through the basics of what has to be done.
Hey, I wanna know how do you put the r6 tank on the fzr. I have a Fzr 600r ( 1994 ), and I have a r6 tank, I found it in my garage, I have also the stock tank, but it's quite uglier than the r6 one. My question is that: can i do this conversion easy, or it will be a pain in my ass. Can I use the old fzr airbox? or can I put a r6? it's matching the fzr carbs with a r6 airbox. I forgot to say that is a r6 1998 2000 tank model.
@MonicaRidesMoto suzuki bandit rim is a direct swap to fit in the FZR swingarm, and it's a 17 inch rim, easier to find tires for, that's for sure. And the gsxr rim is a 17 inch swap also, but there are issues with the rotor. If you want to look into it there is more info in the FAQ section of fzrarchives. The wheel bearings need to be changed, I think that's it. Very easy swap for a better looking 17 inch tire. And I think you can squeeze a 160 tire between the swingarm, don't quote me tho
Did you raise your tail a bit ? Or you just fit the tail ? Because on the original FZR 600 the tail looks really low, same as the GPZ close to the wheel.
Let me first say that foremost, you have the best FZR on youtube and anywhere else for that matter dude. I'll be getting a '93 FZR 600 in a couple weeks and I had the same exact idea for mine as yours. I was wondering if you could tell me how you go the R6 tail to fit and tank also. An intructional video of what you did would be very appreciated!
i have a 91 fzr 600 also, does this tail section and tank bolt right up or does it need any mods? any help would be great. it gives the fzr a whole different look.
@killergtis yes, its pretty simple to put it on but there are alignment issues with the sprockets. just putting the swingarm on involves grinding the swingarm down to where it slips between the frame. You'll need to get the zx6r front sprocket and change the rear sprocket and chain.
@killergtis the yzf600r years are 97 - 07, the 95/96 model yzf600r are like a weird hybrid of a FZR and a YZF, so ignore those years all together. and the swingarm from 97 - 07 fits all of the years (89 - 99) with the same modifications.
I've seen a guy do it before, but he cut off the whole subframe of the R6 and put it on the YZF600r. That's the only way I've seen it done. But if I could do it to the FZR then I'm sure it can be done to the YZF600r
hey is the yzf front end a direct fit or do you have to do anything cus im getting an fzr600 and i want to do these mods but i want to start out with the easy stuff first that wont cost alot of money or that won be risky.
the YZF front end isn't a direct swap as far as I know, but I haven't actually tried it. My front end looks different because it's a 91/92 FZR600 front end. The R6 tail/tank is very time consuming and can be costly if you don't know how to weld and if you buy new parts. I used wrecked stuff to keep the cost down. Google heath FZR R6, the guy has a good instructional on a 99-02 R6 tail with a 97-07 YZF600R tank
oh that wasn't an R6, it's a YZF600R, and that's just a newer version of the FZR, nothing special except larger carburetors and a special ram air induction setup that the carburetors can handle
it's bigger here than you think..it takes about 3 hours to go around the edge of the island, the south shore is very curvy and is a nice fun cruise, northshore is always nice, but an hour away, there are curvy roads around the different valleys, and one road that is sometimes shut off by military because it's near a base, it is a nice scenic route over the mountain range, kaneohe is nice coming out of the tunnel that goes through the mountain..there's more..I like it
it took about 6 months to switch the tail, because at the same time I was putting on the tank, replacing carburetors with larger ones, rerouting cooling passages for the carbs to fit, custom making the airbox, fixing some electrical problems, and all of this in the little extra time that I actually have after work.
hello could you show mor of what you had to do to do the tank mod I am very interested in doing that one also what other parts can be switched over I have seen an 06 r6 swing arm done before really sick nasty looking
Im curious..and this might help everyone here and whoever watches this......How much does the tail conversion cost total? Including all the parts, tools? And what kind of cowling, undertail, and lights were used? Thanks guys!
all YZF600 parts are gone now, all I have is the swingarm and rear tire, I'm using both of those. Oh I have the rear fender and the front rotors, that's it though. Sorry.
Haha I feel like a newb kaimuki is on Oahu well sir I just happened to come upon your videos and your in hawaii. Awesome but yeah if you do have wheels from your other fzr and willing to sell em or trade up I will be willing to make an offer.
i actually have the rear wheel from my bike, it's still on there, i'm replacing it with a YZF600 swingarm and 160/17 rim/tir soon. The roofing company dumped a crapload of shingles on my bike when they were replacing the shingles on my roof. They are paying for all of the broken pieces and new paintjob. The other bike has dry rotted tires, but its at my parents house anyway, it's not with me.
Oh sweet yeah i'm just trying to replenish my bike since the wheels got wheel paint on em. I wanna take off the wheel and fully strip off the paint and have a aluminum finish on em.
Loving the projects man! Also I was wondering if you are still in hawaii Oahu island that is? If so I was wondering if you had any wheels F&R laying around if so I will purchase them from you or trade you mine plus cash =) Let me know, anyways vids are awesome!
it took a few months, but i had no daylight time to put into it, and figuring out the angle of the tail, also relocating the thermostat. So I dont know. I thought about putting the YZF600 tank on my bike, some plastic on the R6 seat needs to be shaved a little inside to fit around the YZF600 tank, but it would work, just try to get the whole subframe and cut yours off and weld on the tail. You have to find out if the R6 tail is aluminum like the rest of the bike or steel. Your frame is steel.
no, the video says i got an 05 tail, undertail, and light for free and the subframe is a modified FZR subframe, i think the R6 subframe is aluminum, so it won't weld to the FZR frame
man that tail section is dope. I've been looking for custom parts for a yzf600r or atleast find a different seat. how long did it take to weld the R6 seat?
Very good job man. You answered a burning question I've been seeking a answer for! Keep up the good work!
