@asiancustoms although it was the guqin that was used in kung fu hustle, the guzheng & guqin are in the same family of zithers the only difference is the guzheng has a bridge but the guqin doesn't (easier to shoot air blades out from w/o bridges in my opinion :) )

In fact, Japanese koto learning from China.So their culture looks like similarly.The koto imitating the Tang Dynasty.At that time it was called "Tang zheng”(唐筝）.Their production methods are the same. But later the "Tang zheng”changed Its own manufacturing methods.So in China guzheng evolved into it today's shape.

@akinderreality Yes, but that scale isn't uniquely Japanese. Several types of Japanese music were carbon copied from Tang Dynasty China and Korea (there are many other types that weren't, of course). That minor scale, called "Yin" in Chinese (yin and in, if you can't already see, are obviously the same word), was used in Tang period music. The Yin scale fell out of popularity in China after the Tang Dynasty.
