By cutting this large hole into the side of the case you are distorting the flow of air. This because the air should flow from front to back bottom to top and and the side fans are 9 times out of 10 intakes as well. All he did was cut a huge hole opening up that case for air to move freely in and out as well as dust. Just like when removing the side panel of a well cooled system will cause the temps to go up because the air flow had been altered.
