shaking its head that way isnt fun for the bird, for you perhaps, but not the bird, though the bird doesnt seem to mind, if it isnt slightly irritated by it. Its dangerous for a bird to feel safe when something is grabbing its head for many reasons.
Also when you roll them onto their backs, they generally want to fiddle with something using their feet, and grab something with their beaks, which is something two paired birds might do if they are both in the mood. find it a fluro hard to grab toy
haha that is SOOOO cute! mine refuse to be flipped upside down lol! theyre currently breeding so i don't get much playtime with them anymore :( most i get is a kiss at bedtime! :)
Did you buy this bird at a store for how much? or this you caught this one off as a wild and trained it as a baby? There are lots of this breed in the wild
@MsChorong This one I got from a breeder. I saw a few in the pet stores but they weren't treated well.
But I also saved one last christmas - it fell out of the nest and could hardly eat by itself. I picked it up and now he is living at my friends place all happy and healthy.
I have 3 loorikeets, and currently we are building so all of us are living in a big shed....which is more like a huge birdcage, as the lori's rule the place, my husband has but up swings and ropes all over the shed so it is one big birdcage that we live in, so important for the little cuties to play and have stimulation, its so good to see them out of the cage xxx
I am going to be doing a video on what owning a bird is really like. I HATE seeing the video "The Perfect Parrot" that makes it seem like birds are the easiest and cheapest thing to take care of. The fact that even little parakeets cost hundreds is not stressed so people get them and end up giving them away to friends or shelters... I also don't think people realize how intelligent these birds are. They do know when you don't let them out or clean their cage.
@randomstuffinmylife Hi there, I'm glad you said that because just recently I've become quite interested in parrots, as well as admiring their beauty they both facinate and scare me (macaws and greys in particular) owned 3 budgies before nothing bigger and like you say I c all these vids of ppl playing with their huge parrots like their dogs but does that mean they never get bitten? I realise they can be so smart and fun to have but
@randomstuffinmylife also understand that's DEFINATLEY all there is to keeping one, and how do people willingly put up to committing their life to something so demanding that can potentially maim you. I wish I could borrow one or something just to be around one and see what it's like through the life stages. I def know a macaw and prob grey isn't for me tho perhaps a lori or keet or parrotlet (?) keep me informed on when your video is up,I'd be very interested to see it
One thing you could do is find a pet store or shelter that you can interact with the birds. If it is your first bird, those are wise choices. Other great choices would be a cockatiel or a conure. The conure is a bit bigger and more expensive. You could also see if there is any foster programs for birds around you. Parakees/budgies are one of the most intelligent and can learn to talk when you only have one.
So i ran out of space. It should basically come down to how much you are willing to spend (money and time) and noise level you can handle. Birds will typically let you know if they don't like what you are doing by biting, They don't bite for no reason though. In my experience, if you are bitten, you typically deserve it. Agressive birds usually are kept in cages too much or aren't cared for properly. Buying more than one bird can also keep your bird happier.
Unreal! I have one of these chaps and he sounds the same, plays the same ... loves being wrestled while he's on his back. Argues with me ... jibbers away in pirate talk just like your little guy. My Ozzy comes with me all around the garden. I could not do that if there was a risk he would take off and so clipped wings are for his safety. Being hand raised he'd likely perish ... being clipped means he can be out of his cage and free to play.
then you are a piece of shit buddy lol, can I clip your legs? see how you get around... I hope you know you can teach them to fly and to not (possibly) take off, there are always risks for everything... it is not for "his safety" you fucking dumbass, its because you don't want to take the time to teach him stuff... you fucking piece of shit, your cruel as hell... its not for his safety you fucking faggot... they know how to fly how can it be for there safety...
he does not want you to clip his wings, don't you understand that? you faggot, if you don't want a bird to fly.. give it to someone else who does.. seriously your not a real bird owner in anyway. I hope you know that.
please get perfesional help to cut his wings better its too short you are gonna cut his blood feather n he will bleed to death.please dont cut them yourself.its not expensive.
Not only do you do the unthinkable by cutting his wings but you cut them horribly short. If he is that friendly then why cut his wings at all? You deprive him of being able to do the thing that they do best, to fly.
@arianefr78 His wings look fine to me....I've seen worse. If he didn't like it he would be biting him hard. I know...i own two. Lorikeets "WILL" let you know if they don't like what you are doing.
I have a green naped lory named Nikki and she is a wonderful pet. I love her to pieces. Your lory is a beauty and I can see he/she is very tame. My bird is too! They are great pets!
@kostasandrew The wing pinions are most likely clipped. This is a common thing for domestic birds so they don't accidentally fly away. Once domesticated, Lories don't cope too well in the wild.
@kostasandrew -- The reason most captive birds have their wings clipped is for safety; Birds cannot see windows and can get hurt flying into them, among other household items, eg; fans, poisonous plants [to them] and even toilets. D:
