  • someone could send me the score?

    thank you very much

  • im loving it, nice one!

  • AWEOSME !!

  • Very informative! Even for a clueless beginner like me! I'm picking up the basics and have a friend of my brother helping me out with the bits i dont get (which is everything past the octs!!) suprisingly from playing the cheesy songs like jungle bells, Just attempting this song badly (with no lessons might i add!) I'm learning how to finger correctly so thats for this x

  • @tybites4 its always nice to be able to finger correctly!!

thanks for this i picked it up really quickly and have amused family and friends with it already!

  • Ha ha, of course it's not easy for a beginner. It's not a beginner song. It's gonna take time to get to this level so just play the damn piano and some day you'll be able to play this. The sooner you start and the more you practice the sooner you'll be play this.

  • For everyone who's saying "This is too difficult for a beginner" take a look at the sheet music. IT'S NOT WRITTEN FOR A BEGINNER!!!! Stop trying to cheat your way through by finding out how to play it on youtube. Get lessons and practice like everyone else. This is great help if you can read music, but need some help with the beat. Again, don't be so damn lazy!!!!!!! this was very well done, and fits its purpose.

  • u made a slight mistake there at 4:24 u wudnt mind makin the video again please...

  • great..very helpful- even if its too diffucult for a beginner..

  • here are some tips for anyone who wants to learn to play this:

download the midi file from the net - it's available from many places. just type in 'i don't like mondays midi' in google.

download a program called 'Midi Sheet Music' - again, you can google it.

this program converts the midi to sheet music and you can remove all the tracks apart from the piano, print off the notes, slow down the tune and see the notes on a screen keyboard.

give it a shot - it's working a treat for me.

  • @chezpaul1973 thats really helpfull. ive done this on other songs.<3

  • hey do you have notes for this?

  • wow nice mate :)

rarely see a flawless tutorial :P

  • sorry to correct you, but in the 2nd inversion it is a Ebsus4 and then a EbMinor:).

    But nice video, and thanks..

  • Cheers for this. superb piece of work, much appreciated. :-))

  • your good at this amazing vid

  • Finally got it right thank's to you "Thank you"

  • hey do you have notes for this? transcribed for piano just like you played it ? :)

I was looking on Your site but seems it isn't there. :(

  • Excelent!!! Thanks for posting this!!!

  • I play a lot of piano, lots of by ear lets say, this is a good job. I play this song too, its tough, don't let anyone beat you up. Great one.

  • This helped me so much...I thank you for the upload

Now to go practise it like...1000000000000000000000 times :P

  • what is he doing at 0:24

  • I dont like Monday's either but I love this song! Nice one.. thanks!

  • Where do you have the sheets from?

  • this is actually a fun song, you have made it gloomy as the topic itself.

  • Thanks so much!

  • Nicely done. I've been playing this for a long time, but always in C, just because it seemed easier. Thanks for posting it in the correct key.

  • rubbish

  • not bad if you've memorized the lyrics

  • I consder this an excellent tutorial, thanks!!, if any one is interested in a little slower I tried one check it out>

    MM

  • I'm a beginner and I got this down to the chorus. You'll always be a beginner if you're not willing to work and practice a LOT.

And anyone who says "slow it down" ... you do know there's a pause button right? At first I'd pause it every three notes, then six, then twelve. Figure it out ppl

  • the guy showed us how to play it - using our hands xD especially from 1:37

  • Now cause you are smart and I am stupid, could you make another video where you can play this but sloooowly : )

  • my syntheziser isn't long enough to get the right notes at once, how shitty is that D:

  • This is nothing like Nina Simone's version of Gin House Blues

  • more of you just playing it slow than a tutorial

  • With the Chords and pause/rewind feature, if you can't get this, you should just give up now trying to learn anything from Youtube -- go seek professional help.

  • a tutorial is an explanation/ instructions which this isn't. If you want to see a real piano tutorial look at any of pianojohn113's videos

  • Isn't the opening remarkably similar to Nina Simone's version of Gin House Blues?

  • This is my brother's account but i think that this tutorial was really good. The chords on the screen made things easier. great work 5*

  • can someone tell me what notes are being played by the left hand at :23 - :29?

  • @Jusala12 That's two B-bassnotes with your left hand, and the right hand: A-Cis-E (A-chord), then A-Cis-Gis (Amaj7-chord), then A-Cis-Fis (A6-chord), I hope that helps!

  • @Jusala12 B octaves

  • is it really necessary to go so fast? I can't follow it no matter how many times I watch it and pause it and try to see what key goes when! Please help me!

  • search the chords on the internet. You can take your time then

  • I used to play by ear when I was a kid and now I've picked up a piano several decades later. This video is amazingly helpful and fun! THANK YOU!

    Don't listen to the complainers.

  • The song is in B major, I think, but I learned it in C. It's easier.

  • Excuse me for correcting you, because the song is definitely in B major. Notice the beginning chord of the chorus and also the end of the song! The D# is actually a D#m, wich is the third on the B major-scale. So the chords used in this song are: the root B, the third D#m, the forth E major, the fifth F# major. And there are some slashchords like E/G# and D#/A# and of course some variations like D#sus4 and F#sus2.

  • Just a litte thing: I thought this song is in B major? So it isn't e.g. Eb -> It's D# and so on

  • your very very tallened but we can't really see what notes your playing that well.

did you learn by ear or sheet music?

  • it's all well and good, etc. I know how to play the piano but i don't know the names of the chords off the top of my head, i usually get these youtube "how to play"s and watch them play but the camera angle isn't right for it, and it doesn't help too much. No offence to you, you're a great player and this does help as i can play most of the intro now but just some advice if you do another one

  • yeah, that's true.. and anyway.. i thank you a lot for been soo patient to put some notes at the begining ...but if you're too lazy to put all the notes.. just don't do it, or do not entitle it "how to play.." because that isn't a lesson.. it's a demonstration..

  • This is a great tutorial, if you have a long musical education behind you, luckily I have so this helped me out alot^^ But others who just wanna learn a graet song on a grat instrument wont get this... at all... and that kinda goes against what a lesson is for doesn't it?

  • 最高です!

    長年あきらめていた、ピアノソロに挑戦できそうです。

    ありがとうございました。

    Thank you very much!

  • I understood the first bit, that was perfect but then within 30 seconds it kinda made my head hurt lol. But I think I can work it out so thanks a lot dude :)

  • Great now I know that YOU know how to play it- well done. This helps me how?

  • Ermm, this is quite hard to understand because you cannot see the notes because your fingers are too ' BIG ' but they are not... dont take it the wrong way.. x but thanks alot :D x

  • goshdarnit! your mixing of sharps and flats is confusing me! good tuoral though =] thanks

  • yeah i am a beginner and it was hard for me to know what you are doing. i would really love to learn this song..

  • TO CONFUSING!

  • Then you need to get better at piano!!!

  • Hey irbaileyus, thought i'd just pop by to say............. F@CK YOU!!! I admire godd piano players but snobby dicks like you reallyannoy me. The best piano players help and encourage beginners like me!!!

  • oh snap. XD you rule.

  • yep its not that accurate for a tutorial but it was really useful for me or people who use the ear to play :D good job anyway \m/

  • great but to be fair you are not going into great detail. you need to stop and explain sections.

  • gudd

but 2 hard to see the chords nd urs dnt make sense.

    Lol

  • mringer66: It's not a bad video for the more advanced pianist. At my stage in learning the piano this tutorial is not that useful although I did pick up some useful info. I recognize the intended audience is the more advanced player.

  • or i prefer where they highlight the keys. Its not very clear to be fair, please do a highlighted key version please

  • i wish you could have writtent he notes a little clearer

  • man why does everyone in us uk or any other country reads notes with letters i've always learned it with do re mi it's so confusing

  • I've learned do-re-mi-style ;p

can you read it, or should I 'translate' it? :P

  • this song is sick

  • youre sick:)

  • yeah

  • YEAH TOOO

  • I think this video is great! And yes, it's difficult for a beginner, but then again, this song is not for beginners. It's way to much, but for me as a pianoplayer I managed to see what this guy is playing, but even for me it took a while to figure out what exáctly he is playing. For example the text is not very accurate. Anyway, thanks to this video I can play the whole song now, but I advise beginners to start with an easier song.

  • if u don get he notes shown in the text just copp what keys he presses kk

  • Jetzt mal was auf Deutsch (Now something in German):

Ich finds saumäßig hilfreich !!! (This video is very helpful !!! )

  • This really isn't the least bit helpful to a beginner.

  • because its not a beginner song?

  • @TravelerKM okay it may not be helpful to beginners but its great to get the intricates of the song correct thankyou for the tutorial mate

  • @TravelerKM The fact it's described in chords is even harder, that stuff is self taught!!!! Sheet music or plainly saying the notes is easier by far!!! Beginners, seriouslylearn sheet music if you want a good success at playing :)

  • @TravelerKM Who said it was for beginners? If you are a beginner, get the official sheet music, which is a dumbed-down version, very easy to play.

  • @TravelerKM

unlike you, we're not all beginners. it's perfect for me, an intermediate, if you want.

  • @emarc37 well that was 2 years ago. so he/she is probably pretty good right now

  • @TravelerKM this isnt the least bit a beginner song...

  • @TravelerKM indeed it is!

  • @TravelerKM I could follow it very well :) there is a pause button you know.

  • It's really good. I like this song! Could you send me the scene, please, because there is something what I can't see on the video... I would like to learn it, it's a great song. Please help me!

  • What notes are on the right hand at 0:37 ????

  • It´s a Gb-chord (Gb-Bb-Db), followed by an E-chord (E-Ab-B), does that answer your question?

  • THANKS !!!

  • THanks very much Nesh.

  • Does anyone know the notes for the little Appregio on 1:36?

I just cannot catch those notes.. :S

  • e major ?

  • Those are all E chords, just in different inversions, the first is E-G#-B, then B-E-G#, then G#-B-E, hopefully that helps, happy playing!

  • does anybody have a link to the sheet music or just the notes to this song?x

  • Awesome tut! Just what I was looking for. People who don't get this probably have no prior music experience, or can't play by ear well.

  • nice dude except u should re-title it this isnt exactly a tut, but u play good, mayb sum time cood u like make a tut and make a lil more clear

  • thanks, this is really useful since I couldn't find the sheet music anywhere! :)

  • hahahaha

  • i don't ... care! make a tutorial yourself.

  • they're playing it slower to show people how to play idiot

  • Im not the "idiot" who's trying to learn how to play the piano on youtube...it should be taught properly with sheet music and at the correct tempo you dope!!!!

  • there are people who can't afford them

    :p

  • thats pathetic its mostly taught in schools and anyway people who cant afford lessons i presume would never hav been able to read music and therfore wouldnt know just by looking at it what Ab(flat) and Bb(flat) ment and where to find them on the piano!

  • that's why they show it you're right they won't be able to read music that is why they don't have music

  • ya i know im right.. but that doesnt explain how would someone who has never read music know what Ab is!

  • video tuts are sometimes better than sheet music because they give a visual representation of how something should be played. I.e. if you are a novice you can easily see where you went wrong. You can also get a picture with the key notes on it. That's how I learn to play on the rare occasions I do.

  • I knew all the keys on the piano before I could read sheet music. Just because I didn't know where C was on the stave doesn't mean I couldn't look at a piano and see that it's "The white note to the left of the 2 black notes". Some great musicians never learned to read music. They learned to improvise by hearing what sounds good. I still suck at reading sheet music, so learn to play pieces by ear, or by watching others. It's not impossible. In fact, it's fairly common.

  • I have to agree with everyone here, you obviously know how to play it well, people are looking for a note by note type of thing. Begining is great until the A/B then going from A7 to A6, people just want to know where to put their hands lol, some dont know what that means

  • maybe you should play mary had a little lamb until u understand what that means then try slightly harder songs

  • Use the same footage, just redo the explanation please? For all the 82 thousand who watched this?

  • someone had to say it?

  • hey man...can you remake it so it can be more clear...I can't understand what you play sometimes...it's too fast for tutorial. please...I really want to learn how to play this song...

  • MAn youre playin's Beautiful...n you SEE WE WANNA PlaY TOO!! SO PLEASEEEE MAKE A TUTORIAL!!!!....

    Ty

  • Man you sure play great but this is a lousy tutorial(according to me) im not the best piano player in the world so i may not know all the chords and shit but man i would like to know how i play this:S

  • it sounds great ♥

  • You really need to make sure you are clear on your minor or major chords because that could throw someone off, on the chorus you missed the Ebminor and the Abminor

  • On the verse, the second chord is Ebminor

    , not major

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial. I've always wanted to learn how to play this song. Your tut is very helpful. Especially that I have never played the piano and I'm beginner (but I can read music, I've been playing the flute for almost 20 years)... Anyway! You did it great. Thank you!!! :)

  • hi i'm a boy who is trying to impress my family on the keyboard because they really dont like me very much but unfortuatly i still can't play it... nevermind maby one day i'll get it. Well done you play brilliantly. Thank You.

  • Some PEople just don't get it. You dont need to play this song accurately, I doubt the pianist from the Boomtown Rats ever plays this song the same way twice anyway. This turotial tells you all you need to know, its great! Just the chords, and a couple bits where theres a necessary riff or something. Be creative people!

  • Hi it's a great tuturial, no need for spoken comments as fas as I'm concerned. One remark. In the last chorus Bob sings "Tell me why I don't like, I don't like, I don't like mondays" in the middle of it. The chords are the same as for the verse. I think you accidentally left it out. Thank you very much for the rest. Can't wait to scare my boss with it at our next employee meeting ;-).

  • my fav song!!1

  • dude you need to do another video of this because i would really like to play this song but you need to go over it and tell us the keys and stuff

  • ♥

  • i don't understand one letter of the ones you typed, but i was able to copy it 'till 0:40 by ear but could you please tell me how to get further cuz i can't get any further

  • Dude well played, BUT nobody can Interpret this. You can't make the title "How to" as all you are doing is playing it. You actually need to show the keys individually. And slower.

  • don't even play, just do random stuff. quite difficult but getting there.

  • i did this song on improvising. sounds almost better than the original when you do that

  • mabey you should go through it step by step or stage by stage like most other piano tutorials

  • I play the piano 3 years, but That's to hard for me:(

  • Well some people just don't have natural talent. Don't worry if you stick with it and work hard I'm sure you will be great.

  • Your right, I never was good at the PLAYING part but i could listen to something and play it eventually.

  • I can't read music but I can eventually learn to play something on an instrument by ear. Not really very professional but I've not yet found the drive to learn an instrument properly. If I could it would be either piano, violin, drums or guitar. Preferably all of them but I'd need more than one life to be great at them all.

Anyway the "natural talent" speech wasn't sarcasm aimed your way, I worded it wrong I think I meant in the sense of those weird child prodigies I'm somewhat jealous of.

  • Excellent. Well done you.

  • i really don't understand what ur telling me to do :/.....i suck =[

  • Thanks. I am very lazy when it comes to piano/keyboards... I practice once in a blue moon... I learned this in a couple of hours thanks to your video!! ;)

  • I'm a real beginner (learning from books and still on very basic tunes and riffs) but this is amazing as I've learnt the intro in less than a week and was so excited that I recorded it on my mobile phone to show my mates. Am slowly making my way through the rest of it. Thanks so much - you've made a blonde girl very happy. :)

  • i tried....but failed, badly.

i think i need a muucchhhh simpler tutorial...or to just giv up. :/

  • wow, this really is fantastic, thank you so much

I've been working on this and I had most of the basics, but thanks for showing me some of the nuances in the sus chords and the descending stacks in the opening.

  • i am just starting out somebody plz tell me what an a7 and a6 is! btw nice playing!

  • On the scale you wish to play in this case take A the A7th is the 7th note up the scale of A here would be G so play shord of A and just add the G below it hope this helps, same applies for 6th hope this is clear

  • we had to play a version on the marimba...(2 mallets in one hand...)

  • thank you sooo much!

  • This video is soooooooo good and its helping me learn it loads!!! thank uuu :D

  • i keep forgetting ive actually seen this but still FANTASTIC :)

  • what do you play at 0:34?????????!!!!?!?!?!?

  • you have a point ... i'll see if i can see lol

two low E's and she plays with the right hand E Ab And B then just the E major with a top E

ok :D i didnt know that either :P but now i do xD

  • thanks man

  • It's an E-chord with two E-notes (E-Ab-B-E).

  • i need to learn those chords. any websites?

  • this is a brill tutorial ive always wanted to play this since i heard it in my last concert at school. i was wondering wether you could explain to me how u form the difficult chords you use in your vid like "sus 4" and stuff like that. ive always heard these chords mentioned by my piano teacher and by peeps at schl and i just smile and nod pretending that i know what there talking about. i would really appreciate it if youd get back to me on this. So i don't get humiliated at school again!! :)

  • noice! I play the guitar myself, but recently got a piano, i'm gonna be practicing this!

  • WAUW, thanks!

  • Thanks for taking the time to show this to us. This is great.

    Cheers

  • thanks. this is just what i need. as a beginner when it comes to music reading the sheet music hardly helps me. to see it played has helped me greatly

  • very good & thanks for the effort, I appreciate

  • it is gr8 , i would have loved it to be slow, but thats just me :D great job i just think i am tired.. i'll play it tomorrow, favourite and subscribed

  • could you make a new "how to play" in whitch everybody can see better, what you're doing with your fingers. probably you explain something?!

  • What a clever song - i never realised how difficult it was. Did Bob write this with someone??? Mikey xx

  • has anyone ever told you you look like patrick dempsey? good playing wicked tut dude you rock

  • Yea he is patrick dempsey hahah

  • can somebody tell where can I get notes?? :)

  • Thats Heaps Gooddddd.

    Geez.

    Haha.

  • can anyone help me ive got the sheet and i put down the notes but they sound nothing like this everyone says that they understand it so what am i doing erong plzzz help oh buy the way your brilliant

  • i dont understand what it all means

  • this is great !! i still cant play it well but give me time ! thank you

  • kann mir ma einer sagen, wo man die ganzen noten herbekommt!!! wär echt nett von euch!! ok bis denn ma ,ge?! ^^
