There aren't anymore running backs like Riggens in today's NFL.What did Madden say?Give the ball to Riggans 25 + times?Nobody carries the ball 25 times anymore. They pass way too much.Boring football.Mix the running and passing. The league isn't near as strong as it once was. There are not any great defences anymore.A 9-7 Giants team wins the superbowl.A 13-1 Packers team with the worse defence in the league loses the first game?Today's game is just above the mediocre markPatriots 2nd worse defence
I was a Cowboy fan in those days. It saddened me that Dallas once again would lose in the NFC Championship game for the third consecutive year in a row.
There are two types of running backs. Those that run with finese and speed and those that run hard and brutualize a defensive front line. Riggins was brutual and took apart that Cowboys front four. I remember this game.
Wow, the screen's not covered with graphics, there's no yellow first down line, yet will still know what's going on. How did we ever watch football on TV without that stuff?
@Harlowe79 I know isn't it amazing? Somehow the game was better then, had world-class commentators like Madden and Summerall, game was played better, coached better, covered better by class TV networks.....and had NONE of the high-tech crap that fills the screen today. Now it's all about money and egos without respect for the game.
Amazing how football seemed better back then without all that crap we have now.
@Harlowe79 How did we ever get along without cell phones? Heck, I rarely used a pay phone back when that was the only option to the one in my house. "Wouldn't it be nice" becomes NEED; and all of a sudden you can't see the screen for the Dancing Graphics.
Having down/time/score/timeout continuously on screen: major advance. I might even give you the first-down highlighter.
@FRSFreeState No, domusvita means it was the last of three NFC Chamionships in the 80's that Dallas APPEARED in, not won.
The Cowboys went to three NFC Champs. in a row, but lost to the Eagles 20-7 in 1980-81, lost to the 49ers 28-27 in 1981-82, and then this game, 31-17 to the Skins, 1982-83.
@FRSFreeState Give me a break, YOU were the one who jumped on him for assuming he was talking about Dallas WINNING the 80's NFC Championships, when he was really only talking about Dallas APPEARING in the games.
If three simple football scores and the years they were played is a "history lesson" to you, might want to think about increasing the old attention span....just saying.
Please, since you know better than me, tell me what you think would be "adding something new"..... :)
Oh man, well before my time. That doesn't mean I don't still love that we are 2-0 in the playoffs against them or that I didn't see these wonderful games xD. Imagine what would have happened if we still had this great team and played them in the mid 90's. Anyway, Go Redskins, we are coming back!!!!
50 Gut...ran Randy White's ass...The One Back O with Riggo & Da Hogs..1st Drive -walked down the yard for a TD!!! Never heard RFK that loud....Gimme the Ball!

By the next season EVERYBODY was.

The Redskins need a new stadium, bad.
I have an idea for one.
It's still standing.

@Redskins473 I hate that we call this "old" Redskins football.
But I'll trade the wince when I read that for the pleasure of watching this game as it happened. :-)
