  • i dont really like the 6.0 either but it makes much more power and gets better gas mileage than the 7.3, and if you take a 6 leaker to powerstroke help for 5k they'll bulletproof it and youll get the reliability of the old 7.3.

    Idk much about GMs 6.5 but they're not in very many trucks and that oughtta tell you somethin bout them.

    There are millions of 6.0s and 7.3s out there though

    Ford > Chevy

  • That Ford sounds nasty......My '03.5 6.0 is at 210k and has only had small things go wrong - boosted up too...Cat delete, stage 2 intake, SCT street tune. Still lights up the 35's on command......Those 6.4's can handle 1250hp/2000+tq all day long

  • ive had both these motors,a 6.5 and a 6.0,if you eliminate their problems before they go back,both are virtually bulletproof,we still have the 6.0,its making arounf 500hp and weve had it making that since 32,000miles..now its got a respectable 295k on it and the motor has never once been rebuilt,the 6.5 has 340k on it when i sold it and she ran like new

  • yea we had a 6.0 we ended up lemon lawing.but from what i have heard the lateryears of the 6.0 were alot better.new 6.4s are junk.to bad ford got rid of the 7.3 hopefully the 6.7 will be good.

  • The fords a 6.0. Like most of the people I'm reading on here obviously don't know much about diesels. The 6.0 got a bad rap because no one knew how to work on it. Stud the heads on a 6.0 and it's a very stout motor and will scoot. The 6.5 as well. It's a decent motor. Take care of it and it will last. Not as great as the new 6.6 everyones used to but it's a real workhorse

  • thats not true. you can get turbos for chevy 8.1 engines. most volvos have turbos. some subarus have aftermarket turbo engines. any many others.

  • Why does it matter? Every one has the brand that they like. The way i see it is as long as it doesnt have spark plugs they are all good to me, with that being said every diesel has its problems there is no point in arguing about it its a good vid i like all diesels as long as they dont have a DPF they are all good, just depends on what you are trying to do with it.

  • if you take care of your 6.5/6.2 they will last forever the only reason they crack is because their based off a gas engine so if you just take it easy you can easily hit 300k and the ford 6.0 is the biggest peice of shit iv ever seen my boss had a ford 6.0 and didnt even make it past 70k

  • @ Sayer308- 6.2/6.5 are NOT based on gas engines. You're thinking of the 4.3/5.7 Olds diesel...these are totally different. They are diesels from the ground up. They crack because they were run too hot, too fast, or with too little oil.

    @ PSD 6.2/6.5 are decent engines they are basically just a work engine and were never meant to out perform any IH/PSD/Cummins diesel. A 6.9 N/A could beat a 6.5TD in a race.

    That's not true. The only diesel that was based off of a gas block is a 5.7L Oldsmobile diesel. And from what I can tell the only reason why they crack are due to high stress. And with time can warp the timing chain, which is the first domino to tip. The best upgrades for these engines are 18.5:1 pistons, Stronger cylinder heads and gaskets, a stud girdle and timing gears, this will not only strengthen the engine, it will also be able to accommodate more power.

  • I just towed a truck from Pennsylvania to Indiana this weekend in a Blazer and it couldn't even maintain speed on I70 pulling hills and was swaying all over. My F350 Powerstroke will pull 18k pounds and not even realise its back there.
