@LS9lives 2V 4.6 was out long before the LS1, it was around in 96 in the slowest mustang ford released in a very long time since it didnt even share the PI heads the 00-04's recieved..so it wasnt a answer thank god. the 03-04 cobras and mach 1's were more on par. the Mach ones were almost door to door with camaro SS's and the cobras stock and stock were a touch quicker. 03-04cobras 12.6in he quarter roughly and the SS's ran low 13's. both very respectable and same price.

Miss my 00 z/28 so much RIP. I have an 04 mustang GT now, bought it stock, it's now got a K&N CAI, BBK off road xpipe, 40 series Flowmaster mufflers, Nitto NT555's and an SCT custom tune from bama custom tunes, guessing around 280-290 to the wheels and it's only slightly faster than this bone stock z/28, with a good launch i'll hit 60 under 5 seconds(4.8ish something like that) and as much as I love the sound my mustang makes, LS1's just sound so much better.. Thanks for letting me rant lol. :(

@Kaddo114 Don't get me wrong, they both sound fantastic, but in different ways. The LS1 has a smooth kind of growl to it, while a cobra has an i'm gonna rip your face off kind of growl lol. The X-Pipe on my car gives it a really gnarly sound, but at the end of the day my stang's sitting at 280ish rwhp and my camaro had 330rwhp, and would've raped my stang, and it was so much more quiet too lol. But when i'm done with my stang it'll be much faster :)

My uncle is giving me his 1998 camaro z28. 6speed. brand new transmission. less than 5k. all wheel bearing replaced, upper lower ball joints. new waterpump. hoses. full maintanencer records from 2002 when he bought it. oil changed every 3,000 firm! car has 188,000 miles. how good is the motor for? no oil usage, perfect oil psi. he hasnt dogged it. it was his drive to work car.
this is still a good 0-60 time for an 11 year old stock car.especially if u compare it to the new camaros.heck i've even seen 98-02 ls1's beat the new camaros.my 99z28 has 103k miles but still runs very very strong.the ls1 is a hell of a motor

The fail bog into 3rd gear and intermittent double-shift into second is why I need a dyno tune. I'm pretty sure it is a converter lock-up adjustment. I have a 4.6 Liter.
@thesniper1191 Doesn't seem slow to me..... Stock LS1 Camaro with an Automatic. I'm sure it means bone stock since it doesn't even sound like it has an aftermarket exhaust system. The last year they made those was 2002 so that means it is at the very least 9 years old with probably quite a few miles. So a 9 year old automatic LS1 with miles... 0-90 in 11 seconds...

@thesniper1191 That actually seems closer to 6 seconds, maybe even the 5.8 range you think it should have anyways....it doesnt start accelerating to closer to the 1 sec mark and hits it close to the 7 sec mark....And GM automatics dont tend to affect 0-60 too much. The 04-06 GTO's are said to have a .01 quicker time in the automatic than the manual!

With the insurance plan my family has, and with my conditions in my schooling, a 96 Z28 is a fairly inexpensive first car, as far as insurance goes. And I know they changed the engines in the 4th gen Camaro I beleive in 1999, where the car had 305bhp, rather than 275. But the overall performance btwn the two is nearly identical until you get to 80mph or so, then the 99 kicks in.
@thesniper1191 Yeah, you know a good amount for being 15....They changed to the 4th gen/LS1 in 1998. And the performance increase can be seen earlier than 80 mph. A Z28 to Z28, the 98 can get to 60 mph about 1/2 a second quicker than a 96

I just researched camaros for probably HOURS by now, I'ts just great how they are really fast for their time, and even now compared to how cheap they are, making me want one. Do you think the insurance cost between a 98 and a 96 will be much different? I mainly just like the style of the headlights in 96, But the engine is better later.
@thesniper1191 The insurance would not likely be any different on a 96 vs a 98. I'd definitely take a 98 over a 96 though, mostly because of the LS1 engine in the 98. The LT1 in the 96 is good, but not as powerful or as good all around as the LS1. Both cars are solid and you are right that they were fast for their time. The LS1 can still hold its own, but they would need a few upgrades to hang with todays Mustangs, Camaros, Impreza's, 370Z's, etc
@Punisher7121 Not toooo much they dont. I run a LT1 Z28 just with CAI/Catback/Tune and give them a hell of a run (The Camaro anyways LOL). 370 and GT still way gone). With 1.6 RR and LT headers they should still see me smiling in the right window. Some 02 LS1 (stock) can hit the same numbers as the 2011 GT stang. Theres a Vid of a 02 LS1 with just headers beating a 11 GT stang. Only by 1/2 car length but it loses by a full length or 2 out of the hole and catches up at the end.

Z28 with an LS1? Must be like a 98 or something right? I know there was a few Z28's with the LS1 but it was only for like one year or so. @getalife04 All 98-02 Camaro's in the Z28 and SS package had ls1's. The 00-02 models had a milder cam and ls6 intake manifold from the z06. the 98-99's had a more aggressive cam but the ls1 intake monifold. Wasn't much of a difference in stock form but made a difference when you started modding. Difference between z28 and SS were not power difference since it is the same motor, its the gears. z28 auto was 2.73, ss auto was a 3.23, all 6 spds be z28 or ss were 3.42's. LS1's are runners!

Im not being a smartass, im being technical because ive owned more cars with this motor than you have, and know what Im talking about. A quad4 H.O. has 150-155 to the wheels stock with a manual so about 140-145 with an auto and 180 crank, so you must have signifigantly modded it to get 185whp. What year is your car? Because theres only a couple specific years that the H.O. even came with an automatic.
I raced a LS1 Firehawk today and im completely Stock (2002 Camaro Z28 A4) and i blew him away, it was a 60 roll and i was up to 110mph and i couldnt even find him
@ModMob Sounds like a driver mod, I own a ls1 too and you should know that the firehawk which has more power than the ws6, is faster than a z/28 and the SS. Not by a ton though, so you got lucky :)

I own a pontiac aswell, even though mine has a 327 chevy block in it, but then again yours has an oldsmobile motor in it, so no different. Either way, mine is fast yours is not.

@MultiRaidman Actually i'm not, there isn't a canadian-owned car. Just American cars that are ASSEMBLED in your country. Don't get 'Made' and 'Assembled' confused. You assemble our cars for us, based on our design and our vehicle parts. That's what I hate about you canadians, you try to claim everything that's not your's. There are only a few Chevy's and Dodge's that are assembled in your country. Chevrolet and Dodge were founded by Americans, and still owned by American's today.

Miss my 00 z/28 so much RIP. I have an 04 mustang GT now, bought it stock, it's now got a K&N CAI, BBK off road xpipe, 40 series Flowmaster mufflers, Nitto NT555's and an SCT custom tune from bama custom tunes, guessing around 280-290 to the wheels and it's only slightly faster than this bone stock z/28, with a good launch i'll hit 60 under 5 seconds(4.8ish something like that) and as much as I love the sound my mustang makes, LS1's just sound so much better.. Thanks for letting me rant lol. :(

@Kaddo114 Don't get me wrong, they both sound fantastic, but in different ways. The LS1 has a smooth kind of growl to it, while a cobra has an i'm gonna rip your face off kind of growl lol. The X-Pipe on my car gives it a really gnarly sound, but at the end of the day my stang's sitting at 280ish rwhp and my camaro had 330rwhp, and would've raped my stang, and it was so much more quiet too lol. But when i'm done with my stang it'll be much faster :)

@admiraljimmy Stick with the ls1!!! I broke a mustang in 1 day lol. It had 20k miles on it and couldn't take a day and a half's worth of beating.... An '06. My cousin's 00 z28 lasted 2 weeks with me and kept going until he sold it.

My uncle is giving me his 1998 camaro z28. 6speed. brand new transmission. less than 5k. all wheel bearing replaced, upper lower ball joints. new waterpump. hoses. full maintanencer records from 2002 when he bought it. oil changed every 3,000 firm! car has 188,000 miles. how good is the motor for? no oil usage, perfect oil psi. he hasnt dogged it. it was his drive to work car.

Not too shabby. I should be able to muster some mid 13s once I get some sticky tires and my tune revised. I hope you enjoy the video response. The fail bog into 3rd gear and intermittent double-shift into second is why I need a dyno tune. I'm pretty sure it is a converter lock-up adjustment. I have a 4.6 Liter.

@thesniper1191 Doesn't seem slow to me..... Stock LS1 Camaro with an Automatic. I'm sure it means bone stock since it doesn't even sound like it has an aftermarket exhaust system. The last year they made those was 2002 so that means it is at the very least 9 years old with probably quite a few miles. So a 9 year old automatic LS1 with miles... 0-90 in 11 seconds...

@urbz28 I never said i thought it was slow, It is very fast. I just said it seems slower than it should be, usually I see 0-60 in around 5.8 seconds or so, and this was nearly 7. but it probably was just because it was an Automatic I really don't know.

@thesniper1191 That actually seems closer to 6 seconds, maybe even the 5.8 range you think it should have anyways....it doesnt start accelerating to closer to the 1 sec mark and hits it close to the 7 sec mark....And GM automatics dont tend to affect 0-60 too much. The 04-06 GTO's are said to have a .01 quicker time in the automatic than the manual!

@Punisher7121 Oh. Well, I'm just 15 and am completely unexperienced, you could just say I was making estimations. With the insurance plan my family has, and with my conditions in my schooling, a 96 Z28 is a fairly inexpensive first car, as far as insurance goes. And I know they changed the engines in the 4th gen Camaro I beleive in 1999, where the car had 305bhp, rather than 275. But the overall performance btwn the two is nearly identical until you get to 80mph or so, then the 99 kicks in.

@thesniper1191 Yeah, you know a good amount for being 15....They changed to the 4th gen/LS1 in 1998. And the performance increase can be seen earlier than 80 mph. A Z28 to Z28, the 98 can get to 60 mph about 1/2 a second quicker than a 96

I just researched camaros for probably HOURS by now, I'ts just great how they are really fast for their time, and even now compared to how cheap they are, making me want one. Do you think the insurance cost between a 98 and a 96 will be much different? I mainly just like the style of the headlights in 96, But the engine is better later.

@thesniper1191 The insurance would not likely be any different on a 96 vs a 98. I'd definitely take a 98 over a 96 though, mostly because of the LS1 engine in the 98. The LT1 in the 96 is good, but not as powerful or as good all around as the LS1. Both cars are solid and you are right that they were fast for their time. The LS1 can still hold its own, but they would need a few upgrades to hang with todays Mustangs, Camaros, Impreza's, 370Z's, etc

@Punisher7121 Not toooo much they dont. I run a LT1 Z28 just with CAI/Catback/Tune and give them a hell of a run (The Camaro anyways LOL). 370 and GT still way gone). With 1.6 RR and LT headers they should still see me smiling in the right window. Some 02 LS1 (stock) can hit the same numbers as the 2011 GT stang. Theres a Vid of a 02 LS1 with just headers beating a 11 GT stang. Only by 1/2 car length but it loses by a full length or 2 out of the hole and catches up at the end.

@1roiboi Oil pressure is determined mainly by the oil pump. The oil pump is spun by the engine. When the engine accelerates, so does the oil pump. Therefore, higher oil pressure :)

@YFNPAP3R3 The 3.8 has 200HP and 225 lb. ft. Good for 0-60 in 7 to 8 seconds, a 1/4 mile time of 15 seconds. Top speed with governor removed is 137MPH. Stock these cars are not too fast, but not too bad either. They have nearly unlimited potential when modified. Many people supercharge or turbocharge the 3.8, sending them up to as much as 800HP in some cases.

Those LS1 motors are a bitch to run with lol, they give my WRX some shit for sure lol. Granted I run in the 10's so it's not often but some of them still surprise me lol.

@getalife04 All 98-02 Camaro's in the Z28 and SS package had ls1's. The 00-02 models had a milder cam and ls6 intake manifold from the z06. the 98-99's had a more aggressive cam but the ls1 intake monifold. Wasn't much of a difference in stock form but made a difference when you started modding. Difference between z28 and SS were not power difference since it is the same motor, its the gears. z28 auto was 2.73, ss auto was a 3.23, all 6 spds be z28 or ss were 3.42's. LS1's are runners!

Im not being a smartass, im being technical because ive owned more cars with this motor than you have, and know what Im talking about. A quad4 H.O. has 150-155 to the wheels stock with a manual so about 140-145 with an auto and 180 crank, so you must have signifigantly modded it to get 185whp. What year is your car? Because theres only a couple specific years that the H.O. even came with an automatic.

factory pontiac grand am ho quad four auto,did the damn thing and i know would run 140 wide out,it maybe a second to a sec and half of the ls1 5 speed but i said almost and any full body ls1 would not out run it by more than 1 lenght,except up the hill thats when the power to weight made the difference to 125 when i let off a half car up to let him pass on a blind hill,dont tell me shit pontiacs know the tune and those cars are quick off the line

@4godaddygo Actually power to weight doesnt take over going up hill, its torque....something a quad4 doesnt have. Ls1's are 6 spds if manual btw. Quad 4 manuals cant hit 140 stock, automatics sure wont either. You had better have some serious coin in that car to come anywhere near what you are claiming your car does. I own a pontiac aswell, even though mine has a 327 chevy block in it, but then again yours has an oldsmobile motor in it, so no different. Either way, mine is fast yours is not.
