  • I was 15, I was there, and those things were F'kin awsome!

  • Was a weapons expert on the F models at Lakenheath in the 90's. Really miss those jets, and that great country. My second home.

  • You just don't see airshows like this anymore. Now you have each different air craft that have its own demos. Not like the 80's and 90's airshows where you had Capt. john Doe flying from Tyndall AFB with the 1st FS, flying the shit out of an F-15c.

  • IF YOU GUYS COULD SEE WHAT A DUMP THIS BASE HAS BECOME NOW YOU'D WEEP

  • Thank you for the video. I was 20th SPS in '81 - '83. Loved to watch the late night take offs. The pulses in the flames from the engines as they fired up to take off were always impressive.

  • Fantastic trip down memory lane! My Grandfather worked at the airbase so I spent many hours there watching this great aircraft. Many thanks for uploading.

  • Loved the video, brought back so many memories. I went to look at buying a house in Steeple Claydon, saw F111's on UH approach and decided there and then I was buying that place. Have some vids myself taken from the dead end road at Ardley during a mass launch, must get then posted.

  • Thanks for uploading! Awesome jet that really played it's part of the cold war.

  • Ich hab se mir immer lauter vorgestellt, aber wie ich höre ist sie ein echter Fighter!

  • Miss the roar of the F111s live 3 miles from Heyford used to go there and watch em takeoff/land.

    Pity they left

  • I thought the F-111 wing sweep angle was automatic dependant on the aircraft's speed, watching this clip it appears that it can be manually controlled also?

  • @neilz1309 Sorry for the very late reply. yes, manual activation.

  • Thanks for that vid! I was stationed at Lakenheath and we had the F models there. Was there from '89 to '92. Man, I really do miss those jets! Used to load bombs on them.

  • Great clip! Loved being in England back in the early 80s at Heyford. The 111 was a great aircraft.

  • Thanks you so much i used to live In Oxford not far from the Base and would go and see the F111's and EF111'S with my Dad and Brother when i was very young and your clip just brought back so many memories for me. Thanks again

  • Great video, thank you!

I'm looking for more video's from around Upper Heyford base.

  • Another great clip from the archive, thanks! I was probably there at what could have been the last such demo.

I can remember the vaark's arrival - I was just a kid doing the paper round and it made the headlines of the 'Chron n Eck'.

Vids like this are what YT is all about - stuff you can share that would otherwise be lost from sight forever. Check out my Mildenhall AF vids from 82-ish on my other YT page 'Vulcanfanman'. More please!

  • @rockinroy555

Being able to watch clips on YT is even more important now that the RAAF retired the F111 on 3 Dec 2010. I live near the final home base of operational F111 at Amberley QLD and will miss the "sound of freedom" as our local mayor calls it.
