I now live in essex, hackney was a bit rough in the 70's but it also had a good spirit. london is now ruined with all these bloody gangs. They all need to listen to reggae and chill out. Everyone takes life too serious now
I grew up in hackney in the 70's and there was a lady who lived in a flat above my mum and dads, she was always having parties till all hours. I remember her playing reggae all night. drove my mum and dad mental....... I was only 11, but i can remember dancing in my bedroom all night. amigo is still shit hot to this day
the gabicci you saved forever for on,mk2 cortina you hoped looked like a 1600e,rodigan on the sharp radio drivin to peoples praed st with a crakin girl next to you...few cans of red stripe, peach canei + half bottle of rum in the boot! it was always gonna be ...fanx 4 takin me back where i belong
I just phoned my pal, and he answered 'hey AMIGO'..which, in Scotland, isn't usual AT ALL lol..and I started singing this song, which I haven't thought about or heard in years and years....he said I was making it up, so now I will send him this link....anyway...thanks for posting this...what a great, chilled out, happy tune...it's like musical sunshine :)
There's always the sublime lurking in memories of wonderful songs like this. I was in my mid-20's listening to Black Slate. Love, pure love. A reggae style that conjured up feelings of love, a love that did fly, that was only too aware of its own tenuous existence.
Never did have the 12 inch extended version of this great track. Had to make do with the 7 inch 4 minute single. We had a lot of reggae like this back in the late 70's and early 80's, Aswad, Eddy Grant, Bob Marley, Janet Kay, Third World,..such memories of when I was a teenager. What happened to this style of reggae. Did Rap take over what?
as the late 70's and the 80's where the best of 'pop'music, so the reggae from these years where unnegotiable the best of all times.
unforgettable. bring me back memories of my years as a teenager. that time i only listened to reggae music. stiill had all those vinyl lp's and singles.
Great memories,so many thanx guys-why oh why, was it so much easier for us back in what I call the good days.
Why has it gone so wrong? surely you can help? role models and all that? got to be worth a try! We surely do not want or need riots, looting and the rest-you know we are better than that, cant you help?
MAAAN ALIVE.... THE MEMORIES....28 YEARS AGO...I WAS CHILLIN' WITH ALL MY GANG AND THIS WAS MY SONG......STILL LOVE IT....ALL THESE YEARS LATER :-) THANX FOR UPLOADING IT. BIIIG SMILES
This has to be the highlight of my night, was so shocked to hear this, wat a tune, makes me think of the days of empire road and no problem, uk reggae in the late 70s and 80,s will never be touched or forgotten
But he's actually singing "omigo" rather than amigo. He should say ah-MEE-goh. So "omigo migo migo" would be something like "freend eend eend" (instead of friend end end). It's completely ridiculous.
great times going to see great bands like aswad steele pulse black slate . lots of hazy memories of spliffing up and chillin with my brotheres and mates in london . thank you for the post .god bless
Guided by this tune I man survived 3 weeks down Algarve without money 1981. Robbed and damaged the very first day on my holiday I had to leave my survival to God, and He sent me friends fe help, good friends, amigos. Kind people are everywhere. Amigos!
I never new about Black Slate, I was born in the 70's but I love this song I once knew in a VCD, I like the style. Thanx antiporcass. Saludos desde Acapulco Jamaica!

What's more, it seems he says ombligo (navel).
But great song if you can ignore the lyrics.
