@Jewcymidget Not sure... can't find anything of them doing Walking Away live. The bass intro is really difficult and so is the trumpet solo/duet with trombone - maybe that's why?
I love both versions. This one is more fun to play on the guitar because it's unique and a bit easier. Still, the original is awesome and I love listening to it. Anyone else think this would make a good BOTAR song? A full sting quartet version of Canon in a ska song. Also it might be a partially practical thing that Pete just chills in the back. Some of the stuff he plays is really intricate, so it would probably be really easy for him to get distracted, but still...
@47zencreative Because (sadly) Pete McCullough doesn't get much attention in the band. He plays the least noticeable instrument, he's always off to the side, and he never really talks much. The only time I heard many people mention him was during the Ship of Fools: Odds and Ends when he was (temporarily) by Pierre St. Paul.
@erasetoimprove They both have their merits, I love this one you can really feel the beat and makes me bob along to it, The faster version makes me break into a run whenever i hear it, and i can't skip it once i start, cause it's got me in it's spell.
Catch22 is nothing without Kalnoky... i mean when they play stuff off keasbey nights it sounds like garbage. streetlight, the legit shit! :D AND I'M COUNTING DOWN TO JULY 15!!!!!
watch the catch 22 live 2006 performance of this song worse shit ive ever heard I feel bad kalanoky has to see his x band claim his songs and slaughter them
@jstova1 as much as this sounds like some douchy pretentious hipster comment, i almost dont want them to have that much publicity. i just want to keep them all to myself, and with all you other streetlight lovers of course!
@isquarejenny as for the acoustic, it is a Takamine EG5013SVFT with what I believe to be a filed down saddle that makes some of the strings buzz when strummed.
Just saw them again at Warped Tour yesterday in MD. I noticed that Tomas broke his arm, they have another guy on guitar. Great set though, wish they gave them more time.
i like the pachelbels canon reference in the horns. whoever writes the horn parts must have had a heavy classical music background because they also reference a classical piece in If and When We Rise Again.
It was for simplicity. I'm not a dumbshit, but if I said Canon in C, most people wouldn't recognize it(you'd be surprised). Plus by putting it in C, one can compare the chord changes, specifically the difference between F and Dm.

most ska bands keep the bassist in the back. mostly i think its to keep time cuz with the guitar always playing upbeats its important for the drums and bass to keep good time. also it may be because between the guitar(s) and horns there are already enough people up front.
does anyone know why the bassist is always standing in the back with the drummer??? i have seen these guys twice and he was never up front. he is just as big a part of the band as the rest yet he is always the least visible. why???
haha thats halarious. i was going to comment this video and ask the same thing. how weird. just cause i was watching it and i had the idea to ask. thats a massive fluke that you just happened to have asked it too. ive seen them live and he just stood at the back. hes a great bassist so he has no reason to be shy.
it'0s true, i saw them a couple of months ago in madrid and i was like, WTF what is doing this amazing bassiust back there! but hearing is enough for me, he is so good. long live STREETLIGHT long live Mike Brown
He's just a more traditional type of player in terms of showmanship. Chris Patzik was a bit like that too. Other bands have bassists that prefer to chill in the back too like Reel Big Fish, Libertines, etc. Josh Ansley was the total opposite! His stage presence and backing vocals is >>> than anything Streetlight has had in his place since he left (though the actual talent has increased).
That's Orlando for ya. What I mean to say is, it's obvious there's multiple moving cameras on the band. Only the House of Blues at Disney has a screen, and there it's just a stationary camera from the sound booth. I'd be impressed if Streetlight got to headline there.

Just pointing it out, the guitar chords for this song are
C G Am E F C Dm G
while Cannon in D is
C G Am E F C F G
The minor difference makes a huge difference

um, canon in D would be in the key of D not C, but nice try
