  • This video by Guru was back in the day when it was real hip hop. Not artificial-computer generated crap like it is today!! Back then, rappers were making a point...now their just making a buck! That's why these idiot punk-ass wannabes play out so quick! Their lyrics don't show any point at all. Back then, true showmanship!! R.I.P Guru!! Come back and scool these young idiots!!

  • I was watchin Video Music Box..this shit came on and I was like "daaaaaamn THIS SHIT BUMPIN" s/o to Preem and R.I.P. Guru. (I aint even swoll about that illkid records character yall jacked me for no more )

  • @0live0wire0 Its actually a Dizzy Gillespie tune... Nights in Tunisia, Sounds like the sample may be from the Charlie Parker/ Miles Davis version

    H.O.W _TO_ R.A.P

  • I was like a b/w ages of 6 - 12 during this era, back then I couldn't really "understand" the lyrics and metaphors but now that I am in 26 and have learned so much more, i've come back to this 90's rap shit like this and am totally digging this shit, Guru is nuts with his lyrics.. SO much betta then the auto-tune BS rap of today. w0rd

  • RIP Guru

  • I was a high school sophomore when Guru dropped this track. Fat gold chains, Cross Colors and high top fades was truly the business back then. Guru was the "Malcolm X" of East coast rap. Nare nigga can ever replace Guru. They can only try to succeed him. R.I.P. Guru. Love, us... =(

  • @CRuXR1ner I love Guru but I would say KRS ONE was the Malcolm X of East Coast hip hop, he even recreated Malcolm looking out the window with the gat on his Criminal Minded album cover...

  • @loxi59tica actually is summer of 89

  • I luv Preemo. His cuts are clean, precise and clever. If that makes any sense.

  • @ILuvMusic4 real makes plenty of sense to me!

  • BVM > Vevo

  • I used to get so hype when this came on Yo MTV Raps as a kid. R.I.P. Guru.

  • I just found out about gang starr!!!! I've been missing out! wish i listened to this instead of nwa when i was a kid!

The bullshit that fills the radios today, and also in the past compared to all the great, inspirational and positive music that is everywhere is further proof that the ancient reptilian gods living in the moon are trying to keep everyone dumb, stupid and asleep.

    I'm glad i have awoken!!!

    manifesting my reality! whoop whooop

  • This brand of hip hop is better than the piece of shit rap crap they play over the radio...Lil "Tiny" Wayne, Soulja "Pervert" Boy, and other talentless jackasses have nothing on him. RIP The Real Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal. Play real rap not fake crap.

  • RIP the almight GANGSTARR'S GURU!!!

  • This is from about 88 is'nt it?

  • @loxi59tica

yup, im 35 years old and this shit is the fucking standard. REAL HIP HOP!!

  • i like how they used the melody to "night in tunesia" which is a jazz standard. kind of funny that they sampled it to make hip hop beats from it

  • tupac sucks. Gangstarr, nuff said.

  • @SEARLY100 what did u say about Pac??! are u stupid or stupido?

  • This song and Tupac Panther Power makes me appreciate the Rappers, accuse me, the artist who are dedicated to hip hop.

  • this is real true rap

  • Brings back so many memories!! RIP Guru!!

  • i watch it three times and still need it....

  • hate to beark it to ya lil boys, but....tupac is crap...wanna be thug BS...GURU is a real mc...real hip hop...tupac could never dream of even comin close to fuckin with guru........FACT. deal with it kids........

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO For calling people kids so much, you sure do lack the maturity and common sense of an adult. You still living in the hood or what? Because you obviously have no respect. When you fired at me, I had to fire back. Otherwise I would have nothing bad to say to you. But of course, you're one persistent ass nigga.

  • Guru did great music with Solar too

  • @ArcticRhino comparing pac to guru is like comparin a penny to a million dollar bill...fuck "pac"...RIP GURU.

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO Whoa Guru is great, but don't ever say Tupac is shit.

  • @EliteJino yes...when comparing guru to tupac...guru is god and tupac is dogshit on the sidewalk...DONT GET IT TWISTED, RESPECT YER ELDERS...........fuckin dumbass kids these days....

  • @RykiOo why bother kiddoe...

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO Stop riding Guru's dick. Hell I iike Guru too, but you must be be the fucking dumbass kid if you think Pac sucks. Stop talking shit overline too you pussy ass hiding behind your damn computer. I bet you a damn punk in person.

  • @EliteJino more like...u get off of tupacs nuts...cuz he fuckin sucks. ride someones nuts who actually has skills...like guru...chump..........

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO What in the hell is wrong with you? Pac would not get cited as the greatest mc of all of time so much if he sucked right? Like I said I love Gangstarr, but saying Pac sucks makes you look like one of those new school rap fans.

  • @EliteJino im smarter than u, thats whats wrong with me :) yer incorrect, what makes "pac" one of the best mc's of all time(WHICH HE IS NOT)...is his popularity and the corporate brainwashing of weak minds like you :) get yer facts right new schooler...lol...u fakers/wanna bes will never get it...

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO YOU'RE INCORRECT. Pac is the greatest mc of all time because of his message and what he meant to people. Guru sure as hell doesn't have a major message in lyrics. I think you don't get it NEWSCHOOLER. No corporations have brainwashed me, but from the looks of it you must be being brainwashed. As a matter of fact, consider this conversation done, you ignorant son of a bitch.

  • @EliteJino typical load of BS. try coming with facts, not rants :) ill be waiting. heres some advice, actually dig in the crates and get some knowledge, instead of riding the commercial nuts and faking like yer down...cuz u aint foolin me, never could.......next........damn bein this on point isnt easy, but somebody gotta do it, my pleasure :)

  • Comment removed

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO I got over 200 classic hip hop albums, so there's no questioning my knowledge. If there's a top 10 mc list, Guru would be honorable mention. Pac would be in top three.

  • @EliteJino how about you both shut the fuck up? You're both most likely losers who have never lived or experienced hip hop culture, let alone have the credentials to speak on the matter at all. Niether of you are even mc's. real mc's know to appreciate all artists for their particular swing on things, and don't try to compare them to eachother, arguing like pathetic boys with small dicks. Grow up you fucking children, learn how to actually spit a rhyme before you offer your your hollow critique.

  • @KidFaw No need to say all that, this guy just pissed me off by ripping on Pac so much. I just got carried away with this guy. He must be obsessed with Guru or something. And to you, I do live and breathe this culture, and have an appreciation for a wide array of artists including Pac AND Guru. So no I am no dick rider. I have a wide array of albums from several different artists, so for you to question my critique is pathetic. So in short, you can go fuck yourself as well. I don't respect you.

  • @EliteJino over 200 huh...wow...IM NOT IMPRESSED. and for the record "pac"isnt even on the top 50 list....guru is in the top 10...take it to the head...

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO Whoever made what list your looking at should have their balls cut off. 2pac is a top five mc hands down.

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO You aren't on point at all man. You sound like a fool. Now just lie down and accept defeat. You aren't going to win an argument with me boy. It must be sad knowing that your favorite mc is dead, but don't forget, not everyone even likes Guru, so your opinion is not directly the one of everyone elses. Just enjoy this music man, and lets not try to bring Pac or Guru or down, we got to make these newschoolers realize the old school is the best. BTW, don't act like you hate pac.

  • @EliteJino u still tryin to win? u lost a long time ago kiddoe...go to bed, past yer bedtime. aww, yer idol got murdered...at least guru died with some dignity :) next...try real hard, u can do it...

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO You should see what KidFaw had to say about both of us. Hes right to an extent but I still say fuck him. We need to stop this back and forth shit, because it makes us look like immature children. RIP to Guru AND Pac. Good enough?

  • @EliteJino lol. ill just say this...tupac was very talented, he told the same story as guru but from a different perspective...the reason i love guru so much more than tupac? because ive been listenting to hip hop since 86...when i was 6, i got all the albums through the years as they came out. ive seen the tranformation "hip hop" has gone through, in the late 80's to early 90's is was ALL ABOUT FUN & POSITIVITY. but today any idiot rappin violent is considered hip hop, alot of people are...

  • @EliteJino confused on what hip hop really is, i lived through the late 80's and early 90's when all that shit came out and im tellin u, the vibe and presence hip hop had was like god himself blessing u with his pressence...the feeling was so much more real...it was living...i dont feel the same with this shit today. its all fake...know what i mean? its lost its sinerity and its authenticity. tupac was goood but he gets alot more credit than he deserves because of his fame, we need to rep the...

  • @EliteJino underdogs more, because they deserve it. the rappers i grew up on, all the late 80's & early 90's greats, kept it much more realer than rappers today. they were havin fun with metaphors and bein creative with their intellect. admit it, most of the shit today is about violence, sex, drugs, clothes, hoes & cars, PERIOD. bring back that real true positive hip hop vibe, when done right, is much more powerful than macho BS, i miss that feeling. but unfortunately, hip hop is infact dead RIP

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO I completely agree with you. And about what you said about Pac I agree. He is a great mc, but his popularity completely outweighs that of numerous mcs who have nearly or equal amount of skill on the mic, like Guru, Rakim, KRS ONE, Kool G Rap, Nas, you know it seems like people think Pac is the only good mc. If you ask a newschooler who is the best mc, they'll instantly say Pac to avoid backlash. Its like people only say Pac because hes the most popular old school mc,

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO I agree with everything you're saying but its like, either you know about music like this or you dont, there is no in-between. Its like this sort of music chose us, with it, it carries a very delicate message that is way to apparent and blatant for others to simply negate, the old school brothas knew what they were doing, they created an artistic form of expression from the soul that carried a legacy on their backs, yet today idiots beef over who sold more records?

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO Its not only the rappers, its the labels that entice this sort of dumbing down, the media shares and packages the garbage only to willingly sell it to our children as "just entertainment". If you ask me, it isnt even about music at all, it seems like they just want to destroy peoples lives an further entice total retardation. They even have the audacity to call their garbage material hip-hop, rofl, they are literally shitting on it by saying that.

  • @LASVEGASGHETTO So after a few generations, what are you left with, a naive and mentally limited populous that knows no better and will literally do anything to the hand that feeds them, thats where Big Brother steps in to clean up the mess. Fuck it, since we're deep lets get deeper. The problem doesn't start at the artist, label, media, or the fan, the problem is the Rothschild Tribunal, that owned Reuters for 200+years, which in return owns all the media and entertainment outlets.

  • the modern garbage despises eternal music such as this because they are simply stupid and dont want to hear real shit because it combats with their belief system, the way they carry themselves, and everything they have been taught in their little pathetic lives thus far, this is beyond their comprehension... RIP Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal because these are the words you manifested in me. The true way of going about things is through peace, compassion, and most importantly awareness.. 1Luv

  • @fukwaynecampaign2 nice user name

  • @fukwaynecampaign2 truth my brother

  • maybe the best ever....seriously...proably the best mc in hip hop...never will there be anyone nearly as dope as guru...RIP REAL HIP HOP...love ya...one of the best hip hop singles of all time...

  • 16 people don't know real hip was embodied in the mind, body and soul of Keith Elam aka Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal////

  • 0:04 my brotha did that the whole song and every otha dance in it

  • My all time favourite group. Can believe I'll never see a new Gang Starr album.

    RIP Guru

  • Pete Rock influenced JayDee and 9th Wonder's sound/style. Listen to joints like "The Main Ingredient" and "Carmel City". The samples...the drums.

Dilla would be like 4th on my Top 5.

  • Anyone notice that Guru doesnt sound that monotune on this song ?

  • Saw Guru the night of the NYC blackout in 2003 hanging outside a hotel - wish I had the nuts to strike up a conversation back then.

    Pepperoni slices!

  • @monsterhouston WAT A WORLD OF REGRET YOU MUST HAVE NOW ..!!! WAT A SHAME HOMIE

  • @monsterhouston damn..

  • I MISS YOU HIP HOP :(

  • @illmatic826 hip-hop miss you too the back in the day hip-hop

  • this the shit this is real hip-hop

  • how does this video get any dislikes guru is the 1 and only

  • Thats one lecture i would attend

  • ULTIMATE CLASSIC!!!

  • the only real shytt you will find in this hiphop game is GANGSTARR!!

  • Man 90's and late 80's were so much more intricate in rap and hip hop. You don't hear as much instruments like shakers and drums, and trumpeting as you do see in tracks like this. All the actual raw creativity is condensed and just easily laid into stuff. Like current rap isn't catchy unless there is a large amount of piano even used, and even that can get boring.

  • REAL MC'S

  • This star doesn't need a gun to be all gangsta(rr) lil kids these days need to get real and listen to Guru! rest in peace

  • Whoz da illest Hiphop producer? Primo, Pete Rock? Whats y'all opinion?

  • @NBALegendary The Alchemist to me is the illest, since you put it that way.

  • @NBALegendary Ski Beatz, Primo, Pete Rock, J Dilla...

  • @NBALegendary That is got to be the hardest question in HipHop Music - you've forgotten J Dilla and Marly Marl as well.

Anyway, for me just it would Dj Premier... But only just .. Marley Marl's early work within HipHop music has to be respected .. So does the work of J Dilla and Pete Rock...

But Dj Premier...good grief.. the stuff he did with Jeru Da Damage and Gang Starr was magical

  • They both look so young

  • This is the guru that we all know and love.

  • people sleepin' on classics

  • A Night in Tunisia!

  • serious business

  • My mom got me into Gangstarr, back in '89, when I was 7. "I like that Malcolm X looking guy. "(RIP Guru) LOL! Thank you ma! She wasn't the hugest hip hop fan, but she knew good music when she heard it. I feel so privileged growing up on this.

  • 90s hair styles need to come back into fashion. and the clothes. and the music, actually everything from the 90s needs to come back

  • @easssyeddy you really want some phonies to jump on this. let the masses do what they do. if liking old skool went mainstream it'd get yuppied out and lose it's realness. you'd have to weed out the bandwagoners.

  • @Vrishchii yeah true

  • woooo!!!

  • "I go for glory, I'm takin inventory".... This joint is so epic it's ridiculous!!! RIP GURU. Peace to Guru and DJ Premier. Together, they brought an element to hip-hop that alot of artists COULD NOT DELIVER! Peace & Blessings.

  • damn man guru bit rakim's pattern on his video move the crowd...... rakim ran shit

  • crazy how oldschool hip hop vocals arent stacked, its just one with reverb.

  • great lyrics and flow!!!....but ive been spoiled by nujabes beats nowadays haha.

  • yo RIP Guru i cant believe people like this are passing away... i always throw on a gangstarr track and vibe

  • my fav song from them....and i see we got some idiots up there that don't like this song.....smokin too much geef.

  • RIP Guru. May you live on through your incredible contributions to music and subsequently people's lives.

  • The majority of hip hop on radio nowadays is a load of autotuned garbage. I'm only 15 and I'm annoyed that I missed out on the years when hip hop was like this, when rappers actually put some thought into their lyrics. I attempt to bring back true hip hop like this, with my music and open everyone else's eyes to the greatest genre on earth! Please support me.

  • Anyone else but me think that Guru, LL Cool J, and the younger brother from "Everybody Hate's Chris" look alike?

  • @rickylascaze001 REALLY??? LMFAO!!

  • @jenja718 Yeah I'm serious.

  • @rickylascaze001 LITERALLY LMAO!!!! U KNO WHAT,,, THE KID FROM EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS REALLY DOES LOOK LIKE LL, I THOUGHT THAT WAS HIS SON. BUT I DONT KNO BOUT GURU.

  • I knew that I liked this duo when I first heard this song. But little did I know they'd end up being my favorite group of all time. If you listen to each successive album you hear them maturing until by the end of their run, they were masters of their trade and sound.

  • @teachferrer U couldn't be more exact with that statement.

  • The Days I Miss...

  • R. I. P. GURU!!!!

  • This is real RAP!!

  • classsssssssic

  • reminds me of malcom X @ 0:28

  • @tray99998 true, true..

  • @flickerman68 Cointelpro.

  • @Finallythankyou Umm well I was talking about the music :)

  • Susogós Mackók Forever! ;)

  • Much respect to the GURU...he's definitely missed by those who understood the true hip hop spirit.

  • Wow art , just true art, the rhymes, the musik, the lyrical slaugther but also the music vid. damn! everything seems so perfect and thought thru in this project - gotta say ain't nothing much bigger than this when it comes to real hiphop

  • guru had to sell his soul.. to tell the young what he said about ManiFest and to teach the truth, but most poeple didnt listen. so he died in 2010 the year of "Manifestion". Guru got up in 1988 when he made this song and then died the year of the meaning 2010. "Words that I ManIfest"..

  • beast

  • Same sample as in DJ Jazzy Jeff - Jeff 'N' Fess (feat. Rhymefest)

  • @FINbball Night In Tunisia

  • I grew up with that kind of music, today i'm teaching my kids what real hiphop is all about. Real Mc's, where it all started. Believe me my kids give it more respect then anybody else !

  • @REGI7777 thank you because we need it today. hip hop needs help badly.

  • r.i.p. guru but what with that wack leather hat hahah

  • this is something id learn from adult swim

  • i was doing this at 0:04 at the whole entire song lol

  • Samples "A Night In Tunisia" by Charlie Parker. (The band is Charlie Parker - alto sax, Miles Davis - trumpet, Lucky Thompson - tenor sax, Arvin Garrison - guitar, Dodo Marmarosa - piano, Vic McMillan - upright bass, Roy Porter - drums)

ONE OF ALL-TIME CLASSIC CUTS IN HIP-HOP'S "GOLDEN AGE." Remember hearing this all throughout a weekend that I visited NC A&T University. Cats were all ON that c.o.n.s.c.i.o.u.s tip back then, and this jont KILLED 'em. Premier is fiyah on them tables, too.
