It's now a year old (and a couple days), and it sounds like an entirely different album than when I first gave it a listen. Pretty much like every other Radiohead album.
@Bob12345678910423 after calculating what i said... i don't think its right to make this comparison...
cuz i believe that in music, there isn't "the best band..." or "the most innovative..." its different, its music, and it impacts each person in a different way. i don't think you can put up Radiohead and Pink Floyd, and decide who is better, or who is more experimental, or unique, l'd rather thank them for their music, and hoping for more to come.
Stg pepper lonely hearts club band revolutionized music? at it's time maybe certainly. But i don't think it's one of the 3 top beatles album.
Talking about a major breaktrough in the history of pop music, the equivalent of Beethoven's 3rd Symphony is definitely Tommy. Now that was the greatest pop music album ever made. Floyd might be experimental in the same sense as Radiohead, in that music style, but Queen was certainly the most ''experimental'' in the sense of almost all genres of music
@Bob12345678910423 Haha, you can't say super offensive things and end it with "No offense." Most people regard Queen as one of the top 5 bands of all time. Even if it is subjective, it becomes more objective when the majority of people agree with it...
@michaelhays92 Definitely disagree with this. I like Queen a lot, but most people do not regard them as a top 5 band of all time. Top 20 maybe. Not that I agree with all these bands, but The Beatles, Floyd, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Dylan, Radiohead, The Stones, The Who, Nirvana...just a few that are almost always ranked above Queen by the majority of people and publications.
@pearljammer13 Haha I think you are reading into this a bit too seriously my friend. I was exaggerating with top 5, it's probably 10 or 15. That being said, I rarely see Nirvana, Radiohead or The Who being ranked above Queen, not counting Rolling Stone who are randomly obsessed with Kurt Cobain (top 50 vocalist of all time? Nah).
@michaelhays92 Personally my favorite place is besteveralbums(.com)...which is obviously based around albums. But they do have a top artists list as well which has all those bands ahead. They also have OK Computer as the top album of all time. Either way though Queen is great, and Radiohead is great.
@pearljammer13 I saw that recently! That's bold, I never imagined to put OK Computer above half of The Beatles' albums, but it's an interesting claim when you think about it. Honestly it's so hard to compare between genres, I can't even decide between Kid A and OK Computer (both SO good, but very different). I love that site, mostly because it rates Jeff Buckley so high :P
@Shycreator Oh so you would rather have just another pop band with generic songs aimed at the radio and MTV? Radiohead wouldn't be Radiohead without the incredible experimentation. "They are experimenting too much", give me a break.
@Bob12345678910423 I'm just saying I miss the old Radiohead. This is great and all, but before this album came out, in my personal opinion, they were perfect.
@Shycreator Radiohead is the epitome of experimentation. The most experimenting band since The Beatles. I'm not a huge fan of this album, but Kid A is the best album of the millennium and it came from a HUGE amount of experimenting.
@michaelhays92 Yes, Kid A was when they started experimenting, but I'm talking about Hail to the Thief. Before Kid A, they were really at its best (in my opinion)
@michaelhays92 Beatles?! Try Pink floyd. Most experimental band in history. Some times with great results, some times not so much. I love the beatles and all, but Floyd really pushed the limits. I like to think of Radiohead as our generations Pink Floyd. Very much alike, but also very different. Beatles were much more mainstream, and focused most of their music at radio hits. That's what separate them from Floyd and Radiohead. And in my opinion a big part of what held them back.
@Bob12345678910423 You obviously don't know much about The Beatles. Sgt Peppers revolutionized music. Agreed about Pink Floyd, but they didn't have as much success in their experimentation.
@michaelhays92 Yes the the beatles had aimed at pop culture, and adolescents for the most part, especially in their earlier albums. Watch their concerts. They were flooded by young girls screaming their eyes out for them. In many ways their were a lot like today's Justin Bieber, Micle Jackson, etc. etc. (I'm by no means comparing them to Bieber). But what I'm saying is that Radiohead doesn't care about pop culture and the media. It was one of the beatles biggest influences.
@Bob12345678910423 you know whats funny? Pink Floyd actually started as experimental, but with and loss of syd barret, they got more "classic", and its quite the opposite from Radiohead, which started as "classic" indie-rock band, and turned into what they are.
@Shycreator In my opinion no bands perfect. No art is perfect without practice. In a sense, you can't be perfect without imperfection. Experimentation is what makes radiohead what it is. Please just stop talking, each additional comment just makes you look more and more ignorant on the subject. No offense.
@Bob12345678910423 None taken. I know they aren't 'perfect'. It's just that in my opinion, they were better. Know listening to this album for the fifth time, this isn't really that bad :-)
i love radiohead with every breath i have, but i was slightly dissapointed with this album. Not sure why, but it just doesn't make me feel as amazing as the other post-kid a albums. It disturbs me that I don't feel it like I should.
I just bought the tickets for the concert of the 1st july in Florence!!! I'd like to fall asleep and wake up right 10 minutes before the start...just the time to get high
Wonderful follow up in the usual Radiohead fashion. First watched/listened to the new disk with the limited Youtube "From the Basement" installment. Couldn't get enough! Thanks for putting the album up!
So this whole time I've been listening to this song from the left earbud (I was born deaf in my right ear) and I just got around to listening to the other bud. Completely different experience.
@itsachickenwiththing I was born with the same problem! I've only listened to this album with a headset at work that combines right and left, but I get so annoyed when I try to listen to the Beatles on headphones at home...
@neilspataro Yeah, I just recently got one of those "One Good Ear" earbuds, completely changed the way I listen to music. It used to suck because I would have to hook my ipod up to my car speakers or something to hear both channels.
@Shycreator How most music is recorded nowadays, they engineer it so that it has two separate channels: left and right, which correspond to the left and right earphone respectively. What this means is that, for most songs, two different sounds are coming out of each earphone. For people like me who are deaf in one ear, the effect is lost, we can only hear one channel at a time (through normal earphones/buds). Essentially, if one were to switch to the other channel, it's a whole new sound.
@itsachickenwiththing Pretty cool. I guess that's the only upside to being partially deaf, huh?
If I were to choose between deafness and blindness, I'd probably choose blindness, because if I were completely deaf, I wouldn't be able to hear Radiohead.
@TheAndrewj96 I wouldn't really call it an upside, considering anybody can actually do it, y'know, just take one earbud out during the song. In regards to music it's probably one of the things I hate most about my condition, because my whole life I've been having to deal with a subpar listening experience. Surround sound doesn't even do anything for me. And since it's a relatively obscure condition, there isn't much in the way of quality equipment designed with my condition in mind. #fmlrant
@itsachickenwiththing Yup I feel you on the rant about subpar listening. I'm not completely deaf in my right ear, but profound loss is just about the same for all intents and purposes when it comes to music. Bluetooth in hearing aids is an improvement, but still not great.

Bob12345678910423 Radiohead actually follows The Beatles in their album chronology:
- Pretty crappy early albums (Please Please Me vs Pablo Honey)
- Breakthrough albums (Rubber Soul and Revolver vs The Bends)
- Revolutionary albums (Sgt Peppers vs OK Computer)
- Albums to define a generation (White Album vs Kid A)
- Albums continuing to push the limits of music at the time (Abbey Road vs In Rainbows)

@fishpointrecords Not really, Pink Floyd didn't start having major success with their experiments until DSOTM (1973). Syd left in the late 60's.
