Johnny, Am I to late?

I believe a performer has to convey the meaning of the song. This is a song full of missing your loved one, of parting and longing for what you do not have and McEvoy sings it like a happy drinking song. That is just wrong to me.

Speaking as a guitarist, It definitely has little more going on in it than the one done by the Dubliners.
I've played along with both versions, and this one is more fun to play. The Dubliners' is easier to play, though.
I play and sing the song in G and the second line, starting with a C, is hard to get used to, Johnny does the C, the Dubliners do not.
But once you get accustomed to it, I think it makes for a better rhythm.

i share your personal opinion fully. He is good but the Dubliners make you almost want to cry if your not crying already.

Brilliant, this is the way the song should be sang, a great bit of life in the way Johnny Does it. This must be over 20 years old.
