The late great flute player Frankie Kennedy with Altan was the first to put these two tunes together in this way. Only the first tune, a slow air, is actually called Dobbin's Flowery Vale. There are lyrics to it--it's a traditional Irish song from County Armagh. The second tune is a reel played at a slow tempo that's known by several names, including Eddie Moloney's Favorite and The Drogheda Lasses. I hope Rajaton gives Altan credit for the arrangement.
I was lucky enough to experience even this performance live. As every concert held by Rajaton it was overwhelming. Such virtuosity is hard to find nowadays. And I just have to brag: managed to get tickets to the extra x-mas concert - YAY!!!
i was in their master class and i didn't belive, that they are so good ... but the first think they did they introduced themselves with a song ... and belive it or not i was impressed! they were better in live because u see them how they enyoj every moment they sing and it is incredible! :)
I thought I agreed with @xXxPeasinaCanXx... On second thoughts, however, I think I prefer the version on 'Boundless' (2001)... Still, Rajaton is always amazing! ♥
@DearlyLoved Yes, I agree. I prefer the 'Boundless' version. However, it is nice seeing them perform live here, as you get a good appreciation of their 'technique' and skill. Both versions are rather mystifying (especially for people like me who cannot sing a single note on key... ;-)
Äärettömän kaunista... Iho kananlihalla. Rakastan Essin ääntä! Myös muilla todella kauniit äänet, mutta heitä saa harvemmin kuulla pitemmissä sooloissa. :)
@kaelasa The best version I have ever heard was when they toured Asia with The Real Group, The Idea of North and an American male vocal group. I got to be in a room with them with 6 other people, just sitting across a table from them when they sang 'Butterfly' and I got teary and goosebumps - they are magical musicians and wonderful people! I don't think the concert from (Korea?) is for public viewing though - and not on YouTube.
Horrible audiences :O

@laelamarie1 Rajaton is a Finnish a cappella group. Another one of their songs (on my Favorites) is "Kulkue" or "The Procession" at:

I saw them on their Australian tour with Idea of North, I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. It was so powerful.
