There is plenty of amazing quality tea coming out of china that is absolutely safe. I would advise you to drink high quality Japanese green tea. I would also stay away from US owned companies. Half of them are owned by tobacco firms and they all put so much fake processed junk in their products. It pains me I'm American but our food companies are corrupt garbage! Go Japanese much higher standards.

you can still drink Chinese green tea, just purchase products from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and God forbid even Japan...anywhere but tea made from The People's Republic of China. Japanese green teas have only a limited variety and are all derivatives of one another. Try Sencha and Matcha (used in Chanoyu), these two are good teas. I personally prefer the taste of Chinese greens over Japanese ones. IMO Chinese teas greatly surpass Japanese ones in aroma.

You have to remember that China is home to 1 billion people. If one business messes up then all of China is scrutinized by the international community.
If a company in the US messes up, the company takes all the blame. Even if a Chinese company tries to take the blame its usually ignored. Chinese products are safe but you have to remember that the media is sometimes over reactive.

In a choice between japanese sencha or chinese roasted teas I would most likely choose a chinese tea.

Interesting never new the seeds are toxic. I have seen bits of the seeds in gunpowder tea I have. I will pick them out if I ever notice them now :)
