technically there's not such thing as "correctly set up altar". There are 1 part, 2 part, up to 10 part altars. And it's all up to the individual. just FYI to anyone who thinks otherwise. You should do what feels right to you.

actually a shrine is a dedication to a deity, entity or a group of deities or entities. an altar is a raised area, or table that is the center piece for religious ritual.

But also, brothers and sisters, remember that the heart is want but for a body and the altar is want for a temple!

This is just teaching tool, and it is important to keep the altar cleared when not used for devotional. I understand your affection for beautiful art, and the deep symbolic meaning, but "as without, so within".

Beautiful, Helen!!! I don't usually perform elaborate rituals, and since I don't get to celebrate the holy days outdoors in a natural setting, my altar has more than one purpose. Most importantly, it is my sacred space and it is very personal. This is where I meditate, celebrate the changing Seasons, where I tune into the changing Lunar energies, and connect with my Guides, Ancestors & Deities. It is also my shrine (actually, I have more than one).
