Prob on of the best Indie Top Tens's at the time The Levellers were about to gatecrash the national Top Ten, cracking singles from Mega City Four and Adorable, St Etiennes prob best ever song and the best ever debut single in Suede. Remember as NME buying gig going student, this was the only place aside from Snub TV you could see snippets of decent music on Terrestrial TV.
Dunno, but a kid I was at college with had a huge Kingmaker tattoo done on his whole arm.. that splashy logo thing of theirs. Must have spent the last (nearly) 20 years explaining who they were. Poor bastard.
Obviously the chart show has censored Mudhoney's single "You Stupid Asshole", which was originally sang by the Angry Samoans, an early American Punk Rock band.
If anybody has some old chart show recordings from back in it's day please contact me and I'll be happy to trade in some of my recordings for a copy of yours.
Thanks a billion for these, Dave! I've had a whale of a time going through your uploads this morning. Heartbreaking to see The bloody Levellers knock St Etienne off number one here, though! ;-)
O fantastic! A genuinely important document this, it gives you a real feeling of what it was like to see and hear SUEDE pop up for the first time out of the blue and WHY it was a great thing in itself. JUST LOOK at all that other post-baggy going-nowhere rot that was around at the time. Famously, this clip on this show at this moment made official SUEDE biographer David Barnett 'fall out of bed in shock' when he saw it. Great idea this, great clips. Fabulous. x

Ah, classic Suede single. And great b-sides to it too.
