The government are hypocrits. Any dog is as dangerous as another. If they really wanted to protect people they would ban all dogs, but they ban the dogs that happen to be more muscular. They need to actually research the breed. I am Australian and I can't own the same illegal breeds as the UK and I have seen these so called 'Dangerous Dogs' being more calm or gentle than a Lab that happens to be a LEGAL dog. I rescued my staffy over a year ago and found out yesterday that the police are coming to take her and she'll be destroyed. The law is wrong and we need to get changed. My dog is in no way dangerous hence why she was released. But due to the pervious owner breaking the law and giving her away she is going to pay the ultimate sacrifice. I'm absolutely heart broken!!!!

i genuinely love dogs, and although the legislation might be wrong, i would consider my options before breeding my dog if it was a banned breed. i could breed my dog knowing that the offspring would be condemned to death if they came to the notice of the authorities, or i could accept the law, take responsibilty and not breed the dog for the welfare of the animal and its offspring. kennels are overwhelmed and people are not taking responsibility.pups cant be identified legally until 9 months

They tried using Staffs as police dogs, because they are egger to please and train and love being a working dog.
Sadly because of there poor sense of smell they choose not to use them but if they didnt fail on that then they would have been a good replacement for the Alsatian.

Clearly people think they know what a dangerous dog is! The breed that bite the most people yearly in the UK is.... the labradour. It is an irresponsible parent who leaves their child unsupervised with any animal, regardless of what it is (maybe a tortoise would be ok). I have 2 English Bull Terriers who are well behaved and obedient, However I would not leave them alone with a child, nothing to do with the breed but because they are animals.
It's in the nature of Labradors to bite and chew things as puppies. They are not doing it aggressively, they just want to play. As they gets older they learn the difference between toys that they're allowed to chew, and living things. It's good that you've got the sense not to leave your dogs alone with children, but unfortunately, not everyone has that sense. There is a significant correlation between the breed history of dogs (whether they were bred to attack or not) and bite/kill incidents.

Yes, it's true that a majority of those dogs would have never hurt a fly, but there is still a significant number of them that do, and when they do, they kill. By not breeding those dogs, you are protecting them from having to be put down when they are found. The dogs on the list are dogs that historically were bred to fight and kill, whether other dogs, bears or humans, they were selected for that purpose. If you stop breeding them you can stop the kind of tragedy in the video from happening.

i was just using examples - and yes jack russels are yappy ect but the majority of these dogs have an aggressive nature - not saying yours did .. however the majority of these breeds of dogs are - they should be put down - and as i have been a child who was attacked by a dog i cannot see how its wrong - not wanting to offend anyone but everyone is entiteled to there own opinion ;)

Well then it's your fault they died. You shouldn't have bred them in the first place. You're the murderer here. It doesn't make a difference that they were harmless as puppies, or gentle as adults. The fact is that it is in their nature to flip and attack to kill without warning. That's why they are dangerous, and that's why we don't breed them anymore. People don't kill these dogs for pleasure.

Yes, it's true that a majority of those dogs would have never hurt a fly, but there is still a significant number of them that do, and when they do, they kill. By not breeding those dogs, you are protecting them from having to be put down when they are found. The dogs on the list are dogs that historically were bred to fight and kill, whether other dogs, bears or humans, they were selected for that purpose. If you stop breeding them you can stop the kind of tragedy in the video from happening.

We are only seeing a fraction of the faces lost to this horrid law - it is absolutely tragic, not one animal should face death because of it's breed ! Just as no person should be judged by the colour of skin or nationality ! What needs doing is putting bad people behind bars and freeing good dogs from the hands of bad people !

I get soo angry over this. Blaming an entire breed for what is essientially a human created problem, irresponsible breeders and owners create bad dogs. There's no such thing as a bad breed. But then I guess its just easier for the government to use the dogs as scapegoats and try and wipe out the entire breed, dogs cant defend themselves and they cant vote.........

Annie and Maisey had puppies at 4 and 6 weeks old... all were killed due to a police handler thinking he had the right to breed id !!!
Neither of them girls had ever done anything wrong !!!

Oscar was not meant to have been killed. He was meant to be going to court and go home. However the police logged him incorrectly on their computer and he was wrongly destroyed as an unclaimed stray devastating his owners who had been waiting for their court date.
